Welcome to the NS14 KZread Channel. The NS14 is an Australian designed sailing dinghy, intended for competitive family sailing. It has a simple rig, is light enough to be lifted from a trailer (fully rigged) into the water by 3 persons of average strength, requires only reasonable fitness to sail, and is affordable by the private sailor.

Just been shown your series of racing tip videos. Just started using them in the UK for a Sailability Hansa 303 fleet of novices. The class rules pretty much prevent the use of balance and trim, but all else works well. I like the way you talk to me, not at me, and have it in bite sized chunks.

Can’t believe I can get this kind of coaching for free. Thank you Sir!
Yeeehaaa, sporty lookin boat
Wish we had more videos from Peter... Classic
Well explained and funny too!
Carbon sails, carbon hulls without rotating mast....😢
What appalling sound quality. Great pity, as there was no doubt much of value to hear. But who could?
I could.
Hard to understand..eco sound
Here in the US in 2023. Love the videos mate. I share with my sailors!
yes always my go to racing guide, but it was difficult to keep my First 310 upright in 15kts and the now Bavaria 37 is a buckett lol
The best ever.Bravo.
It's a toy boat
You are wrong and comments below are right- straight line to the mark doesn’t matter as long as you are inside the laylines! The biased (favored) end is most up wind!
Very good, still 😃
Thanks mates! Great description and visual demonstration of operation of the rotating mast. 1:18 really cool to see a bit of the effect of the angle of the mast on the shape (and luffing) of the mainsail. Can see various parts of the sail stalling when the mast is over or undertrimmed. Probably more obvious in stronger wind out on the water, but you picked a windy enough day and location to show some effect on the sail. Question: looks like the rotating mast is a Carbon tube that presumably rotates around the inner round mast on bearings at top and bottom. Is that right? Is the inner mast Aluminum or Carbon? Are the bearings roller bearings? Also is this similar in general to the arrangement on much larger boats with rotating masts?
Cracking VCs
A number of boats are rocking and rolling....
Excellent
I grew up sailing the Pommie National twelve and man do I miss that class since I moved to Oz. The nearest thing to it here is the NS and its a beautiful class. But forgive me if I have one major criticism of the NS, not so much for the skipper but for the crew. The complete lack of a thwart seat. After half an hour crewing in an NS I was thinking, this is just bloody torture. Almost but not quite as bad as a Laser. Nothing puts a crew off coming back to a boat more than crouching, slipping and bracing themselves in the front while the Helmsman has the luxury of standing or sitting at ease. If I ever bought an NS it would have to have a thwart. End of.
barnesy totally ruined this video
Would you guys listen to sailing audio with irrelevant images flashed on your screen? Barnesy is ok right place right time but not to kill half the sailing experience.
Beautifully explained
Thank you.
Fantastic, and brilliantly simple explanations ......I am sure would help many ....
I'm interested to know if the system operates automatically in a tack or gybe, or does the crew have to push the lever across manually?
It has to be pushed through.
Thanks
Fantastic!
Flat, flat, flat.
Great information for begginers.. Thanks a lot.
what calculations can you do?
That piece of crap whiteboard would be a deal breaker for me, but this explanation is so clear I cannot look away.
Excellent.
Lol that’s my dad
Jeeeeesus this is good stuff guys
Brilliant!!!
great instructions. bad pronunciation.
So this NS has no main traveller?
Thanks a million, much obliged Sir.👌
Awesome video!! Thank you!!
Maybe not enough praise for your very willing crew. Crews are far harder to find than new boats.
U are the best. U make the best videos
Wow your so good
I love sailing it’s my favorite sport and I’m the 2nd best in bahamas
What class you sailing in? I'm from Bermuda!
Add a spinnaker mg14 yeh baby
Rather than the motor boat following which is something many would not have access to then why would it not be a good idea to place a mark on the centreline of the crossmember which will show when your tiller is on the centre . If that is not accurate enough then tape a drinking straw on the crossmember so it just touches the tiller at the be centre of the cross member which would be easy to see whne hiking.
Very nice! We have an anemometer for sailboats with rotating mast www.openwind.de
This is great.
Yes - TAcking! Will do it!
I wish when I was sailing dinghies I had seen Peter V’s training videos - I would have been a better sailor for it.
