  Question. I understand that corrective moves come after a 5 way impulsive move. Let’s say that 5 way move is bullish and the corrective 3 way move is therefore bearish. So How does the market move to a bearish impulsive move? Can it do a bearish 3 way corrective move then move straight into a bearish 5 way impulsive move. How does the larger trend change. Thank you

  Great question. On a large enough time frame, all downside moves will ultimately take a corrective three-wave form, because that is the nature of things - we progress forward and upward. But if you are looking on the smaller time frames - for example, the decline that took place on the Nasdaq off the 2000 high, that initial down leg into the 2002 low was very impulsive in nature. Ultimately, that impulsive down leg proved to be wave A of an ABC pullback that ended in truncated fashion in 2009. So that's the best example I have of a trendy down move - just keep in mind that, at least for the market indexes (which are the best gauges of changes in social mood, which is what we're after with Elliott Wave), all declines will eventually prove corrective, even if it takes 10 years to play out.   It's not always completely obvious, but you do expect wave 1 to take a five-wave form itself, which means you should get a 2nd and 4th wave pullback (on a smaller time frame) within that larger 1st wave advance. Usually, if it's not super obvious in real time, it becomes more obvious as larger patterns complete. I hope that helps!

  5 1/2 years later this SPX elliot wave chart aged well. Even the COVID19 crash only made this a funky abc correction and now we are in another wave 3 (right?).

  Picking the "starting point" of five waves seems to involve subjective pattern seeking, along with just five; why is that the magic number over time? Unexpected world events affect markets w/o predictable time-cycles. Your example of CSCO has a lot of ragged waves that don't seem like reliable patterns when you follow it beyond mid 2019, etc. I see this as something that can work in hindsight but not account for widely differing holding periods among investors.

  Regarding BTC, isnt wave C supposed to be the shortest and most steep correction as you can see in the wave counts of the previous correction too? contrary to yours now? why are you counting the top of wave 5 at may 2021 instead of November? isn't this correction a A B (as today and we don't know the top yet) and C to come?

  Thanks for sharing. The first three questions are always in my mind when I view a video on EW. Thanks for clarifying. So, if you look at 2023 SPY daily Time frame, can you confirm the 3 wave pull back ABC is from 6/26(A)-727(B)-8/18(C) and we are into an uptrend.

  EPI: If you look at the NIFTY50 Index itself the "abc" completed March 2023. After looking at the EPI chart it looks like the final 5 of C is near completion, so I think I would feel confident of a buy near $31 with a $29 SL. Please comment if you have a different perspective. Thanks for the video.

  Hi Jason, as in that five-wave move would be wave 1 of a larger 5th wave? It seems much less likely to me given the size of the current pullback, especially when looking at it from the perspective of some of the big name stocks out there and how much they've drawn down. A move below 3200 at any point would confirm it as that larger down move, as is it seems like the best explanation already. I hope that helps!
