    I find a lot of people understand the basic, most common scenario, but don't realize the part about the ball being onside if two players have moved past the opposition. I've seen so many cases (even a coach recently on the MLS, if you can believe it) of people pointing to the last defender when a pass is made to a teammate behind or in line the ball. Anyway, great explanation.

    💯 and also true in the US. Boys between the ages of 10 - 14 grow differently. One kid might have a size advantage for a period of time, but they all eventually catch up. The bigger kids also have a disadvantage as they end up relying on their size rather than their ball handling skills

    hi for u7 teams what would you say 7 children in a team more than enough? as my sons current coach is trying to add his friends son which would increase it to 8 players. This means my son loses 3 minutes of game time per game....just like to know peoples opinion would you give your childs minutes? or do you think its fair?

  • @CatalanSoccer
    @CatalanSoccer5 күн бұрын

    8 is fine for a squad size, it helps to have extra players available to cover injuries and absences etc. but for a match day 7 players is more than enough players for 4 outfield positions

    Thank you for making this video. I learned a lot from it. I do have one question: could you create a video about how you are laying out the cones? Alternatively, could you recommend a website that explains the reasoning behind your cone layout? Once again, great video and keep up the excellent work.

    I play 4v0 rondos (yeah, no one in the middle yet) with my U9 team. I'm really still focusing on cross-body control and passing, it does take a while with some more than others. I have made it a game though, which group can get the most consecutive touches in 2 minutes time

    Does the banked money add with each time they catch the ball or is it only the highest single number of touches with a catch?

  • @CatalanSoccer
    @CatalanSoccer9 күн бұрын

    Either! In this session we asked the kids for their score at the end of each round, declared a winner then restarted on £0 each round. You can add it all together, or do it where it’s highest single number. Play around with other variations (double money for weak foot) for example.

    One way I found to be really useful with the interventions is to give instructions once and try and figure out concise messages (2-4 words!), that you will then use to remind the players during the practice or game. This way you don't have to stop the action, but you can activate their memory and perception skills to focus on the theme we're practicing

    Some good tips, but I partially disagree on letting parents shout any instructions whatsoever. I was clear with the parents form the beginning "please do not give the kids any instructions, leave that to me! words of encouragement, cheering, yes totally!" and I stand by it. I'm also clear at the beginning that if I'm not myself giving instructions every second, is on purpose, I need to let the kids make decisions on their own, part of their learning, which you briefly mentioned near the end. So for me, is no instructions from parents of any kind, otherwise can get confusing, and can escalate quickly. And I would like to get some help on how to approach parents politely that are not behaving, I'm really a non-confrontational guy, so help or wording greatly appreciated! thanks for the vids, I really enjoy them and have picked up several good tips!

    I know this is late but I loved your "North to America" comments. Living in the US, I definitely understand the genuine advice. I know folks had trouble with this perspective, but I love seeing how constant your movement is during the practice. The kids know you are constantly there to instruct, assess, correct and encourage. Maybe don't make this the standard, but maybe do more videos where you show this perspective sprinkled in??

    My little boy is 9, and you'd think size wise he is 7, as is another boy in his team. Both boys around 125cm tall in shoes. We've played in our 3rd tournament today and lost all 8 games we played in. What I did notice again is, some teams have children who would make under 11s look small, so to put size against size, we were throughout all positions 1 of the smaller teams in attendance. The physical nature of the game, pace, and developement of smaller against larger children on the ball is extremely vast! So what's the answer? Play children according to size not age? You could have a year 6 against a year 3, but the way they both read the game would be different dependant on game time and experience

    I like it! it'd be an interesting idea to include in grassroots league play....... take the match score......same scoring for W/L/D BUT THEN... follow every match with a pk shootout.... maybe you get another pt or two for winning the shootout? so you could lose the match but grab a pt from the pks..... 3 shots each team... if its a draw after 3.... its a draw makes those tied games MUCH MORE interesting! **ALSO! reward these keepers! let them get 1 pt for their team if they can shutout the shootout 🤣

    This wasn’t a paid review or advert. It was a video made to shout about a product that we thought was great for young footballers. The app didn’t have a paid subscription when this video was created over 4 years, and when discuss the product with the creator they had no plans at the time for a paid membership. We might make an updated video that factors these things as well as our thought on their latest product that’s are actually Now a rip off.

    Great glad to see i have been doing this roght. I have been doing this for 15 years on a spread sheet at development level. It works and it's great. Only problem is when a player calls off at late notice and you call in a replacement, you need to manage that, as parents are obsessed with game time 😂 and accusations of favouritism

    Love the session just interested to know the years previous was the main focus technical ability 1v1 etc for these players ? I think for coaches watching it’s 100% important to teach possession but don’t make it the only thing you do players have to be allowed to express and be creative and if you over do the possession and passing you suck that out of players so it’s important to get the balance right between technical ability and possession But at these younger ages technical ability should be prioritised and the Possession stuff sprinkled in every now and then then Don’t make it so you have 7 robots on the pitch that only do what the coach has taught them encourage to try crazy skills and go at players Love the session but very well executed

    Cold-hearted agree that young players need to learn all different positions and develop skills. My son in U8 was stuck at defense in every match just because he was good at defending. These kids are still learning and need to absorb skill sets for different positions.

    Ben is undeniably top class when it comes to coaching....the "ease" at which he communicates and activates the understanding of these concepts with kids is a testament to his passion and the work he's clearly put in to it..... I've been coaching grassroots (U5-U14) for 5 years.....I watched some Catalan Soccer videos a couple years ago.... I think i probably tried to half-heartedly imitate and implement an exercise or two in my practices that i saw in his videos.... at the time, that was all that i was "looking for"...i thought..... I can honestly say that I see all of his content in a different way these couple years later.... .what i love about coaching is that it's a whole new way, for me, to reconnect with or "play" the beautiful game....whole new area for my own development :D Dont be too hard on yourself, take it one practice at a time..... And never forget.... They're 6.....or 7 ...or 9 and half ...or about to be 11.... I've found a lot of value in seeing that they enjoy playing the game <3 Best wishes from North Texas!
