I was at that x games in San Diego in 97. Partied with the S&M guys. Buddy of mine tried the first double backflip on dirt at that comp. Matter of fact he was the first one to land a double backflip on dirt about a year later. That was the first x games dirt comp that had a 6 pack ( 3 sets). Another buddy of mine actually won that comp. TJ took gold that year. Fond memories

    1. Lighting shit on fire, fire works and general mayhem being almost as important as the riding itself. 2. The larger than life characters who have this whole mystique on their bike or on video but you meet them and they’re just…a regular guy. 3. Loading an old Buick down with 5 bikes and 5 people trying to explain to the cops in another state what the hell you’re doing.

Have had mine since 2019..., share the fuel capacity and seat comfort issues. Blinkers, tank covers etc., I also agree, however, I feel the win in price compensates for these aesthetics. Transmission and speed wobble.., this is my sixth season riding this bike, no issues at all. In fact I find the handling and transmission excellent. Suspension, brakes, no issue however I'm 5'11'' and 170 lbs..., I find it corners and handles beautifully. My opinion..., the person buying the XSR900 falls into two camps..., they know and understand the massive gap between price and performance or they don't, and have made a major mistake and should exit the decision asap. The cross plane three is clearly one of the best engines ever made in cycling and its wrapped in a very proven frame and suspension. It's not a distance cruiser or a land speed projectile. It's a dependable, finely balanced hammer. Respect it and use the proper traction control settings with the appropriate riding modes and it's Clark Kent with Superman on reserve. Ride Safe and Wear the Gear!

Burly everything. Dropouts, axles, wheels, chains, frames, tiny tires running 100psi. The irony of the 40 lb bike era is those frames were prone to cracking because NOTHING flexed! Wasn't until years later that I figured out that mid school bikes / frames were too stiff and cracked where the two shockwaves met.

You know who you’re dealing with big trouble 👊🏻👊🏻, Wood chuck Any on got a scare in there knee because the big bolt on the stem? You would skid a hole in your tyre and push train tickets and any old card to get done. Number on four jerry mini pegs they looked like 10mm sockets.

You don't need the compression bolt after the clamp is tightened. Mine stays in the toolbox with the wrench. Now if only the stem and fork didn't have stickers on the mating surface for some reason... That's one thing S&M still hasn't figured out.

I love my midschool tank, but I must admit that I just don't know how we rode with the terrible geometry. The bmx dark ages for sure! My bike definitely rides better with modern bar setup, but it's just not comparable to modern bikes.

Back in the old school days, around 87 to 89, Brian Blyther was the first rider I ever saw riding a tennis ball on his front wheel, and I never really got to know why he did that other than to look cool. Here's a rare photo of him riding one on his... back wheel! vintage-bmx-ads.blogspot.com/1988/12/airwalk-brian-blyther.html

Damn being a teenager in the mid school I did most of what you said. Goofy is running so cut down bars you have grip on the bend to the cross bar. Brand loyalist - "I bought a pair of vans once they suck that's why I only ride Etnies." Baggy jeans with the right pant leg rolled. Duct tape patch job on pants.

Garrett was next level! I was lucky enough to witness him tearing up at my local park with Joe Rich and a couple other guys back in the day. Within minutes of them getting there they had lines and transfers figured out none us us locals would even consider. Garrett was doing these massive turn downs from one bowl into another that required him to crank at full speed and then carve/drop into the deep end of a massive vert bowl. He seemed like such a mellow dude but his riding was so gnarly!
