Very concerned! I was in the Sylmar (1971) and Northridge (1994) quakes so I’m traumatized. Thank for this info. Most importantly, PLEASE prepare.

Earthquakes are inevitable. It’s a matter of when, which no one can predict exactly. But we predict that the kooks will blame global warming on the next one.

I have lived in So. Cal most of my 70 years and for some reason I have never developed a major concern about earth quakes to the extent of hoarding food and learning survival techniques much less just moving away from here. I don't know why I'm not overly concerned, hmmmmm

It's shocking that this would happen to the Mississippi River and not shocking for the Colorado River going down because the Colorado River is a smaller River sucked up by people but still bad.😮

I’ve lived close to the epicenter of two major quakes and yes, they were scary at the time. However I would rather face an earthquake than deal with tornadoes or hurricanes.

It is not IF, but When…earthquakes are a natural phenomenon that damages or destroys things that we have built…with the great increase in population over the last 150 years, impacts on people and infrastructure will be devastating…prepare as much as you can for long term power, phone, and food chain collapse…better be prepared to protect yourself and yours also…LEO won’t be able to help you…

Earthquake faults move all the time. Thats what they do. The only time the media calls an earthquake a BIG ONE is when it happens in a major metropolitan area. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Quakes happen. The las BIG ONE was 1989. Doesn't mean it was the only one or the last one.

Its always in the back of my mind. If you love I California, you can't be ignorant about it. Sounds like there's a bigger chance in Southern California than Northern California? Or they all equally vulnerable?

IF this big one hit, how far east would it affectedly create damage ? For example: if the San Andreas broke at 8.0 or greater in the south end. Would it create damage in Las Vegas or even further east?

  • @FireSilver25

I took a geology class in 2000, in CA, and the teacher explained much of this. The whole west coast is the edge of one big tectonic plate with subduction zones and slip faults. If I recall correctly the San Andreas is a slip fault, which normally is safer than a subduction zone, but there’s a crooked place under the LA basin so the tension gets built up over 300 years and then releases catastrophically. And that basin is basically sedimentary rock inside of a big bowl of harder rock so when it goes off it’s like a big bowl of jello. I used to live in Davis and I vividly recall the World Series quake around 1990. We felt it over a hundred miles away! I moved to New Mexico.

Its too late to reverse the damage we have done. It has taken 150 years of constant industrial pollution to create this disaster. To think we can reverse it before nature decides to wipe us out is laughable. We were given a chance to rule this planet but unfortunately the human being is lazy and prefers comfort. Those 2 traits of the overwhelming majority will ensure the efforts of a hardworking few will be in vain. Unfortunately it is also hypocritical for us (The United States) after 150 years of producing more pollution than the rest of the world to now wag our finger and tell the developing nations they can't do the same. They want to create their own wealth and industry and for us to tell them they can't because we already damaged the planet creating our wealth will only breed resentment. The only way to stave off this global disaster would be for us to share our wealth. Chances of that are about zero though.

Videos like this always make me think about the movie Independence Day from 1996. Where the president has that telepathic moment with the alien and he comes out of it say "They are like locusts. Moving from planet to planet consuming all of the natural resources." Is that our future? Once we completely trash this planet will we become the locusts?

What about the New Madrid Fault, that would screw up all infrastructure from St Louis all the way down the Mississippi River Valley because the soil around this area is worst then what is around San Fransico, because the sandy soil would act like it was liquefied.

I grew up in Southern California. Left in 1972. There are too many people, cars and concrete to be safe with a large earthquake. I settled in a rural community and live at 700 feet on bedrock. I feel safer there.

I lived 25 years in Mexico City that is famous for the wreak havoc after a quake. I witnessed at least 3 over 7 richter. Same as many of you, I watched the destruction of the Indonesia/ Thai 2004, and the 1900s LA and Bay Area events. So, the probability of experiencing a major one is very remote. I am sure that the builders in the region carry out thorough risk of exposure to potential earthquakes. Banks also make thorough research of the issue. (I am not sure about the NY high rise builders). Thank you for the documentary, I am a fan of documentaries based on tangible roots.

Matt 24:6-8 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Note that electric vehicles will limit those trying to escape the devastation to a little over 200 miles (assuming they have a full charge, which very few will). There will be no charge available in many if not all affected areas. Just a thought......

Ignorance is bliss! The northern SA is the "old Faithful" of fault-lines. You can see it in the earth. But NorCal people ignore it. SoCal people are oblivious to it and think that Northridge was anywhere close to what the southern SA has in store for them. Hopefully I will be out of CA before it happens. But it IS a ticking time bomb that WILL happen in this current generation.
