THANK YOU. I'm buying this 1896 trunk that will need a restoration, and I was very daunted by the idea of removing all the hardware and possibly damaging it. But I'll just leave it on and do what you have done!
You need to include measurements and angles. Thanks
Greetings! We have several trunks and we want to refinish. What solvent do you prefer to clean outside leather? If leather handles and straps are missing, what do you use? This piece looks great. Great work
Where did you get the leather handles?
Can you please tell us the brands of the clean wax that you're using. And the other brands you're using for the top
That turned out beautiful!! Loved your video!!
Could you tell us what the Deft lacquer was used for? Did you use it in conjunction with the green stain? Or on the leather? Also, What oil & solvent?🤔
Thanks for doing this video. I recently got into dough making and i see a lot of the old timers using a wood box to make rhe dough in. It looks similiar to this. I have a mitre saw so think i can make one :)
I’m just refinishing the top of my gate leg table. I will be doing the base in the next month or 2
Great video, but I hesitated with the thumbs up. Why? Because you showed all the processes on camera, but did not tell us how to do them - techniques, things to watch out for, handy hints and so on. I watched your video to find out how to cut the mitre angles, but you don’t explain it. Oh, I want to make a larger version for mixing dough. Will there be problems with the base expanding and contracting when you have glued it in?
Beautiful.
Hi, I am wanting to make something similar to this, just using the sides & top to hold a row of LED lights. My problem is I can't find a table saw with a 55 degree bevel, only up to 45 degrees. I don't actually care whether it is 45 or 55, but can it be done with a 45 degree bevel, in that case what would the angle of the mitre be ? Thanks a lot.
❤
I had to laugh when I saw the little accident in the beginning... I´ve just had one quite similar while building my trunk. Beautiful work. Thanks for the video.
Is there a list of products you used?
What the hell are the angles you are cutting?!? I’d like to build it too.
Wow! It looks amazing! Great job! I just bought one today. I'm going to restore it also.
question what product did you use for the three coats before the satin lacquer?
Love to have seen the sled and how you got the angles. Is there a particular calculator you used to work it out?
Thanks for the tutorial! I was looking for a video to teach me how to make these tapered bowl type shapes so that I could make a concrete form.
Nice! You keep the patina! Congratulations!
That’s the idea! Patina! If you make to look new, there is no charm!
Bom dia vi seu projeto e gostaria de saber os graus que você usa
I married in the mid 70s and we purchased a 2nd hand bedroom suite, art deco style veneer (no inlays or fancy veneers). It was very dark so we oaint3d it canary yellow. And then i crocheted a yellow abd white afghan bedspread. Still had it in 1988. Dont know what happened to either of them after that. Australia.
Lovely table, excellent job ❤
how did you sand the edges of the table with the hand chisels? I would like to see how you did that part of the table.
Please give me the product name and brand of the sealer you used on the interior.
What do you do when a trunk smells really old? And it’s not a pleasant smell?
My whole house is a wooden bowl containing dog hair.
Great job. Looks beautiful. How did you come up with 55 and 60? If you change one angle how does the other one change? Are you using a formula. Thanks
What if you wanted to replace the leather straps? Would you have to remove the rivets and replace those too? Would it cause too much damage?
Thanks! Looks great. I just bought the same trunk and someone in the FB trunk group said that;s not leather around the edges but a compressed fiber / fake leather. It sure holds up well so that's a good thing.
Great results 😛👍😎
I haven’t seen a trunk that big since I was in my grandparents attic the last time I was in England. You did a great job with it.
Where can I buy the d wack schelack that you used on this trunk
I have one I just got that's an old military trunk. Belber 1934 23-79a. I think it has canvas on it I have no idea how to restore it
Any ideas on how to remove the handle hardware that is nailed on? The metal is thin and there are 3 small nails for each piece. I would like to try and save them. 😊
I have a trunk from my father in law. He was in the army and traveled with this trunk throughout his whole career. He retired as a Brigadier General and traveled a lot in his career. It is well over 100 years and I want to restore it so it can stay in our flat. What were the varnishes you used pleased?
Hi Isaac, If I use normal acrylic paint, do I need to use varnish? I want it to last long after painting it. Thank you! :)
Ughh. I just read your post and you used a stain.. lol.. I will have to search for a metal paint in that wonderful green color.
I am restoring a steamer trunk and was wondering what color green you painted it with, the trunk Im working on is all metal, no wood showing other than the straps. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Love your restorations
Unfortunately I can’t see your product list as KZread allows me to see only the top or newest comments. Would you mind reposting them for me? Thanks so much for amazing help and inspiration to get going with restoring our family steamer trunk. Ours first saw service when my husband’s grandfather was a musician aboard the Canadian Pacific cruise liners in the 1920s. Now it’s battered and bruised but your video encourages me to preserve the best of it for our descendants.
Great little project and you make it look easy. You need your own TV show.
I have one of these trunks in black that I'm thinking of restoring it. It's been a family hand down and probably 100 years old now. Any recommendations?
I was wondering how much damage bleach spray will do to a trunk like that over time? Will it decay the wood and covering the same way it would clothes or paper if you don't neutralize it?
What was the first and second coat you put on ?Someone just gave me a big steamer trunk yesterday. Glad I found your video.
Thank you so much! This will be super helpful when I repair my own steamer trunk.
Nice work! Thanks for sharing! -- Suggestion: Tell us where you obtained the perfect leather handles.
I'm currently working on restoring an old chest and am wondering what kind of glue you use in this video? Any help would be appreciated
The handles can be done by grabbing an old belt if you have one or go to a Thrift store and buy a belt for $2.00. You dont have to find someone to "reproduce" it for you
