Amati does not have the money on hand, he's dependent on the pyrite market. Lawrence wants to crash the pyrite market. To make Amati even more dependent on the pyrite market he's sold him 500 silver trenni of pyrite on credit. So Lawrence gets 500 coins of Amati's money lowering his assets, making it so that the price has to rise even higher for Amati to come out with 1000 silver trenni at the end He's basically buying time tomorrow to be able to crash the market before Amati can cash out. Plus collecting the cash he needs to buy pyrite from the alchemists However, in order to crash the market, the wheat rumor is not going to be enough. Lawrence needs to buy a bunch of Pyrite before the market opens to be able to sell and start the market moving in his direction. Then the wheat rumor will accelerate the market crash. So if Diana can help Lawrence get the pyrite he needs, he wins. If Lawrence cannot crash the market, he's completely screwed. If Amati can buy out Holo's debt, then Lawrence will no longer be able to stop the marriage contract from being enforced because he will lose legal guardianship over Holo and she's already signed. It all comes down this. If Diana can broker a deal with the alchemists for the pyrite Lawrence needs, he's good. We're off to go find Batos to get another meeting with Diana. Also, remember the weird title of episode 16 'night of the festival and misaligned gear'. Everyone will be let in on the joke that is the second half of that episode title next week when Lawrence talks with Diana next. That's his last play before the market opens tomorrow. Oh, and next week is not the final episode of this arc so prepare for extended pain and suffering lol
That move he used to make them stop is the same move he instantly copied from the Ranker in Season 1. It’s called ‘Reverse Flow Control’ It looks a lot different but this was how it was originally supposed to look so that’s one thing that they fixed from the first season

Viole didn't stop the time. He used Reverse-Flow Control technique, just like he did on Season 1. Viole copied this technique from Lero Ro's fellow Ranker, Quant Blitz. This Shinsu manipulation skill can temporarily immobilize person. The depiction of this technique is a bit different from Season 1, perhaps due to the different studios working on TOG.

Bruhz this episode was fire. Anime reactors always complain when the hero's always come out on top and when anime is predictable. You finally got an episode where one of the main protagonists dies and you have the audacity to say next week will be better. Come on man, you all are hypocrites.
