    I have both. V7/V7x sounds good, but proximity effect is too strong. You can't record close to the sound source, or everthing becomes excessively muddy and boomy.

    One mode stops it tilting left/right. Another mode stops up/down and another fixes on a position and stays there. They all stabilise but some movements can be restricted which can be really useful.

    Did you click any buttons on the action 4 to pair it or only the transmitter ?

  • @iancraig
    @iancraig2 күн бұрын

    @@mjay7238 Yes. You pair the mic to the camera via the camera menu and the pairing button on the transmitter/mic. You go into ‘wireless mic’ and press ‘TX’ so that the camera starts searching and also the ‘pairing button’ on the mic. After a short while, they link and you press ‘Confirm’. That’s it. Once paired, it should work automatically after that.

    Hello, sorry for my English, it is not my native language. I am really interested in the HDR-CX450 because of the possibility of the external microphone, however I am also interested in using the internal microphone mainly, but I saw a video where they said that the sound quality of the internal microphone was horrible. I have not been able to find another reference on the internet that evaluated the quality of the internal microphone of the HDR-CX450, but I did find that of the HDR-CX405. Do you consider that there are differences in audio quality between these two models with respect to the internal microphone?

    Always wanted to record a really noisy underground train with no clipping - it sounded fantastic - great for sound design and playing around plus so light and small to carry round and the battery life is really good. I am sure the sound quality is probably better with my H6 - but for ease of use and fun this is a great mic IMO thanks for the video.

  • @iancraig

    Yes, I think the h6 is more refined, but this little thing gets you out of having to play around with levels, which is the one feature I really like about it. Just press record.

    Great review but I still have an issue: I am trying to input my audio interface (Behrenget 1820) in Zoom without success. I was told phantom power not necessary. Help, please.

  • @iancraig
    @iancraig10 күн бұрын

    I’m not familiar with that particular interface but it might be useful to test each separately. Make sure you are getting audio from the output of the interface and plug a mic directly into the Zoom to make sure that it is accepting audio. If they both work individually, maybe check phantom power switches on both. Turn off on the Zoom but on, on the interface. I’m guessing that you want to use more than two mics? If not, I would go directly into the camera myself. That will take two on left and right channels. The preamp on the Zoom is quite nice.

Five to six feet long and jumping out of the water to take the fish that I held and half my arm with it! I’ve got three weeks here to think about it, but some of the really big things, I’m not keen on getting stuck with on the end of a rod. A man was attacked by a bull shark today in Key West. Nearly took his leg off!

  • @iancraig
    @iancraig14 күн бұрын

    I didn’t notice and to be honest, I never used it that much. It’s a mono mic with a stereo 3.5mm plug so theoretically, it should send the same amount to each side. Also, I would have mixed it to mono so it might be what you’re listening on.

  • @larryboyce
    @larryboyce14 күн бұрын

    You compliment the audio performance, but it looks like you're using an externnal mic in many of your scenes. Why?

  • @iancraig
    @iancraig14 күн бұрын

    Because the external mic fits directly into the camera preamp. It has a very good preamp, with an auto camera bolted on. This isn’t a video that demos the camera. I’m talking about my feelings after having used it for a while and what I feel are the good and bad things about it. When recording audio in a room, to get as clear speech as possible, I used a dynamic mic (one of the better ones too) and it was plugged straight into the camera. You see, the preamp is good enough to drive a dynamic mic. Also, for speech, I didn’t want to use stereo so using onboard stereo mics in a room didn’t really make much sense unless I was vlogging or something. The camera is awful handheld. No stabilisation. So I also had to use a tripod.

  • @larryboyce
    @larryboyce14 күн бұрын

    @@iancraig So the audio processing of the camera is good, but the camera mics not so much? I was hoping to use the camera standalone for recording myself playing acoustic guitar and singing. Are you saying that an external mic would be preferred for this?

  • @iancraig
    @iancraig14 күн бұрын

    Anyone recording decent sound would use external mics. The stereo mic that they supply is OK but you will pick up more room sound. It really depends what you’re doing with the recording. Good enough for quick takes with probably more room reverb because the camera determines where the mic is going to be placed. You have no choice. For better sound you need two mono mics. One by the sound hole and the other pointing at the 12th fret. If it’s just a demo of something, then the stereo mic is ok. Edit: just realised you want to record voice, so one mic on guitar. Start at sound hole and move up slowly towards fretboard to find best audio spot. Second mic for voice, close up.

  • @larryboyce

    @@iancraig great thanks for the response. I do have some very good recording gear both for my instruments and for my vocals I was just planning on using this to make quick videos mainly for my family post them on Facebook such as that not really expecting professional recording just something that would be good enough for them to listen to and enjoy.

  • @iancraig
    @iancraig14 күн бұрын

    In that case, the stereo mic will be fine although it will tend to sound a bit ‘bathroomy’ unless you get close to curtains or something. The stereo mic produces a little more self noise than a real quality mic but no one will probably notice. Just play and sing loud!

    I am using a Gopro Hero 7. Just with the stock mic I am picking up a lot of low sounding roar from traffic. What mic would be best for not picking that traffic noise?

  • @iancraig
    @iancraig20 күн бұрын

    All of these mics will do a better job than the GoPro mics. That’s because they are directional. If you face the traffic with them, it will be just as loud, but if you point away from the traffic, they will be better. In all honesty, they will all do pretty much a similar job rejecting the noise. Bear in mind that the GoPro has a very wide field of view so those mics with bulky deadcats might well show. Imo, the Takstar ‘sounds’ the best. But with all of them, you may have to use the narrowest field of view.

    Word of warning when using these outside in sunlight, which you will, that's the reason for using it! If you hold the camera pointing to the ground with the loupe lens pointing up, you'll concentrate the sun on a single spot on your screen and will burn it, with a permanent yellow mark. Once you've stood like that for several minutes you'll have a family of yellow marks all over the screen. The loupe lens is a magnifying glass. I damaged two cameras before I realised. I've used the Action 4 which is a brilliant little camera, since it came out and never understood why I felt so bad about the Action 2. So this is a quick little video about nothing in particular, using just the Action 2 and its internal mic, wandering around to see what I get. Just one thing, Don't use an ND filter while walking!!! I’m just pricing up a DJI mic 2 for GoPro but for the TX and RX plus GoPro media mod it would set me back around £250 😤 I could probably sell my GoPro 11 and then buy the Action 4 and a single DJI mic 2

    If you get the Action 4, then the DJI Mic 2 is just superb with it. Set input volume around +6 on the Action and it sounds great and has a really healthy volume too. The Action 4 and Ace Pro are my favourite Action cams. Gopro doesn't come into it for me.

    It’s vastly different from Australia. Looking at the pond my first thoughts were of snakes and mosquitoes, then I realised they wouldn’t exist there. This is the best review I’ve seen. Thank you. I just bought a used one on EBay rather than a cheap new one & it seems I’ve landed a beauty. They’re still available new for $AUD500+ . On a tripod it should fine for filming football for the local club. Thanks again!

    Great for football with the huge zoom on it. Yes, in the UK, the only thing we fear the most is the neighbour. A very ferocious breed.

    i have the Zoom Q2n and the picture always looks a little bit grainy?

  • @iancraig
    @iancraigАй бұрын

    I guess small sensor doesn’t help. Also, you can’t fix the iso so that it stays low. The lack of manual overrides makes it difficult to get good quality on these cameras other than in really good light.

    @@iancraig cheers for info,.. im looking for a good phone camera or camcorder with great picture and sound,.. i thought with the zoom products the sound would be great,... but not impressed with the grainy picture,.. i would imagine its the same for the zoom q8n-4k video camera,..

  • @iancraig
    @iancraigАй бұрын

    Yes. Q8 is the very same. I loved the form factor and sound, but hated the picture quality when light was less than ideal. Mine’s long gone. All they needed to do was get it to work in manual mode, so that we could get iso under control. Trouble is that in low light, the iso is possible going up too quickly rather than shutter. I’m not sure, but low light is really poor which is quite funny for a camera designed for musicians who often work in low light environments. Also the fov was too wide for my tastes.

    Hi Ian, have enjoyed your vids on the CX405 and other topics. I've been using a CX405 for a few years now and completely agree with you about its ease of use and its secret power (optical zoom). My two tips are to put a couple of little stick-on lavalier furry windshields on each of the mics. The wind noise without them makes the audio almost unusable, with anything more than the most gentle of breezes. With the little lavalier windshields the audio is magnitudes better! Other thing I do is to use a small powerbank with a usb extension cable. I velcro it to my tripod or just leave it in my pocket. That little village btw is just so quintessential England! Where is it? Surrey/Kent maybe?

    Hi. Yes, great ideas. I’m in a village called Crockham Hill, which is right on the border between Kent and Surrey. On the path where those old Canterbury monks walked and apparently, stopped in our pub which was then an inn. I’m surrounded by farms which is fantastic, but there isn’t a single shop here, so if we get snow, it’s freezer time!

    @@iancraig ah ha, my wife's parents were in Smallfieid. I'm a Kiwi in NZ, but for some reason figured it was close by. Lovely part of the world. :) Do try the furry windshields, they really work well for this camera.

    Actually, I use do use fluffies on them normally if it's windy! I love it here except for no shops. Smallfield isn’t far from me.
