ya got to be rich foreigner or rick parents
That's just the thing - a lot of kiwis are going off grid because it's a cheaper way to live than a more traditional on-grid lifestyle, and a lot more fulfilling!
hey brother.. just a quick question if you dont mind.. on the growatts parellel set up, specifically these same 5000 ES units, if one inverter faults/fails/abruptlyt shuts down, will the other continue to provide power? or stop as well?
I want one!
Hello, can we use the generator to ONLY charge the batteries without ever powering the house appliances? Thanks!
Best vid I've seen in years keep it up men
Thank you so much for your support!
Thanks GridFree - great video. Good people, their happiness and ease with themselves and their lives shines.
Let's go off grid bring the generator why cause we are going off grid bro that's camping not going off grid
Bunnings are my go to too. Love them ♥
A true Aotearoa family 🖤🤗
What would it cost to build something like this
Awesome, would happily downsize our house to some land and a big bus
Hey cuz. I have a bus the same size, Mercedes 303d 1989. Same axle set up etc etc. Have lowered the floors too... Still a work in progress... Am fifty. 7 cats. 😻
Living the dream
@@Craig_Simpson not yet my man... Not yet... Mine is a rear engine 6 speed manual... So there's that. It's also 14.8 litre four stroke V8 diesel. So.. Yeah... Long way to catch up with the bus in this video. It's parked. I'm driving a skyline becuase my Falcons have wiring issues. Was hundreds of hours just removing the interior and getting the floor 12 inches lower... The rear engine leaves my bed a few in the air to maintain top access to the hand pressure system for when i run it dry of diesel... Have been hitting OFF GRID up for over a year to accept a payment plan for the setup in this video. Benefit living isn't for everyone
One of my favourite episodes!
Cortina buddies
Thanks for ya time Craig, I appreciate meeting ya, buddies for sure
Ty for sharing Wishing you all the best . Simplicity is freedom ❤
Always!
Top stuff James do you supply tents overseas?
If I'm running two of these inverters in parallel split phase and I want to use the autostart, do I just use the dry contacts on the Master Unit and leave the second unit's dry contacts alone?
Great video and good work from Elite. Would be great to see an episode dedicated to the Battery sheds and ideas you have seen. I was thinking about a 8ft shipping container but would love to see what you guys have come across in peoples builds.
That's an excellent suggestion. I believe many others would find it valuable as well.
Great suggestion!
Awesome ❤
What area is this im Maori and you havent said the name of the area properly so had no idea
How much?
Check out their website here: www.safaritents.co.nz/
Kia ora Steve and Whanau! Such an awesome and peaceful location, great choice. Just wondering how you go obtaining the land clearing consents.
Isn't it a fantastic set up? That's a great question - this is Steves website: buildgood.co.nz/ He has some great content including a podcast on his passive house journey it might have some information about that in there.
look, love the home, and loving the support on the Plant Pot!!! #FreePalestine Xx
hey quick question how much would it cost if i needed a setup to power everything as if i was on the grid
Heya! Thank you for your question. We have this awesome load calculator on our website that can give you an indication on how much power you might need according to your appliances you intend to use. Depending on how much power you need will depend on which kit size will be best suited for you! Load calculator: gridfree.store/pages/load-calculator We also have an article here: gridfree.store/blogs/how-to-articles/how-do-i-know-how-much-solar-power-i-need?_pos=4&_psq=how+to+calcul&_ss=e&_v=1.0 When you're ready to have a look our kit range starting from only $4,200 for our smallest kit: gridfree.store/collections/complete-off-the-grid-solar-kits
yep
amazing job team
Thank you! Very well deserving family.
Great work Sally and Dan. I enjoy seeing new off grid businesses. The Maui looks like a cool tiny house.
Thanks so much for your comment! We really appreciate it. We're glad you think the Maui looks cool - it's one of our faves too!
Awesome
Thank you! We're glad you like it.
THANK YOU BILLY, YOU ARE AWESOME😍
Billy is AWESOME - agreed!
Kudos to you two. I love this lifestyle too. I've been living alone, off grid in caravans since 2014. Didn't have a tap (buckets of water uphill) or heating (except a hot water bottle) candles for light, etc. Every small improvement is a huge step and causes feelings of so much gratitude. Now I have a tap to my outdoor kitchen, a shed & a shower (instant hot water with a califont!) solar runs my fridge, my freezer, an inverter, water pump (shower) lights and charges all my devises Gas for heating & cooking. I live and breathe in nature. I have wild creatures all around me (although some of the birds are fairly tame now) flower gardens which the bees love, and fenced off vege gardens. I look out my windows at the bush, mountains and ocean ❤ I LOVE THIS LIFESTYLE ❤
Oh wow, your lifestyle sounds so lovely. Thank you for sharing your story!
Thank you for the video. I am finishing up my build with the Growat 12K with 2 48v lipo4 batteries I put together from Docan. I have the 9000 watt Dura Max inverter generator running on propane to power up the EG4 Chargeverter. My plan is to only run the 100 amp Chargeverter on the generator.
Sounds great, good luck!
Doesn't look like a true Staubli MC4 to me. You might want to mention that in the video since they are not cross compatible. There is no such thing as an "MC4 Compatible Connector," Cross-mating other Mfrs similar looking connectors with true Staubli Multi-Contact MC4 TM voids the listing, warranty and may well lead to fires. Seriously.
Love what you are doing,
Marie is such an inspiration! 😊
Great information, thank you 😊 Lovely articulate lady!
We are so glad you enjoyed it and it was helpful information!

What an awesome setup they have made.
Right!? Their set up is so awesome!
How much was the house build?
Josh estimated around $50k for the house build, which is so impressive!
Hi, Thanks for this detailed video! It really helped me understanding the product. I've got 2 SPF 5000ES inverters in parallel and 8 ARK 2.5L-A1 batteries. I need an output of 10kW (200A x 51.2V), so I wanted to connect two groups of 4 batteries (each 100A) together with this ARK LV HUB-A1, but I noticed it's no longer in production. I live in the Netherlands and I can't get the hub here or anywhere else in Europe anymore unfortunately. Do you think it would be possible to combine the 2 BMS CAN communication cables together a different way, via a kind of different brand BMS combiner if that exists. Then I can connect the postives and negatives together with 2 bus bars myself. Or.. if you still have these hubs in stock, would it be possible to ship them to the Netherlands? Many thanks in advance! :)
We do have these hubs in stock. Get in touch via our website, hopefully we might be able to sort something out for you! gridfree.store/
What a lovely episode and giveaway. 💓. This couple and their whanau are very earthy and are true blue gid free. Very well deserved. ❤
Thank you for watching and your lovely feedback! YES, their goals for sustainability and giving back to their community are really inspiring!
Great video! Thanks! If I have 3 battery stacks with each 10 of them (total 25.6KWh each stack), does that mean I will need a much thicker positive and negative cables on the output side of the battery hub (or Growatt combiner hub) which can handle 300A? I assume maximum amps for each stack is 100A allowed, so combing all of 3 stacks will end up 48v and 300a if I'm not wrong?
Heya, thanks for your question! Usually a multistack set up with a battery has multiple inverters. Each inverter will have its own cable pair to the bus and will only draw up to the maximum on one stack (depends on the specific inverter of course). If you have a no standard set up I.e. a single inverter that can draw 300A attached to a hub with 3 stacks, then yes, you will need to ensure adequate cable size and protections. You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions. E: [email protected]
Amazing!
So your telling me i need 800 watts of solarjust to offgrid for 2 days ?
It depends on how much power you want to use of course! But if you want some lights, chargers, and a minifridge with some other small items, then this kit will provide you with the power you need to support that everyday. It's called the Weekend Warrior kit because it's a great choice if you're only using power for a couple days - you can use a bit more without worrying about running out the next day, as you'll have several days in between to allow the batteries to fully recharge.
Awesome videos Craig, they're a pleasure to watch, I just stumbled on GridFree today surfing the web, I like everything about what you're doing cuzzie, it's simple to setup if you want to do it yourself, pretty good pricing too, the best thing I like is the total separation and independence from the main grid and no quarterly power bill, I know who I'll be ringing when I move back to Aotearoa Off Grid
Thank you for watching and your support, mate! This type of feedback is what really keeps us going! 😊
Livin the dream 👌
Best vid yet. These guys truly live off grid and I'm impressed, well done GridFree for choosing them. Too many people in their fancy set ups doing it for a lifestyle change. This whanau live it. Tino pai!
Thank you for your support Lachelle! It means so much to us to be able to give back to our community. It was an awesome filming day getting to know Sarah, Tim and their wee ones!

A life authentic and true ❤️ That's so how my dad and uncle lived most of there lives... I spent many yrs living the same way with dad and am being drawn back to it..
When you see how happy people are, living the simple life, it's hard to resist!
Reminds me of Dad and Dave, Hey Dad i just had my first shag, thats great son, when do you think you will have another? Not for a while Dad, my arse is still sore.
Those guys are inspirational .I am onto my fourth system and I got from grid Free for the first time . Set it up and have lived happily ever after in the shadow of Mt Ruapehu - snow has had little impact , just wipe off gently . But the change in lifestyle and reduction of stress are a major shift and those kids have some very cool parents . I wish them well .
They are seriously inspiring - we felt it meeting them too! Wow, that is awesome, we are so happy to hear that your system is working well for you. We would love to see some photos of your solar set up if you'd be happy to share - especially in the snow?
Living the Dream, definitely agree with the offgrid lifestyle and I love that so Many kiwis are starting to create their own little camps now and enjoying the simplicity of this life.. Love their set up..I'd love to find something like this out in the bush somewhere that's been left behind and is unwanted, One day.. Legends
Totally agree! It's so awesome to see how many people are doing this now, embracing a simpler life. Hope you can too someday!
@GridFreeStore +It buzzes me out when I'm traveling, I live in me van in a small camp but I'd love to be waaay more isolated, appreciate you 🙏 have a beautifully blessed week.
