    Oh I love this one! Ripe vs unripe bananas. I like the first pair better, but both are realistic. It's hard to shade yellow with purple (I think) since yellow is lighter, but it didn't seem difficult for you, of course - you found the right tones of red violet and blue violet to achieve the ripe vs unripe effect. Can't wait for you next videos. So cool to watch what you do.

    @@CraigEarnshawArt I understand that. It's a complicated process to make and edit a video. The real time segments will be so interesting to see, though. I'm looking forward to that. Your commented videos are great. Good luck with everything - although you don't need much luck because you're very talented.

    What is the difference between a burnished and a colourless blender please?

  • @CraigEarnshawArt
    @CraigEarnshawArt2 күн бұрын

    The colourless blender feels like a chalky waxy pencil that’s just binder with no pigment, the burnisher feels like rock hard lead that’s clear.

    I am learning so much! This makes so much sense. I really like the first example because it is simple. I am still not understanding why you sometimes use a blue when the green is the complement but I assume that is to get cooler shadows. I don't draw but do coloring books and have known for a while if I could just soften the black lines and put in a complementary on an objects like a grayscale before I do the local color I would probably not have to use so many layers to get a more depth. I am putting down way too much pigment and it's a mess and I am still not getting the 3d effect you are getting with just the complement and the local color. I am going to test this out and see what happens.

  • @CraigEarnshawArt
    @CraigEarnshawArt2 күн бұрын

    Cooler shadows that’s correct. Good luck with your tests, I’d be interested to know what kind of paper your colouring books are printed on, I know some cheaper papers can cause problems when laying down colour, other than that I guess it’s all about light layers and the very slow build up!!

  • @PursuingHeaven
    @PursuingHeaven2 күн бұрын

    @@CraigEarnshawArt Thanks so much for responding! Most of the coloring books I use are high end (like Fragile World by Kerby Rosanes) and have paper similar to hot press card stock. I usually add a layer or two of clear or white gesso as well to soften the lines and give more texture to work on, it works to a degree. I am fairly certain it is my tonal values because I am just using way too many pencils instead of sticking with a couple pencils with cool and warm tones and complements like you are doing here. I need to vary the pressure and saturation more like you do and be more mindful of the direction of the light and how color curves from it. Less is more I am learning.

  • @CraigEarnshawArt
    @CraigEarnshawArtКүн бұрын

    @@PursuingHeavenInteresting, I do vary the pressure to create different tones I guess, the trade off being sometimes you can create the perfect tone but still have lots of paper grain showing which may or may not need further work based on your particular style. Never thought to use gesso, something to try out!

But your explanations are consice without leaving anything out. While the demo develops smoothly right before our eyes at a pleasing pace. I just love your teaching style! And I'm subscribed to a ton of art channels! Maybe your teaching style just matches my learning style better than other channels. I'm surprised you don't have more subs. We'll have to change that! You mentioned that the paper you are using is not necessarily the best for the amount of layering you are doing here, and it sounded like you reached your maximum layers. If you were to choose a different paper for this same drawing, what would it be?
