    You would prefer a VW over a Toyota?? 1. You don't know anything about cars. 2. you have more than enough money to have your VW serviced at a dealer. 3. You're a mechanic at a VW dealership, but even then I would think you'd know better that VW 's are over engineered, parts too expensive shit. 4. You can afford to buy a new car every couple of years before the warranty is up. 5. 6. 7. etc etc

    also toyota runs the engine in variable injection mode... so while in the upper ECO mode u run the engine in a Miller Cycle (toyota calls it atkinson wich is wrong) wich reduces the compression cycle by allowing the intake manifold to close later at PWR mode the intake closes like in any other Otto Cycle engine :) this makes it very efficient :D

    Wow, thank you for the amazingly informative video and 3d graphics. I just bought a prius 2nd G, and had no idea that there were this many different systems involved. I am still trying to wrap my head around the planetary gearset and why it is involved. My Honda Civic hybrid is much simpler by comparison (pretty much just a motor bolted to the engine on the same shaft), but it is a 5 speed stick, and a much more fun car to drive, getting maybe 5% to 10% less fuel efficiency. One question though; you show the gas engine as a normally operating inline 4, but isn't the Prius an Attickson cycle engine? Regardless, thank you for the brain candy!

    If this boggles your mind, wait until you learn how complex the braking system is. In a week long hybrid class at Toyota, techs spend a full day on brakes. At least they did when I took it in 2008. When you brake lightly like a properly defensive driver, the only reason you feel reistance in the first half of pedal travel… is because they added a pedal stroke simulator to give you something to push against. It could easily be effortless since all it’s doing is decelerating by charging the battery.

  • @GoingGoneGalt
    @GoingGoneGalt3 ай бұрын

    @@WildAcresFarms Yeah... Don't get me started on the F=%%/\**ing brakes. No other car on the planet will leave you completely stranded because there is a fault detected in the braking system. Now it is $1500 worth of parts and two days of working on it and hoping that MAYBE it fixes this issue in their idiotic braking system. It is beyond unnecessarily complicated. Hydraulic disc braking systems have been just fine for a hundred years, and ABS was working wonderfully 30 years ago. There is ZERO reason for that rube goldberg pile of crap that is the yota system. They totally dropped the ball on that.

  • @WildAcresFarms
    @WildAcresFarms3 ай бұрын

    @@GoingGoneGalt unfortunately it had to be more than a coventional system to appeal to people unwilling to learn an unusual method of braking: to make it feel like normal brakes yet regeneratively AND hydraulically brake with the same pedal action? Shit got complex fast. Couple that with two redundant methods to ensure the car will still stop when a fault occurs? Triple complex. It’s great... When it works. A repair nightmare if it fails. Fortunately 99.9% of them simply eat a $1,500 ABS module that’s easy to replace. So… yay?

  • @GoingGoneGalt
    @GoingGoneGalt3 ай бұрын

    @@WildAcresFarms Sorry, Honda has it all over them on this one. The regen is perfectly palpable when you just barely press the pedal... As well as giving a visual indicator on the charge meter. Then as more braking force is needed, plain old vacuum assist power brakes backed by ABS for slippery conditions. They work great, feel right, and are a standard system to work on when repairs are needed. They also wont throw an electronic tantrum and leave you stranded by refusing to let the car move if they aren't happy, hundreds of miles in the middle of nowhere. The prius system just plain sucks all around. It was not necessary, and if it really was just to please soccer moms who don't actually know how to drive and wont learn... That makes me even madder.
