I’m happy to see another non-Thai teaching this kick. I remember learning kickboxing in the USA and every coach used a baseball bat analogy (swing wide). I knew better than this because I watch a lot of Thai boxing and I used to do TKD. I wouldn’t want to throw my punch wide so why would I kick wide? Another point to make is how much faster the leg can move straight up before the hip turn vs trying to generate speed laterally. Thankfully I stopped training in the USA and went to Thailand and Cambodia for more training. Now I’m teaching too.
Sometimes learning in phases of development gives the greatest benefit - thinking of the leg as a baseball bat is a good starting point for many, to make sure they're not leaving that leg loose and letting the knee joint release and bounce back on impact. Once they've got the principle of slicing the kick through from the hip like a bat, then you can understand and execute better tightening the angle and making it narrower. Thank you for watching! Hope to hear more from you soon.
Where do you teach
Great job with the golden kick 🥳
❤
Thanks this was super helpful, I got my Thai shorts and I realized my usual boxers are too long, I try em with no underwear and when I do my kicks my jewels are exposed lol.
You now know the struggle. Cover them jewels friend. 🙏

I am 6'7". I have a few pairs of muay thai shorts. In the right position my kicks are not restricted. I'm just wondering if muay thai shorts hug everyone's crotch when you go for a squat? Or something like that. I see many people wearing shorts and they seem to be riding their crotch too. Am I crazy and should I start looking into buying kickboxing or mma shorts?
It can happen, depends on the brand and the cut. Maybe try going up a size or 2
@@EvermoreMuayThai I'm at the max size 😥
Try Fairtex, Top King or Boon shorts. They're cut a little looser front to back
my legs are too small for thai shorts bahahaha
If your legs are too small for Thai shorts especially those from Thailand, and your a guy you really need to start eating some protein & stop skipping leg day. Ordering Thai shorts is one of the biggest frustrations as I am 5'10 & #205 with pretty sold legs & a 32" waist. I wear a Medium in US sizing, but have ordered Thai shorts in XL that have been either huge or disturbingly tight (like going to a club with just the shorts, a whistle, & some molly tight). Sadly the sizing most companies list especially for Thai & Pakistani made shorts isn't a lot of help, but Amazon giving you free returns and quick shipping has allowed us to order a few different sizes and or brands, keep what fits, & return what doesnt.
@@harvestblades 🤣🤣facts we be skipping leg day like crazy

I'm sorry for you, just end looking this because I was looking for herniated disc vlog experiences. I've been practicing kick boxing, muay thai and Sanda for the most part this last one since I was 14, now I'm 33. I was a competitor and planned to be an instructor but luckily I don't due to type 1 diabetes appearance when I was 23. Now I'm struggling with a very big herniated L4 L5 disc extrusion, suffering from sciatica since last december. I'm trying to avoid surgery as the symtoms get a little better over time, and not even had an epidural injection yet. The question I'm wondering all the time is if I could return to martial arts in some form when this whole mess be solved. Please if you have more experiences about, I'd love to hear what you have to say. Thank you for the vid!
Thanks for watching and for your question, sorry to hear you're going through a herniated L4/L5, same disc that's damaged for me. If your symptoms are improving, this would be an excellent time to commit to some therapy exercises with an experienced physical therapist's guidance, to strengthen the muscles surrounding that disc and protect it from getting more damaged over time. I'll post what my therapy exercise routine is later, but we're two different people with two different bodies and what works best for me may not be what works best for you. Spine doctors avoid recommending surgery just as much as we don't want to get it ourselves. Back surgeries are a dice roll, not as reliable as other operations. As far as returning to training, I'd say it comes down to weighing the unhappiness of the pain and immobility versus the unhappiness of not training anymore. I'm not going to quit, but I am going to pin down which exercises improve the mobility and pain of the degenerated disc and do those DAILY, whether my back is having a relatively good day or relatively bad day. It's a chore but it's necessary to reach the goals I've got. Best of luck for your disc, I hope to hear from you again and I hope you stick with your training!
how to defend against the straight right on long guard?
The long guard specifically does defend against your opponent's straight right, as long as you're doing it properly with your arm and shoulder up in the path to foil that punch. This is one of the primary functions of the guard.
@@EvermoreMuayThai can I use the long guard in boxing if my opponent is same size as me?If yes then do I stay out of range or my extended arm distance?
@@ko-kf2nu Mess around with it in sparring, hopefully with a sparring partner who's going light/light-medium with you. When you put the guard up, you're hard to hit. You can put it up when you're out of range and use it to create an entry, or you can pop it up when you're in range already to foil your opponent's punches and counter back. Lots of ways to utilize it.
@@EvermoreMuayThai is it even possible to prevent a 4 punch combination in a long guard from same reach size opponent?I dont think so.If u were a boxer and use this style a lot would u be in range and use this against same size fighter or shorter opponent?
@@ko-kf2nu It's more effective if you have the reach advantage, but that's no big surprise, tons of things are more effective if you have the reach advantage. It's not a magical shield, no, if you sit with it up and your opponent throws a long combo and you don't play defense with your gloves then you can be hit. But it can also be very effective if you practice it versus live attacks and learn how to use it and play off of it for counters.
What’s up man? Excited to see what the future has in store! But very glad to see you have those good vibes going in, and speaking from experience of my first surgery I was also a bit nervous about it but nah it’s going to go great man! I wish you a fast recovery and again very excited for the future. Sending love and good vibes my man
