Conley Hoops

Conley Hoops

Hey!

I am Coach Conley. I have been coaching and training players for over 30 plus years. Players I have worked with have gone on to college scholarships and played pro basketball.

I have won a CIF Southern Section Championship as a high school coach as well as finished runner up. I have worked with so many players in my program on how to make it to the varsity level and beyond. Conley Hoops is dedicated to teaching young players in middle school how to be ready for high school tryouts, how to play at the high school level, and beyond.

Working with me can help you get more out of your individual workouts, club workouts and high school experience. Know exactly what coaches are looking for and what your skill set can provide to make you and your team a success.

    On the block it’s not always a bad idea to do a behind the back bc depending on how much room the double team is giving u, u could do a hop step into a layup

  • @CONLEYHOOPS
    @CONLEYHOOPS21 күн бұрын

    Hop step is definitely better most of the time. The behind the back I think is risky and if it didnt' work a coach would be mad at that turnover.

    Yes that makes it more difficult. The idea behind that is get space and use your length for shots. Always keep the ball high when finishing

    yes. So many players rush. When I started working out. I always worked slow to fast So my footwork and eyes would keep up. I always wanted to see the space instead of being too fast.

    I teach my kids the “clip the hip” method, where you’re aiming to bump the defender’s hip as you pass them to keep a tight angle to the rim. I also teach a modified swim move to throw the defender’s hand behind you as you start your drive. In other words, as you start your drive your off hand reaches out and swipes the defender’s hand on your driving side, pushing it down and behind you as you take your first step.

  • @CONLEYHOOPS
    @CONLEYHOOPSАй бұрын

    Love that! Great tips. Teaching players to engage with defenders once they get angles is so important.

    I am a 6 foot 3 center at 8th grade I usually have 3-5 inches over my defender should i just go one pound to the basket or go for a patrick Ewing fadeaway

  • @CONLEYHOOPS
    @CONLEYHOOPS3 ай бұрын

    Footwork is key and getting angles will eliminate working to hard to get buckets. But you should always be versatile. When you have advantages you should attack the basket.

    Thank you coach I was thinking about the pressure that I feel when I’m trying to do so much, but I don’t have to score 20 or 30 points every game,I just have to take my time so I shouldn’t rush myself😅

  • @CONLEYHOOPS

    I see a lot of players press. It’s a fine line between playing hard and playing in a hurry. Play within yourself and work on playing super focused. Play with high level of energy and the ball will find you and the basket.

    As a former football coach and judge, this problem is way worse than it seems. Worst thing i experienced was actually from a coach tho. Was judging a game because my club asked for a favor. Coach was screaming at the top of his lungs regarding my decisions and you could see how dirty his team played which reflected his unsportmanship. (The kids was 5 years old and we were playing in a inflatable football pitch) 😂

  • @CONLEYHOOPS
    @CONLEYHOOPS4 ай бұрын

    yes. There are a lot of good coaches, refs, and parents out there. Its really only a few that make it difficult. I just wished we could keep our perspective on the most important things. But most of the time parents are trying to live through their kids. And coaches, instead of coaching, are blaming refs. It definitely is a problem. That probably won't go away. Thanks for the comment! Appreciate it.
