In the world of heavy music you have, among their obvious counterparts in varying degrees... coherence, chordal variety, melody, tightness, mix balance, heaviness, unpredictability, replay value, and hype factor... but you normally don't get all of the above, and from an instrumental, no less. This will be played at my wedding or my funeral or both if I'm lucky. Very fine work.

Mom. I'd say that was the start of a great road trip. Posted a year ago or preformed a year ago? Happy to see they are still out there.

I think it would’ve been kind of cool if they had released butterflies and had butterflies flying around the room while they were playing those harmonized licks. Or maybe bunny rabbits dressed up as baby chicks. That would be really sweet.

About 8 years ago, I think 2016, a friend dragged me along to see the Punch Brothers when they toured Australia. I'm tough to please, as most musicians are. My jaw literally dropped from the first Bar till the last. They are the most amazing acoustic band I have ever seen. This is songwriting perfection, better than any top 10 Spotify list.

4:07 the mandolin and banjo starting in unison, and then gradually increasing in intervals, and finally resolving harmonically on the way down when the bass comes in a couple beats before the downbeat... perfection

We were in Sichuan, China when we first about Covid. We had planned on a 3-year stay for work, but we were scared and left China. We packed for a two- week trip to Vietnam, thinking that everything in China would blow over quickly. Our pack for two weeks turned into a one-month stay in Vietnam, an 8-month stay in Cambodia, and a return to Vietnam because our corporate couldn’t get us back to China. I will always associate this song with unpacking all our belongings that we thought we had to forever leave behind in China AND watching my children go to school for the first time in 2 years.

This song is a profound reminder that one's death can represent more than just loss and uncertainty: it can signal the culmination of a life well lived. I feel this the most as the violin swells at 3:44.

I get a physical pain in my chest when I realize this was 11 years ago. Gabe is gone, and they don't write music like this any more. Punch Brothers reawakened my long dormant interest in music and stoked a raging fire. Now I don't know what to do with it, and I have nothing left to look forward to.

11 years ago.. I found it about 2 years ago and I listen to it all the time and every time it still gives me shivers. This shit is incredible. I came to the Punch Brothers because of their radiohead covers, but fuck if this isn’t radiohead quality on its own. I adore this song.
