    I live in rural vermont and contemplated getting a generator. After comparin̈g costs I went with a solar setup, panels, controllers and batteries that allow about 4 days worth of power storage. I built and installed system myself and after tax credits I spent 10K dollars. After 1 year I am so happy with my system and I save $150 per month on utility costs. For me it's a nobrainer.

    We had a tornado on May 15th here in Houston. Our Generac whole house natural gas generator ran for 6 days continually. Every 2 days I would shut it down and check the oil level. After the 6 days of running I changed the oil and filter. Generac says do this every 200 hours. The next month we got our natural gas bill. We subtracted our normal use from our 6 days of generator running. It came to $24.00 per day to run our Generac 20kw generator. That's a lot cheaper than finding a $150 motel that is charging $300 per day.

    I’m a kitchen and laundry appliance contractor and been in business for 29 years, and I’ve seen the changes taking place in the appliance industry - it isn’t for the better. I’m a sole-proprietor, one man show and I’ve diagnosed about a dozen refrigerators within the last month, all less than a year old with locked up compressors using R600a. I’m talking $3000+ retail units! And the customer thinks their 5 year compressor/sealed system warranty is a silver lining. Well, is it, because when the factory authorized vendor says you need a complete swap out, guess what he’s bringing you in three weeks? THE SAME COMPRESSOR THAT JUST FAILED YOU IN LESS THAN A YEAR! The EPA has over-stepped their boundary!

    @@threedog22 I would like to run my theory passed you. On conventional refrigerant systems no matter what refrigerant was used, there was a large volume of refrigerant compared to these new refrigerants. As we all know during the refrigeration cycle, oil is naturally going to be pumped out of the compressor into the system. With the flow of refrigerant that oil will eventually make it back to the compressor. I believe with these new refrigerants there is not enough volume of refrigerant to bring the oil back to the compressor and I think that what is happening is these compressors are slowly pumping all of their oil out and they're basically being run dry of oil and that is causing them to fail.

    EPA is the driving force shoving flammable refrigerant down our throat. For many years refrigerants had to be non toxic and below a certain flammability point scale which basically made them non-flammable. EPA very quietly without letting anyone in the general public know of this change in policy requiring manufacturers to use flammable refrigerants.

  • @Bbernhardsr

    When they eliminated hydrochlorofluorocarbons such as R-12, R-22 etc they eliminated the problem there. R410A, R134A etc do not hurt the atmosphere. They say that there is a higher GWP on these refrigerants but I consider global warming to be made up fantasy.

    In my opinion: You may want to sell off that Dodge van. Looks like a 3.6L Pinstar Italian collaboration engine. Their oil filter housing loves to crack being plastic & the rocker needle bearing go bad around 78K miles or so making their iconic "Pinstar tick" noise. The Italian investors pulled out of the US market because of all the problems that followed all their Dodge, Chrysler & Mopar engines. Pretty hard to tell Charger & Challenger fans their hemispherical engines are crap no matter how many times their oil filter housing splits open. Typically you have to replace rockers & cams on Pinstar engines & shouldn't ever follow the manufacturer's 5W-20 (Ford engineered oil) engine oil specification. Go with 10W-30. 5W-20 isn't used world wide mind you for obvious reasons. It runs off parts down in the pan & evaporates quicker than 10W-30 or 10W-40.

  • @Bbernhardsr
    @BbernhardsrАй бұрын

    Thanks but I like my Pentastar. I replaced the rockers myself with Melling units around 140K. My oil filter housing never split because I never tightened it down like a Neanderthal. The heat finally warped it around 180K and I replaced it with an all aluminum unit. It transfers heat better than the plastic unit. She runs great with 207K on the clock and running great. I use the 5W-20 regular non synthetic and replace it every 5K.
