    I just returned these :/ Mostly enjoyed them but felt that these and the Boston 12 felt too similar, and I preferred the softer feel I was getting from the Boston versus the firmness of the Mach.

    For me, it comes down to the upper. It's a make or break for me to have a flexible upper. Adidas typically doesn't have them. The Speed series for Saucony, IMO, is the 2nd best upper. The only thing better for me is the Noosa Tri 15/16. If the upper is not flexible, it won't ever be comfortable for me. Just how the cookie crumbles, I guess.

    Thank you for mentioning the toebox. Saucony is noted for having a narrow toe box and on the left side as well. I sized up and got some relief. I've had the Speed 2 and thinking of upgrading to speed 4 for an upcoming Half Marathon. Let me listen to the rest of your review.

    I’ve been occasionally for the last ten years , but never cared of shoe technology etc. Not till I bought Adi Boston 12, that’s a totally new level. I had Brooks, Hoka, Mizuno, Nike and other shoes before, mostly for trainings, did a few of half marathons, but now I aim for more this October in Cologne in Germany with my Boston shoes. They are black-yellow-pink, personalized with my motto on Latin with golden letters and I feel myself like a greek goddes when I’m running!😂 So i’m biased too. Apropo technology- i heard that Adi does not use carbon plates but carbon wire.. is it true?

    I run with the Saucony Triumph 20. Good midsole, not too mushy, but the only flaw is that the heel feels a bit wobbly/unstable. I should have gotten the Saucony Ride 17. Same midsole tech, less stack height so not quite as bouncy, but a bit roomier upper and a more stable ride with a more stable heel.

  • @OffseasonProjects
    @OffseasonProjects16 күн бұрын

    Would you recommend the Triumph 20?

  • @iakona23
    @iakona2316 күн бұрын

    @@OffseasonProjects I think that the midsole material and cushioning is very good and if you never heel strike, then you probably won’t notice the heel instability. I do run in the Triumph 20. If price is not a consideration, I think that the Saucony Ride 17 is better for me. It feels a little more comfortable and spacious in the upper fit, and the heel is more stable. Only difference in midsole is a little less bounce because Triumph 20-21 has more stack height. The next shoe I want to try is the Topo Specter 2 which should be out mid-August. I also would like to try the Mount to Coast S1. For a shoe with good stability, outsole grip good enough for light trail running, and cushioning that you can use for daily training or any kind of running workout, walking, gym workouts, etc. I recommend Mizuno Wave Rider 25-28. They are all pretty similar and older models can be found at big discount. I’ve seen them for $60 new online. Very versatile shoe. Go up about a half size because the upper size can run a bit narrow.

Well protective and good for bigger runners - do not bottom out in long over 3h runs - feels same through whole run. A bit slipery in wet and looks on feet like huge boat but at least dont feel clunky some how ...

    Looking at the two pairs of the Rebel V4 I use in rotation, #1 has 107 miles & #2 has 60 miles. Certainly no issues with lack of "pop" after 100+ miles. Then again, I am 63" (makes me sound taller 😂) and 110 lbs. If you dig carbon, go w/Adidas rods v. a plate (for the torsion flex in the mid and forefoot). I don't wear carbon and in '24 more research is coming in addressing the added bone stress you place on your body/mechanics and what it's doing to your joints/ligaments/tendons. Go to any sports physical therapist and they'll tell you if your bmi is over 24 or so, you probably should not be running in carbon. For many, carbon is like nicotine and I'm guessing by '26 you will see carbon shoes sold with disclaimers on health, no different than cigarettes and alcohol. Why? The class action lawsuits a stirring up with the more volume of carbon wearers and data/research coming in - so deniability cannot be claimed - right now the shoe makers are simply looking the other way...

  • @OffseasonProjects
    @OffseasonProjectsАй бұрын

    Very insightful, much appreciated. Have you heard of any major injuries citing carbon shoes? I feel like we would have seen/heard of such by now. Also, how do you feel about nylon or plastic plates? Lastly, what about plates in maxx cushion trainers?

  • @therapygrind
    @therapygrindАй бұрын

    @@OffseasonProjects "Research has also shown that running in supershoes changes your form: It decreases your cadence, increases stride length and peak vertical forces, and alters foot mechanics. All these add stress to joints. “When you put a supershoe on, you basically have a trampoline,” Dicharry says. “It’s going to compress and rebound, and creates a different rate of loading to muscles and joints.” While no studies to date directly demonstrate that supershoes cause injury, evidence links them to stress fractures, plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathy, and other foot and lower-leg issues" - Outdoorsonline Aug '23. "In a 2018 study by Wouter Hoogkamer, Shalaya Kipp & Rodger Kram in Sports Medicine, carbon fiber-plated shoes were found to have changes on the gait of the runners wearing them - specifically, decreased cadence, longer steps, and a longer vertical “flight” time. In turn, these changes caused higher ground reaction forces with each step. Differences in ankle and metatarsophalangeal joint mechanics were observed when wearing carbon fiber footwear" - Triathlete Be mindful, from a science/data perspective, this is all in its infancy. A technology designed for elite runners on race day only is being adopted by regular people for daily run use, the new studies/research is coming out monthly as the numbers are just now trickling in. Look how long it took to get tobacco to be honest about its effect on health. Max cushion shoes are heavier and less responsive = relatively safe on you mechanics - however that goes out the window when you see companies like Hoka come out with the Skyward X, a carbon max cushion shoe. That's a cash grab to appeal to those getting addicted to carbon. There's enough out there now for people to decide if they want to roll the dice, or error on the side of caution. I've been doing this for almost 45 years and there's a real question if a person with a 25 BMI can wear a carbon shoe as a daily trainer and run for 10 years. What's the impact of the additional bone stress over the course of a decade? I'm not into plates, I like to feel the road and clock 10K daily in a non-sexy rotation (880, Glycerin, Adrenaline, Nimbus, Mach 6) standard stuff, nothing fancy.
