I've known a few sporting heros who've let themself go as they got older but they always have some residual strength and none were too pleased about it as ambassadors for their sport. What this guy is showing is that kung fu gives you a state of fitness where you probably can't walk up the stairs without stopping.

4:50 this is one thing they all get wrong "the elbow is closer so it will arrive first" the elbow, can't go in a straight line, because your upper arm rotates from your shoulder, that's all your arms do is rotate, if your elbow is straight, any angle you rotate your upper arm will bring your wrist and elbow in line at the same time, if you flex your bicep at the same time as you rotate your arm up, your wrist will get to shoulder level before your elbow, turn your arm inward and do the same combination your wrist will get to in front of you before your elbow.

my first style was goju ryu karate i liked it but then i took wing chun in my 20s i loved it was way better then canadian goju ryu not to say its not good but i find even iogkf and goju kai not all schools but most are geared towards sport so they use a lot of sporting techniques for self defense there too bouncy also too rigid and robotic too much go kime hard not enough ju kime i also think most western teachers dont understand ju kime also to always have too root deeply on each movement is bad it slows you down i apperciate what i learned but i dont think most people are training it how miyagi did damn wkf i went back to a goju kai school that clamied self defense was there focuses but it defintely is not not that they dont have any i know in sparring there like oh you hit him three times and give him a good kick but that wont score it makes me cringe i would train with my old sifu but hes in retirement mode sadly so when i go he rarely teaches im gonna try wong sheung leung wing chun see how that turns out i miss wing chun

You can see clearly how much fat staunchy is he. And hence he did not have amazing speed as like Bruce Lee and Donnie yen. In order to get amazing speed you needed to be lean. But yet he learned many fighting techniques.

The American interviewer should have done some research before attempting this interview. Wong Sifu was an outstanding representative of Ip’s school. He was one of only a handful who has been recognised as passing the effectiveness of this system on the the next generations of Wing Chun. I could only watch the first few minutes until I could sense his frustration with the American gentleman. Thanks for sharing. It’s still very interesting listening to him articulate.

  • @eddieg3536

@@eddieg3536 my sincere apology. Initially I only listened to the first part of the interview where Wong sifu was asked about challenging Chu Shong Tin. I knew this wasn’t true. They had great admiration for each other in the following decades & jointly accepted challenges from other schools. Thanks again 🙏
