The guy on the inside was a lap down. I don't agree with the retaliation tho.

  • @Churbo3

Jon - that is one of the most egregious intentional wrecking I’ve ever seen. This is not a “dispute.” This is unacceptable. Period. I’d ban that driver immediately and permanently. There’s no place in iracing for that. The pathetic thing is the incident coming through final corner was just hard racing. Accidents happen…so for that, it’s even more egregious he felt compelled to retaliate. IMO, ban this guy!

  • @mainirsl3756

Easy now....title was given as a way to be forgiving and honest of all of us who have felt the 'red mist' and frustration of racing for position -- to be 'taken out' by a 'lapper'. 🙂 I know, it's bad. However, we've all been frustrated by a car which is a lap down getting in our way...as was the case here (first part of the vid.). I agree and have felt that frustration... The 'lapped' car got outta shape through the chicane and although he didn't hit the car racing for position....caused that driver to take evasive action (out wide, into a bit of grass) and lose track position to the car he was racing with...but; that racer also then came back on track and 'pinched' the lap-down car while coming onto a very, very fast corner....causing the initial contact and crash (for only the car racing for position which initiated contact). The 'egregious' and blatantly *wrong* behavior is...waiting on pit road after a fast repair to slowly and deliberately blend onto the racing line and turn into the path of another [read: ANY other] driver....causing the crash which took both out of the race [for all intents and purposes]. As mentioned in the description above, if I see the 'intentional wrecking' behavior from the offending driver again, they *will* be banned. The reason I have not banned them yet is....we've all been there fighting and frustrated and he's a pretty good racer (forgiveness once). If it happens again; make no mistake he will be gone! This situation is unlike many we have encountered...where someone we've never seen in our server before...intentionally wrecks someone. Meaning, both drivers are fairly consistent and clean, so we can allow some forgiveness on this instance due to heat-of-the-moment poor decision-making. Lastly, I hope I have clarified and encouraged good, clean racing while acknowledging drivers' historic behavior..... I welcome criticism, comments, flaming, disagreement, etc. 🙂

Jon - Can you please add an instruction at the start of the race that the pole sitter MUST MAINTAIN PACE CAR SPEED? In this race and the last race at RATL, the same pole sitter slowed excessively (10-20 MPH below pace car speed) prior to the green light to 'trap' the P2 sitter -- it happened to you at VIR and me at RATL. It is unsportsmanlike and causes an unnecessary accordion effect back in the grid. In many leagues I run, that is an offense deserving of a penalty...jussayin.

Here's a video showing how much the pole sitter deliberately slowed before green -- listen to his engine redline as he downshifts to trap you... kzread.info/dash/bejne/oXl3pJR9lZa5haQ.html

Holy crap! I had no idea this was a thing! Thanks for bringing this to my attention; I will *absolutely* be mentioning this in future races. I must have heard his hard downshift / revs skyrocket and thought he was 'going' ... which made me go. Seriously, thanks for pointing all this out.

Road America SVRA -- great events -- usually in May and September, but this year we're going to be there July 13 -- 16th. In my opinion, Road America is the best place to watch a race!!! And I've been to Watkins Glen, Sebring, Daytona (road & oval events), COTA (Nov, 2012 F1), Brainerd, Eagle's Canyon, etc... Road America is very beautiful, rolling hills, great camping...and the bonus of Vintage Events is....not that many people, so you don't feel crowded (RE: camping and spectating), and you can walk through the pits and talk to everyone (drivers, owners, etc.). If you're going to be there, look for the 106 lbs. German Sheppard [probably barking (LOUDLY) at the wind...] and I'll be nearby. ;-)
