It's so much easier to read this splendid book now, after the revelations of such scandals has finally turned Ireland into a secular democracy rather than a corrupt theocracy. The historical Jesus would surely roll over in his grave if he knew of the many atrocities committed in his name.

I have just read chapters one and two, and I am enthralled; I can hardly believe what I'm reading, as I move from fantastical scene to transfigurative scene, from wayard promiscuity to forlorn emptiness, from here to there and back, sick and dying, using and being used, discarding and moving on, then being reborn...and now what? What next? Can't wait to see what happens to Gibreel. Rushdie is brilliant!
