The Shack

The Shack

Welcome to The Shack. Here’s a channel about off-grid cabin living and hunting. My slice of paradise is not connected to any public utility services such as electricity, water, or sewage systems. Instead, it relies on alternative sources of energy and resources, such as solar panels, generators, rainwater and harvesting.

This allows me to be more self-sufficienct and independent, but also requires additional planning, maintenance and hard work.

My off-grid cabin is located in the remote wilderness. The Shack can be used for a variety of purposes such as vacation home, hunting lodge, or permanent residence.

Please join my friends and I, on our journeys at The Shack. Enjoy!!!

Why did you need more than the the flow of the original spring? That looked like just over 1 gal/min which is 1,440 in a 24 hour period. That would be more than enough for 2-3 household(EPA est. 138-400gal/day for a typical family of 4) would be able to use that much water. That is not the proper way to develop a spring. Rule 1: do not disrupt the spring, Rule 2 do not obstruct the out flow. If either of these are not followed the outlet of the spring can move and seep from another location. 5gal/min, why do you need 7,200 gallon of water per day?

Pretty cool setup, I watched your earlier video when you set in the second line and noticed it pulsating. I wonder if you can add a "T" fitting at the top of the source to allow air in ? Kinda like poking a whole in a gallon jug and the flow is faster and it doesn't pulse. A spring house at the bottom would be pretty cool!

Placed my order on the 6th receive confirmation number. A week later receive an email stating they are out of stock and won't know when they will have a unit available for 5 weeks. So my only option are to cancel my order or wait for 5 weeks for news when they will be available. Even right now on this website it shows they have units available for sale and have a delivery date for a week and half. Very disappointed and I will be telling everyone to avoid this company. I put a one star review on their website and It never registered my review it appears they only put 5 and 4 stars on their website. Be careful with this company.

The pulsing water at the end is likely due to air that is in the hose. I bet overtime that disappears once the temperature increases, and that hose flattens out. That is a nice flow. I agree with others… Whenever you can save up enough money, buy as manytwo or $3000 water tanks and just keep filling them up all year. Just amazing.

We hung a buck pole at my buddy's property last year. I was just looking at ways to upgrade it a bit and see what other tweaks/methods people are using. Holy hell, I never thought of a sliding rail like that. I would have loved an in depth look at that rail system (and maybe even the installation thereof). Really good stuff either way, nice work!

I would for go the tee and instead run the two source into a collection box and then run the supply to end use. Another option to incres pressure and flow it use a much larger 3 inch pvc a few feet from the seep supply pipe and put 30 fee of 3 inch pvc down hill to the blue hose and place a plastic barrel were the pipes joint. Smart idea to use multiple sources to provide a stable water supply..

You would increase flow dramatically if you abandon the small diameter PEX for the PVC. PEX is fine under municipal water pressures, but at that length of run, purely gravity fed, you're introducing tons of loss through the PEX.
