    Your rant on the Ingenieur is well-articulated. Something I’d add is that I wish they’d have gone with a slimmer case shape. The dimensions are relatively thin but something about the wrist presence is too bulky to me. Unrelated, I like the look of the black 41 Ceratanium but 14.5 thickness sounds like a lot. Do you often notice it protruding high above the wrist?

    I like that blue and grey NATO on the Mk20. Looks sharp. I appreciate your feelings for the Ingenuir. I just feel the watch is overpriced. It should cost Grand Seiko money, but they seem to think people are willing to overpay just because they can’t get a Royal Oak.

    I got the topgun woodland version, and been having some issues with the movement- the chrono hand wobbles when accentuated, and also “ticking” instead of sweeping. It’s still at the iwc service centre at the moment but incredibly disappointing. Just wondering if u ever noticed those issues?

    I’m not sure what you are describing, however I’ve not had any issues. Fortunately the IWC extended warranty is robust and I hope you have a good experience once it’s returned to you. I know you’ll be taken care of. I think it’s impossible to produce large quantities of anything without an element of randomness that is beyond control. The question is, how do companies deal with defects? I’ve heard of even high end bespoke brands with warranty issues.

    Great pieces! Maybe they could score more market share that way… Or maybe game theory says that if everyone competes for the same market, no one thrives. It’s ok to have something that isn’t for everyone. It may even confer longevity at the expense of growth, since fashion trends come and go.

    Really like the channel. All very relatable! I think the watch is pushing it on 54 mm lug to lug. I got a 7 inch wrist, but even though it theoretically would not have overhang the watches tend to slide some and I can't stand overhang. Size wise the 41 Ceratanium-one is much I better I would say, almost pulled the trigger on one recently myself even though I was in the hunt for the teal Petronas 41 chrono. Due to budget constraints I had to stick with the latter.

    The overseas is 2.5 times the price, so it's an odd comparison. AP, nautilus is 4-5 times the price. The complaint of no micro adjustment on the ingeniur does not make sense if the watch fits you, so you have to try it on. To say the ingeniur doesn't offer anything over mark 20 is not true. I sat down whith both at a boutique with a jewelers loop. The 2 are very different levels of finishing, and that's one of the most expensive ave time consuming processes of watch manufacturing. Ingeniur has hand painted dial with hand finished bracelet done to a holy trinity level. So to say generic could not be further from the truth.

    The other Spitfire bronze which belongs to the Big Pilot family has a twin barrel system which makes it highly accurate even with the 8 day power reserve. Annoyingly tho, the big date is at the 12 o’clock position so you cannot see the date change at midnight when the hands block your view. The geniuses at the IWC design team felt that this was a good idea, and they also felt the need to put the 8 day power reserve display on the back of the watch, making it easier for you to crash the plane if you lost track of time and decided to take your hands off the steering wheel so that you could take off the watch to see how much power reserve was remaining on the watch.

    It’s a great piece, and more are becoming available. It also wears very light for its size. The cost is due to the ceratanium, which has a high failure rate in production. It’s a very difficult metal to mass produce. There are less expensive full titanium or ceramic versions that I think look great, and don’t discount stainless steel. There’s a specific C.03 with black on stainless steel that is a 250 piece limited edition that is stunning.

    There are Chopard Alpine Eagle, GP Laureato, Zenith Defy as competitors when they came up to the price. IWC provides some value in that it was designed by Genta himself while the other 3 are Genta inspired/integrated bracelet for their modern releases. Sure there are arguments that GP and Zenith released their original versions earlier than their counterparts historically, but the new releases borrows heavily on the Genta design elements. So if you compare within that space, I think IWC has some advantages. The other point of contention is the movement - it is borrowed, but a lot of other brands do that as well - Rolex recycles movements - Exp II and GMT, Tudor from Breitling B01, VC for the FiftySix. The borrowed movement provides 100m water resistance, 120 hr power reserve. Again if you compare that to the GP, Chopard, and Zenith - not all of them provide that. I’m not attacking you just providing counter arguments.

    I love and feel your love of IWC man! I've been collecting luxury watches for almost 15 years now, and IWC watches remain very close to my heart. Just something about the brand and their pieces.

    Are the numbers and/ or indices having lume, or only at the 3/6/9? That's killing me on the Mark series, whereas the Big Pilot 43 has a fully lumed dial.

  • @Randyswatches
    @Randyswatches2 ай бұрын

    Yes. However it does not bother me. It’s just to beautiful for me to care. Perhaps a Sinn or Zenith would be more your style.

  • @doukhobar

    Thanks. I have a nice Sinn with excellent lume. Too bad IWC doesn't offer full lume on their 40mm pilots. How do you tell time quickly at night with only the compass points? Even then, the 3 o'clock point wouldn't seem to have any lume at all due to the date? A weird design feature/flaw IMO.

    I have the IW326806 I bought 4 months ago, and I HATE the "EasX-CHANGE system"! I would Much rather have the regular strap. it feels cheap, as it rattles around when you shake it, because the clasp that grabs the spring bar is loose. The first inch on each spring bar end of the strap is Stiff! and doesn't move, making for a band that flares out and doesn't wrap around the wrist tight. This is because of the metal plate in the band on both sides to accommodate the EasX-CHANGE. You are NOT missing out on this proprietary crap band system that's designed to sell expensive watch bands and adds nothing of value that a regular watch band with built in quick release spring bars like Oris and Christopher Ward and other manufactures use. 120 hr movement is nice but this is a daily wear for me so doesn't;t matter and is about 7 seconds or more fast every day and I expected for the price it would be more accurate. Don't get me wrong, this is my FAVORITE watch I've ever owned but the watch band is unusable so I don't use it. and you have NOT missed out. Thanks for your review!

    You bring up a good point, it is a little “rattly”. I think on the spitfire bronze, the brown leather fits so well that it just belongs and should stay. But I’ll say that the Mark XX looks so good on both leather and bracelet, that the ease exchange system is an added bonus. Thanks for your comment!

    I would throw some caution to the IWC perpetual calendars. You can't adjust the calendar backwards if you accidentally move it forward. Or just wait for it to catch up. You would need to send it back to IWC and they charge near $1K to reset. I think you're getting to a point where if you want IWC, it may be worth looking into an Aquatimer to add a diver element unless you really want an office watch, dressed up. I would wait for W&W to happen in a couple of weeks to see what they release next.
