  I’m a licensed nail tech in Pennsylvania and want to do nails and craft things at home as a hobby/side hustle- not a salon. Do I still need to apply for a salon license through the state board of cosmetology? I’m in the process of getting a permit for home occupation from my local zoning and i plan on getting a llc

  I'm a prospective client looking for a certain look that I can't seem to get when I go to a nail salon. So often there's so much trickery, racism, back stabbing, and dishonesty happening at nail salons. I would LOVE to go get my nails done at a home of someone who acts professional, the being professional is key for me it's not very often that people are. You get nasty attitudes, rudeness, only being nice to you if they think you have money, only being nice to white people in the salon... I could go on but you get it. I would love to have the service and not have to listen to other client's screaming kids or nail artists shouting across the room in another language making me feel uncomfortable. Women are looking for a professional spa like environment. As long as I could get the look I wanted and it'a clean nice environment with no screaming kids, the tech could do it outside for all I care.

  So if you have a cosmologist license than you can still booth rent, it’s what I’m getting at by watching the video. If you just went to school to be a manicure you can no longer booth rent but will either become a regular employee or rent a suite? But if you have a cosmology license than you can still both rent?

  Hi! I want to start doing my own gel nails, I’ve done them twice before so far. I was just wondering what should I do if I do flood my cuticles with gel and get it on the sides of my finger? Do I wipe it off with acetone? Or would you recommend using a thin nail art type of brush to spread the gel to the sides of the nail instead after just putting gel nearer to the middle of the nail which might be tedious but I’m really worried about an allergy? Also I leave a long time in between like at least two months (I don’t have much time I’m at school), so if I were to occasionally get gel on the skin and wipe it away would chances of an allergy be low as you mentioned going nails every two weeks.   Does this apply to salon suites? I don’t know what the difference is with booth rent in an established salon vs private suites. Im halfway through school to get my manicurist license and this feels like its going to be a major diversion from my upcoming plan 😭

  I want to say that somewhere in the middle of the video Jaime explains this. It does not apply to salon suite owners, but if you wanted to rent your studio/sub-lease then things can get technical. Worth a listen.

  Independent manicurists usually specialize in one or the other. Salon techs may offer both.

  Yes, but the plastic may wear down your bit faster. If you do a lot full coverage tips I would increase to coarse ceramic for removal.

  I am not sure what product is on my real nail... acrylic overlay? I would like to transition to doing my own gel at home on just my real nail without the overlay. I usually go 2-3 weeks for a fill and color change. Can I use a Dremel to remove the gel and the overlay product? Thanks!

  And I appreciate the comments, thank you! Zillabeau just launched their own gel line, "Gel Monsta" which is made in Korea and should be hema-free, but I have not tested it. There are hema-free options within Japanese gels too.

  We just started a nail collective in hawaii because we have quite a few independent artists. This is an interesting conversation to bring up. One common comment that comes up is the amount of money we invest to start is much higher than other beauty services...colors. equipment, space etc. You definitely dont start as an independent provider to make the money 😂
