Great episode. You really concentrated on finding the essence of each flavor of SL through the generations in terms of value and performance. That's not easy at all.
Baught a targa after watching love this build
@@kroberts6260 congratulations. Great purchase
Is this a wide body? Looks like one is it because the two sides at the bottom are changed to match the bigger wheels so optically this looks wide? This is so pretty
I absolutely want a R129 video! :)
This is a great show. But how could a 997 ever reach the value of the air cooled? That is just an insane proposition. 964 and 993 were produced about 65-68K each and half of them are cabrios, targas and tiptronics (a lot of them in Europe). Very few manual coupes, really. They produced over 200.000 997's and 221.000 units of 991's. You never consider the production numbers? The new water cooled cars are literally mass produced cars whereas the 964 and 993 were hand built, completely different generation. How on earth could those values rise to the level 964 and 993? Outside the turbos and special models it's never going to happen, imho. Same for any 996. And hey, I drive a 996 4S but these are mass produced cars. They produced 1.5 times more 996's than 993 and 964 combined.
Well done guys. I have owned 3 generations of sl. You showed a pic of my current sl63 which I am immensely enjoying. Although R129 is and will always be the best. Current sl is not selling and should have never used the name. It’s simply a amg gt.
When you think of the „first Porsche“ you might mean the 1939 Type 64
David the engine judge. Good to see you online. Missed you at the Birmingham parade. We had the 904 GTS this year.
Hey! Congrats on the win in Birmingham. Hope to see you guys at next year's Parade
Excellent episode. Enjoyed every minute. And you're absolutely right about R129. That and W140 were the last really over-engineered, top quality Mercedes-Benzes. Just like when the transformation from hand built 964's and 993's moved to water cooled and new mass production like with 996/Boxter, Mercedes quality went down. Both Porsche and Mercedes seriously cut the production costs at that time. I think the only reason why R129 prices haven't gone up is that they made so many of them. I think more than 200.000. Ironically it was too popular. Keep up the good work. Great channel.
Good job chaps 👍🏼
Love PCA! Now just need a Porsche 😮
The big change for the 997 Turbo, rarely mentioned, is the AWD system. The 997’s AWD system is essentially a modern version of the 959’s which uses computers. The 996 used the second gen AWD system which is not as advanced as the ones in the 964 & 997.
I totally agree with you about the colors. First of all - I have never seen a white 996 C4S before and wow! Is it amazing looking. Also, I agree about the red color in the 70s-80s G bodied cars with retractable bumpers only - not so, the 964. I never like it before and always thought 911s never look good in red. So when it came time to buy my 991.1 two years ago, I planned on a black or grey one until one day I saw a guards red car. My jaw just dropped! I can't believe how amazing it looked. Immediately I bought a red C4S when one came up. It's been two years and I still can't get over how amazing it looked. Same goes with a red 996 C4S and Turbo.
I feel the reason the 928 didn’t reach the value pinnacles of the 911 is because it is a Porsche with no racing heritage. Porsche could bring back the 928 by making a 2-door Panamera with a standard V8.
Great job guys!!
Yes SL!
Great show boys. And yes, please do a episode on MB SL cars. Question as well, have you had an episode on early 911's? 1970 to 73. Curious as I own a 73 911S Coupe. Always looking for information etc. Cheers
Great video. Exotic Car Gear does a great job of refinishing carbon fiber trim.
You see these WRX's literally everyday, all day long. 🤣
Will we get an “Inside the 964 Market” segment?
I would love an SL episode. Especially interested in the R129 ( such a work of art). It would be great if you could do a monthly show. I really enjoy your market insights.
Thank you for watching, we are definitely going to be featuring the R129 in the SL episode.
Great Episode James and David ! I enjoy hearing the 996tt are getting more interest, they are a really fun enjoyable Porsche with plenty of turbo power . A SL market review would be awesome have a 1969 280SL
Great episode. I had a couple of emails with David about the 26,000 mile 04 911 anniversary I sold for 47500 2 years ago. I think I made a mistake. They may creep back to sticker sone day. Although loving my 22 M4 comp convertible! Looking forward to the SL episode. Thanks guys!
Thanks for watching, enjoy the M4
My question is why do reserve's keep getting set at 20-40% above what the market clearly will pay?
He said the sell through rates are just now low enough to force the sellers to begin to drop the prices. (The two are yet to meet in the middle still, is how I took it.)
Hi, we appreciate you taking the time to watch the video. Each car is valued individually and there is no blanket answer for your question other than during a transitioning market, you will see more no sale auctions than in a typical climate
The host needs to get his microphone closer! Proximity effect. Either that or boost the preamp.
Yea the differing audio levels between the two guys was quite annoying...
We will correct that, was definitely an oversight and our fault. See you on the next video.
Re: the guards red Carreras - dive into all the comments at PCM / BAT. It was the sellers. One seller/car was questionable, the other did their homework.
Yes have a SL chat
Don’t forget the r107!!
That Ruby RS oh my goodness, need it
Apparently you have some folks who don’t like your business model. kzread.infocCmd3P5pkkE?si=g-8D55KNBHpuYn6c
Bu videoyu çekip paylaştığınız için çok teşekkürler.
Get a Covet instead of 996 if you want that power. For the money, you can not beat a Covet. Now, if you want to enjoy a ride, a 993 will work.
Awesome I have a 997.1 turbo manual. In silver with red brake calipers and black leather inside. Only thing I want now is the new infotainment system. Mr grey t shirt nose is broken , he shouldn’t fix it as it’s probably going to be broken again due to his dumbass comments. Definitely agree that the 997 is much smaller vs the 991. I test drove the 991.1 turbo s. It’s much faster than the 997, but also feels bigger and just more serious. When I got back into my 997 I was happy to have it and will be keeping it for a bit longer. 3 years of ownership and 37000km (10000km done by me)
The 997 infotainment head unit is amazing, particularly for the 997.1 as it gets rid of that outdated phone in exchange for a larger, color touch screen. It really bridges the analog feel of the 997 with modern interior experience. Definitely worth the money.
Excellent show, always interesting and very knowledgeable on Porsche models James and David , I guess I should have kept my 96 993 C4S , but thought it was underpowered back then.
In scent of a woman, the Al Pacino character said there's nothing like the sound of a Ferrari. I beg to differ. In the movie Lemans which pits Ferrari vs porshe, there is no comparison between the raw sound of the air cooled flat 12 of the 917k normally aspirated car and the Ferraris
Great show guys! I have never heard of or seen a 993 cab interesting.
You probably mean 993 Speedster? Cabs are common.
Either way its ugly
David is a great guest, extremely knowledgeable and well spoken.
Amazing story!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
In my opinion, if you want to buy a Porsche 356 the pinnacle of the 356 was the last iteration, especially the 356 SC.
The 288 is much prettier
Win on Sunday. Sell on Monday. Ford, not Ferrari.
Beautiful colour and spectacular car. The best! Just ordered a 1:18 scale model of exactly this one. Can't wait to open it up. Everyone's fine with 250 GTO's being painted in all the colours of the rainbow, but not on a modern Ferrari. It just may become an extra special classic over time.
What a car. Thanks to the owner for sharing. Enjoy the miles
I have that oil cap on my B7 RS4, it’s also on the Audi R8’s… Porsche does a lot of stuff really well, but they also reuse stuff too. Unless they kept the design and made the metal white gold too… Still a gorgeous car!
You only can't get the metric tires (Michelin TRX) for the very early Testarossas, with a center lock wheels. Later cars got the regular 5-lug, 16" rims and for those tires are not a problem. For the early cars, you can get aftermarket, OEM looking center lock wheels in normal size (not metric) that solve the tire issue. The EURO spec Testarossas are more desirable for several reasons: the rear bumper looks much better (no ugly bumperettes), regular seatbelts (not automatic) and no cats (much better sound & more power).
Great video! Any thoughts on the very early cars?
These are my cars....(o\!/o) |o\*/o|
Important clarification….only 75 F512M in USA version, far more desirable than the other 426 ROW. 2 totaled in US version so only 73 original left, 1 is a rebuild in Light Blue Maranello, so 72 remain as built. Top sale last year at PB was 785k,in Nero, and a standard Rosso Corsa sold for 730k.
Hello, we so appreciate the Ferrari Knowledge. The F512M we were speaking about on the podcast was the later car produced in the 1990's
@@pcarmarketlive351 And that is what I referred you to, I run the registry for the 1995 F512M, which is what the link I sent you takes you to. 512S was the original 512 (1970). What I sent in the original reply is all in reference to the F512M USA version you showed on the video, the 1995 F512M.
how come some comments were deleted from the thread below?
Great episode! Thank you and happy new year.
Jim you’re a ROCK STAR! Very easy on the ears and a wealth of knowledge, you always make sense and your expertise and thoughts on values are always spot on. Davis seems to be all over the place misspeaking often, half the time I can’t follow what he’s saying. Keep up the great work Jim!
Not sure who Davis is but thank you for the comment. Everyone on the podcast is very well plugged into the market and loves what they do. If you are referring to David, PCARMARKET CEO who started the podcast, he handed over the reigns to Jim as he is very busy with other projects. We think he did a great job while hosting the show.
I apologize no disrespect to David Jacobson.😊
Happy new year guys!
