I appreciate this anthropological lens on ritual, specifically criticizing rituals that commemorate the violent establishment of chiefdoms and contrasting those myths and ceremonies with the Christ story and Easter. For gongfu cha, one connection would be the cha chong. While they don't appear in all tea ceremonies, they are offered the rinse and first steep ritualistically. Do you think this has any connection to Chinese cosmology or represents a mythological tension?
@TeaMasters2 ай бұрын
Interesting. I never use a cha chong. I was also wondering why people would do it. It looks like mimetic imitation of an archaic sacrifice. As if this offering to the god (of tea) would make the tea session more peaceful!
@tkgawa2 ай бұрын
@@TeaMasters - My friend refers to them jokingly as "tea gods" and that seems to be the association. The historicity of cha chongs is up in the air for me since there doesn't seem to be very much literature. When I started gong fu last year, I bought a Guan Yu cha chong for Shu Pu'er and Heicha; a Guan Yin for Tie Guan Yin; and a little astronaut for High Mountain Oolongs. I have them as a matter of habit and setting for drinking those teas.

I really appreciate this video on tea as an aid in reconciling with past traumas or discomforts. I also recognize the vulnerability necessary to talk about childhood trauma involving a blood based disease and having to be sent off to a specialized hospital. Though not a childhood trauma, I am reminded of my second deep vein thrombosis, which I was diagnosed with last March and from which I have since recovered. My interest in gongfu cha and the finer details of specialty tea has developed during my recovery from the DVT.

However,the lesson I learned regards a Yixing teapot that I have,dating back to 1970s. I always pre heated by pouring hot water INSIDE first. I am lucky that I have not damaged my most precious teapot! I shall always pour outside first,I cannot thank you enough for that advice,alongside Oolong brewing tips.

@TeaMasters6 ай бұрын
