Painting For Your Soul:
I apply my abstract techniques to Art Journal pages to enable you to have a wonderful experience of Art Journaling for your own soul...it is great mindfulness therapy! No drawing skills needed, just let go and enjoy! I find it more rewarding than journaling words. *My goal is to show that you don't need to be a talented artist in order to paint, play, get lost in the moment of mindfulness for your soul. It's just a paper art journal! You will be doing this for YOURSELF. There is no pressure to achieve perfect results. I show fun techniques to get you started. I show how to EXPERIMENT, LET GO and PLAY with the paint, watch how it behaves, LEARN from it. It is a positive & rewarding time that you gift to yourself.
I have been an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists since 2018. My career as a Fashion Designer always involved art and colour, which I now apply as a painter. I believe in the amazing power of our energy.

You are so creative. 👍👍👍I’m jealous
Another great tutorial 😊 I love every single page!
I’m in the second week recovering from hip replacement surgery and feeling well enough to be bored. I’m ready to get back into the studio but need to keep my leg elevated. Thanks for your video!
its great to have a 'tiny' distraction...have fun playing!
Thanks for this wonderful video :)
Love this video. I really like the tissue paper you created and use and can’t wait to try this out. Keep it up. 👍🏻
Your videos are so delightful, thank you !
Thank you for sharing your process !
Extraordinaire
I suffer with sciatic pain too. I admire you pushing through the pain to create and to make this video. Pain is exhausting and saps our creative energy.
I loved the squares, especially after you put the white paint on the centers.
Brilliant video! Thank you so much for this. Love and peace from London UK ❤
I just wanted to let you know that Gamlin’s Cold Wax contains gamsol which means, you should avoid direct contact with skin. I use a wad of cheesecloth to apply and then a clean cloth to buff.
Thanks! Helpful. I will add that to my notes on the video.
You are quite the artist. Lovely pages. Thank you for sharing with us. I'm impressed with the green page. It is simple but what a beauty.
So glad I found you!
Love it!
Thank you Joan for your video.I enjoyed it very much.Loved the colours you chose.🥰🌺

Merci beaucoup 🌸🌸🌸
de rien...Avec plaisir
I really enjoyed the video. I like the way you talk through your process. Is the tissue you use plain or water strength tissue?
plain cheap dollar store tissue
Another great video Joan. I love seeing what can be done with the tissues, très excitement here. I can't wait get me a journal, make some tissues & put high flow in my fineline brush. Thank you again, great videos
don't forget to get a gelli plate! they are soooooo fun!!! you don't need one larger than a sheet of copy paper.....it'll be just fine. best of luck 🙂
I love this video Joan, it's a great idea, one I'm looking forward to getting into. I only discovered your lessons tonight & I love them, thank you for your care & generosity.
Use a waterbrush or water on a round brush, to outline the area of tissue paper you want and it pulls away easily and makes an organic edge!
yes, that works well...it dissolves the tissue nicely.
I've binged watch this entire series today! learned so many new techniques and enjoyed watching these spreads develop. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and amazing journal!
Hi there. Love your little book and ideas. I've had sciatica for 17 years now, uugh. What helps me is swimming. Just gently. It helps stretch and the weightlessness is great relief. Perhaps it will help you as well.
I love the large stencil you used. Perhaps you might know the name of it?
thanks for your question. I did some hunting on the Joggles website and found the mask I think you are referring to: Joggles / Elizabeth St Hilaire The Klimt Collection Mask - Cubes [75011] I also put this info into the notrs on my video. so thanks again, you helped others with your question.
Really like a dream. Very subtle and delicate.
Nice results. Beginnerfriendly. Thank you. 🥰
Inspiring 💐
Just love this! Your artwork is amazing!
Hello!! This is The first video of yours I've seen and so glad for it. Your voice is soothing and uplifting. Your ideas are inspiring. I wish you a beautiful life, surrounded by love and art that makes you happy. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much!
Beautiful ! Thank you ❤
I enjoyed this video very much, Joan. And I will certainly go for the others. The idea of making a soul book is so charming. I can hear my soul sing already. Thank you so much for sharing. 😍 I like to listen to your voice and go with your process. Your new subscriber Britta from Bavaria, Germany 🥰
Love your videos. I’m learning so much. Thank you U.
Just subscribed to you :) I'm painting along with you in my own little book finding my flow for the first time
I can’t tell you how much I loved following this journey with you! Thank you so very much for sharing your creative power with us!❤
Thank you for sharing this wonderful art journal 😊 Can’t wait to see what you will create next!
Wow! Thank you for sharing your gift so freely. You do lovely work…..
Hi I'm loving your videos atm. I have only just discovered you do you use wet strength tissue or any tissue. I'm having a particularly hard time as I lost my hubby 2 weeks ago today and my dad had his last rites today. I'm also suffering from covid and have been unable to create for several weeks. Thanks so much for sharing your process. I look forward to eventually playing with my gel plates and art journal much love and support xxx❤
I do not enjoy wet-strength tissue for my techniques...I use cheap dollar store tissues. I tried acid-free tissue and found it way too wax-like
26:51, You are an excellent teacher of taking a blank page to completion! And, your explanations make me realize that more mindfulness in composition make a pleasing construction. Thank you@
I love your soul book. It just came up on my feed. I’m thinking of a million things I want to try and do one. It’s beautiful
It's so gorgeous!!! Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic! First time I’ve watched your channel and I love your work.
I appreciate the tip of using the blue painters tape behind the spread being worked on. I wish you much success with your channel, as you do a nice job explaining your process along with the different medium you use. Thank you, Joan.
Thank you for sharing especially the part about this is to bring peace and help deal with the daily need for our soul to have time to heal. You are awesome. I am a new Sub I couldnt let your inspiration go! Again Thank You for sharing a part of you!💓💕💖💡💡
Hi just seen your video on my fed. Glad I did. So relaxing to watch you create. Had a little hard time hearing you . Will be watching more videos ❤
thanks for your comment. I purposefully record with the volume on halfway because it irritates me to click on a youtube video that blasts loudly...as so many of them do. I don't want it to be that annoying. I feel it's easier for someone to increase their volume if they need to, rather than turn them off the video right away with a loud voice. Thanks again, Im glad you enjoy the videos :~D
These are great! You mention it can be "any" tissue paper but are you using "wet strength" tissue paper for artists in your demos or the cheapo Dollartree kind you would stuff in a gift bag?
thanks for your question Diane. Absolutely the cheap Dollartree kind you would stuff in a gift bag...YES. I purchased a box of it from the retail-supply wholesaler- the kind stores would wrap your clothing in when you buy it, or stuff in the gift bag (because I also use it to wrap delicate purchases). *Months ago I bought 'Acid-Free' tissue so it would be archival.....it is terrible for my technique- it does not dissolve when I glue it down with matte medium, it is 'crispier' and wax-like. I printed on it and tried to use it and eventually I threw all of that out of my stash. So go buy the cheap soft kind and have fun. it doesn't need to be aechival anyway...its not for a gallery-canvas painting for sale....its just a paper personal art journal ;~)
Thank you for your detailed answer. You are a great teacher, generous in sharing your knowledge, experience, and artistic talent!
Great videos! Love your fun, loose art style. Thanks for the inspiration and art making tips. Mini art journals are especially appealing to me.😃
I’m really learning so much from your tutorials. I finally found my style 😊 I love working in art journals, I’ve never done a canvas as I’m a late bloomer to painting and mixed media (I’m more of a journal maker), but maybe one day if I get brave enough. Thank you 💕
that's the joy of journals...no pressure, just explore!
Another wonderful video with great information. I love your videos! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and time with us.💜
You are so welcome! thank you for your feedback! I do this for you!!!
Hello Joan, Fran here. I love the idea of making white gell prints to add on top of “dud” paintings. Thank you for sharing your ideas 😊 I’m off playing with my gell plate as it’s pouring rain here in BC.
Thanks so much 😊
