    Are they good dogs to go on runs with? I do two 10Km runs during the week and one longer one then at the weekend normally 16km or more. I walk about another 10,000 steps separate from the running with all the school and creche walks so outside of the days I’m not running there’d be plenty of walks. Also how long can you leave an adult springer alone if necessary?

    Great dogs for running with. Depending on how you bring them up leaving them for 4 hours is fine. Every dog I have owned has never damaged or chewed anything in my house. Guidance a leadership from young & fulfilling their lives like ours is key. Thanks Jeff

Then I just remembered I had an extra set of bones super reds in the closet, stuck em in, literally too fast and carvey for my abilities now. Next level board. How they sell their boards $250+ w those shit Abec 7s basically Walmart bearings is beyond me.

    I'll give the driver a 8/10 and the rescuer a 3/10. I drove IRBs for surf life saving Australia for 3 years, did competetive IRB tube rescue racing for 3 years and trained with my local surf lifesaving club in IRB rescue for 7 years, 5 of which included active patrol. Been out of the game for 25 years but it's a game I know well. They weren't performng a rescue in this video, nor were they supporting a rescue. That means they're doing what we used to do 90% of the time. Training. But it sure didn't look like any training run I've ever been on. The driver handled the boat and read the water at a very confident and competent level, from one waterman to another, nice driving. I don't have much to say about his work that isn't a compliment. The driver's job, obviousy is to control the craft, read and react to the waves, carefully choosing the safest and fastest way to traverse areas of breaking waves. My markdown there was for lack of communication. The rescuer's job (the guy at the front,) for 80% of the time is to act as a counterbalance, the objective being to keep the center of gravity of the IRB as low as possible, and as centered as possible, especially in tight turns and punching through breaking waves. There are a set of positions, techniques and holds that need to be used by the rescuer to keep the team and the boat safe on the way out to recover a victim in the water. I saw a rather bad one-handed demonstation of a lock in, but other than that, not a single exhibition of the essential skills or tasks a rescuer performs in an IRB. I've given him a few points for not falling in. On a training run like this it's not uncommon for a highly experienced driver to act as rescuer, while a novice driver learns from the more experienced crew mate. But when that happens the rescuer is coaching the driver with driving skills while also performing the requisite positions and motions for turns, punch throughs and fast running the rescuer needs to perform, but in a more dynamic and exaggerated manner than usual, again to coach the driver. That rescuer wasn't doing that, nor was the driver apparently instructing a novice rescuer, it was like the rescuer was just along for a ride out in the surf. What this tells me is Cornwall needs to do an exchange program with some Aussie SLSC IRB teams, send some of your IRB teams over here to train with us, send some of our instructor trainers (the guys who teach our instructors,) over there to train with you. As always, I'm only thinking of what's best for the unfortunate souls we bravely go out to rescue, and the saftey of those who go out there for them.

    Hey,, could you tell me an easy way to teach my springer to leave and stay, because he is pretty impatient.

  • @jefflayton10
    @jefflayton103 жыл бұрын

    Personally I now use the command Wait! to cover both words. Hold a treat & say Wait! whilst blocking them with your hand, then increase the length of time. Then use it when crossing roads & walking through doors before them, so they are constantly learning the command. To help always block with your hand until they understand what you want. Repetition & patience is key here

  • @jefflayton10

    When you see them about sit Say the command Sit so they get familiar with the word. Also getting they're complete attention like in the video, say sit & put slight pressure on there rear while raising your other hand . So this will put weight on there rear end making them full into the sit position, thanks Jeff

    I literally had my Springer housebroken the day I brought her home. I took her outside. When she squatted down and peed I started saying, "Good girl" and petting her and she somehow knew I wanted her to use the yard as a toilet. They're ordinarily a super intelligent breed. If you don't get results consider asking a trainer if they can break your dog of that habit.

    Mine used to find yellow tennis balls every time we went out, I used to get annoyed when he kept coming back with them, and also golf balls.(many). He had a fantastic memory, he’d remember things for weeks if it involved a yellow tennis ball, I once threw one over a fence into another field in long grass, a week later when we went that route again I let him off the lead and he belted off, then he found a hole in the fence 200 metres away and came back to the place I’d thrown It took me a couple of seconds to realise. Should have seen the look he gave me. I loved him for 13 years and miss him more than words can express, RIP Gerry, you monkey.
