    Also how big is that rope tarp on the crag wagon? I only ask because my 70m rope spills over the integrated rope tarp of my Petzl Kliff bag and its quite annoying

  • @climbonequipment

    The Crag Wagon tarp is roughly 3X4 feet. If you are looking for a larger rope tarp for your current bag we sell the Mammut Neon Rope Tarp which can hold up to an 80M 9.8mm rope.

    hello guys! I´m getting hard into this discipline and thinking very counsciously about this shoe. I know that confort at the beggining is important but I know that my progress will be quick. On the other hand I have a wide foot, high instep and 28cm lenght. My thougths are bewteen the Otaki and Kubo (both on 10.5 US). I know that the Otaki is a higher performance shoe but, as I said, my progression will be quick and I don´t want to buy another shoe on the short term so, which one would you recommend? Your comments shall be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • @climbonequipment
    @climbonequipment15 күн бұрын

    It’s amazing you’re fired up about getting into climbing and putting so much thought into your shoes. The Kubo vs. Otaki should not be looked at as a beginner vs. entry-level shoe, but rather as two different shoes with different characteristics. Most notably, the Kubo is quite a bit softer and has rubber on top of the toe box for toe hooking. This would make the Kubo more ideal for routes that involve toe hooks or benefit from a softer shoe, such as indoor volumes or outdoor smearing. You will also have better sensitivity with the Kubo. On the flip side, the Otaki is stiffer, making it ideal for vertical edging on the smallest of holds; however, this does come at the cost of less sensitivity. Although these are the shoes' strengths, they are still considered all-around shoes, making them both quite versatile. The biggest tip for someone like yourself is to choose a shoe that fits rather than one that has the features you want. A Kubo that fits perfectly will edge better than a poorly fitted Otaki. Secondly, don’t worry too much about choosing the wrong style of shoe. Shoes don’t last forever, especially when you are newer and still learning good footwork. The reality is if you don’t like your first pair of shoes, you will be able to try something different when they wear out.

    Does the Neox twist the rope up like the grigri into a pile of coils?

  • @climbonequipment
    @climbonequipment18 күн бұрын

    It is less likely to twist the rope compared to the GRIGRI when belaying however if you are trying to drag someone up on TR or lowering them and excessively use the the right hand side friction plate you will most likely induce some twists. So far I have yet to have a super twisted rope as a result of the NEOX although I know it will happen at some point as that’s just the nature of these things. Generally speaking the straighter the rope can travel the less twists will be created.

    This is perfect for me. My gym has recently switched over to assisted braking devices only so tubular style devices are not allowed. Been lead belaying with an ATC for almost 10 years and didn’t like the feel of feeding rope with a Grigri. If this Neox is close to the smoothness of an ATC, I’m all for it. I don’t mind that it’s heavier.

  • @climbonequipment

    unfortunately, small sizes of Z4 (those with one axis) have the risk of one pair of cams rotating, which makes it impossible to embed them in the rock; this problem does not occur in small X4 and other microcams; this is a serious problem (obviously a design problem), but it can be fixed with home methods;

  • @climbonequipment
    @climbonequipment2 ай бұрын

    Thanks for reaching out! When saving data you need to create a tag to save your data under. For the first time you can type in the tag after your workout. The most common tagging strategy is left hand and right hand although you can create as many tags as you’d like. Once created you can simply choose any of your existing tags for your data to be saved under. Hope this helps.

    Which bad would you recommend for winters (plus shoulder seasons) for use in Northern Sweden, Finland. Sequoia? I temp can dip to -25+, but Im only in these conditions a few weeks a year at most. FO you recommend the MF or Gore fabrics? IS there that much of a packability difference? Thoughts? Selecting the right bag is proving to be challenging. Plus I am a side sleeper... so the rec bags seems a better fit. Thanks!

  • @climbonequipment
    @climbonequipment5 ай бұрын

    There are a lot of points to Unpack in your question! But we'll do our best! First, you need to decide what temperatures you will be sleeping at! If you know the range you are camping in it's easier to narrow down what sleeping bag to get. Western Mountaineering rate their bags at the between the Comfort and lower limit rating. Here is a quote from their website: "The ratings we claim represent a temperature that we consider as the low end of a sleeping bag's intended warmth range when used correctly." If you think you'll be regularly camping at -25C in Finland, then you may need to consider a warmer bag like the Puma(-32C) or at the very least the Lynx(-23C) or Bristlecone(-23C). If you are a side sleeper or someone who needs more space, The Sequoia(-15C) and Bristlecone(-23C) are a bit girthier inside diameter. If you like the mummy fit, the Antelope(-15C) or Lynx(-23C) can be good options! You can also special order your chosen sleeping bag and ask for an overfill of Down! Send us an email at [email protected] and we can answer in more detail. A quick note about the Gore before going too far. For the last couple of years, Western Mountaineering has been using the Goretex Infinium Fabric which is a rebranded Goretex Windstopper Fabric. This year Western Mountaineering is moving away from the Gortex because they use PFA and PFCs in the production which is harmful to the environment. This year Western Mountaineering is moving to a new waterproof breathable fabric they are calling Stormshield. We'll still refer to this at the GWS for the time being! When you place your order we'll have to ask which fabric they are using. The MF bags use Western Mountaineering's (WM) MicroLite XP™ 20 Denier microfiber shell. It is the highest thread count at 400 threads per square inch. The intention is to make this highly water resistant, highly breathable, and very lightweight. This would be good for breathability in a wider range of temperatures so you might not sweat as much. The Gore Wind stopper (GWS) material like on the Puma GWS is the most weather resistant/breathable fabric available from WM and provides their best protection against moisture and condensation. The face fabric has a 273 thread count 30 denier. The breathability of the GWS membrane reduces the threat of condensation while remaining plenty water resistant for the needs of a sleeping bag. GWS sleeping bags are intended to be used in damp or extreme conditions to prevent moisture from reducing down performance. Denier is used to determining the thickness of the fibres in the fabric. It’s a unit of density based on the length and weight of a yarn or fibre. A single strand of silk is considered 1 denier. The fibres in a 40-denier nylon fabric have over 6.5 times the diameter of the silk strand, and almost 1.5 times the diameter of fibres in a 20-denier or “20D” nylon fabric. So though the GWS has a smaller thread count, it's less breathable due to the thicker strands in the material. which makes it more weather resistant. but also traps more moisture like sweat inside, which could be good or bad depending on whether you tend to sweat a lot or use it in more of a variety of temperatures. In general the MF fabric is more packable than the thicker GWS fabrics. Cheers, -Erik

In many ways I am with you (personally I am a die hard Miura lace fan due to it’s low volume toe) however customer feedback has been quite positive with the Generator for trad climbing. Although the toe does have some volume its profile is still quite pointy and has a bit of downturn which enables it to get into most thin cracks equally as well as a shoe like the TC Pro.
