  Lyme disease is a tick-borne bacterial infection; if you're out in nature and get bitten by an infected tick, the disease will cause flu-like symptoms and (usually) a distinctive ringed rash that looks like a bullseye. If it's recognized and diagnosed within those first few days/weeks, a normal round of antibiotics will destroy the infection without a problem, and you'll get on with your life. Unfortunately, if it's not treated early, the bacteria will go everywhere in the body -- bones, joints, brain, organs, eyes, wreaking slow havoc on everything. Ren went undiagnosed/misdiagnosed for eight years, and was prescribed medicines which actively made some things worse. He now suffers from bone and joint pain, muscle twitches, and brain damage that has caused brain fog and other neurological symptoms (including a period of stuttering, twitches, psychosis and hallucinations when he was at his sickest). In addition, the untreated infection triggered an auto-immune condition known as MCAS, where Ren's immune system is oversensitized into constant attack mode. Almost all foods (and even things like perfumes, laundry detergent, and the very capsules they package medication in) can cause an allergic reaction, leading to more symptoms such as gut pain, nausea, dizziness, extreme fatigue and brain fog, and more. He has an extremely restricted diet of a few meat items and a few vegetables that he can eat without side effects, and that's what he has been eating for every meal, for years. That's part of why he looks so "ripped" in the videos where you can see his body -- combine a medically necessary extreme paleo diet with the frequent workouts which help with muscle/joint pain and general stamina, and you get a guy who "doesn't look very sick". But songs like this one, "Sick Boi", "Seven Sins", "Hold On", "Everybody Drops", "Depression", "Insomnia" and more touch on what his experience has been. Once he was finally diagnosed, the Lyme infection itself was wiped out, and the stem cell treatments Ren was gifted by a Los Angeles doctor helped to reset his body so that his most severe pain and fatigue was reduced, and he was able to start busking and recording music more frequently, but he still dealt with lingering symptoms of the damage Lyme had caused, and the MCAS. That's why he decided to visit a specialist in Calgary, Canada; it was originally meant to be a six-month visit, but he ended up staying for 18 months. There's a short on his channel titled "This is what a day looks like for me" which shows some of the treatments he underwent Ren just recently finished treatment and has returned briefly to the UK -- over the summer he'll perform at the Secret Garden Party, and probably a few other festivals -- before moving to the U.S. for the next stage of his career, interspersed with shorter treatment visits to Canada. Hope that provides the context for understanding why his health crops up so often in his lyrics! Quite a lot of it was written while he was still in the thick of it, before he knew what had caused it and whether he would ever get better, and last year's "Sick Boi" album was deliberately centered about this theme. But he also has a wide variety of music that has nothing to do with illness. Some fun ones include "Losing It", "Power", "What You Want", and busking performances with his band The Big Push -- a Renegade favorite for reactions is "I Shot The Sherriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop" (look for red braces in the thumbnail, has the best audio!)   Lyme can have many symptoms horrific pain and fatigue, light sensitivity, digestion issues, swollen joints abd since it too 6 years for Rwn to get diagnosed , he developed MCAS, POTS, and brain and organ damage. These arw autoimmune conditions which mess with hus blood pressurw,pressure, and make him allergic to all but 8 foods. There is no cure yet. Hw dud get lucky with a doctor giving him a free $25,000stem cell transplant. But ir disease his food allergies worse. It us not a cure all Canada treatment was improving his brain function, reducing pain levels and trying to find a homeostasis so autoimmune conditions were slowed down.

  • Stupes 3D printed the 1M glasses frame themself and then added all the sparkly bits • Verdigris of the green colour of oxidized copper • Portmanteau is when you combine two words, so of course Stupes would make a portmanteau of "pork" & "portmanteau" for a smooth pun • This was filmed in entirely in/around Vegas, mostly on-location (and a little bit in a Vegas-based studio) Sadly you cut before the awesome back of Stupe's LED jacket was revealed (and the teaser at the very end). Shame about the camera as I imagine we missed some interesting faces you made at some of the cheeky lyrics they spat. I think you may have missed the window reflection singing the background vocals shortly after the desert scene with the search bar (the compositing of which I don't think was even the biggest challenge Stupes faced in post-production given how many scenes the non-orange Lambo appeared)
