Are you new in Denmark? Or, are you just visiting the country for the first time?
I created this channel to educate and teach about Danish culture, way of life, and to serve tips and tricks on life in Denmark and Copenhagen. I want to be your Danish friend or guide, who can lead you to a much richer understanding of Danish life and Danish history and culture.
As a Dane, I know the ins and outs of Denmark and Danish culture. I lived abroad for several years, and thus I can compare my experience out there with life here. My views on Denmark and living in Denmark are not that Denmark necessarily is the best place for everyone. There are many reasons not to move here. But I like it here. You need to watch the videos to find out why.
Also, check out my TikTok channel 'Expattips.dk' and the website expattips.dk, where you can find more tips.

That is why you should never accept an invitation just to be polite. People are far more accepting of you declining than you cancelling in the last moment or even worse not showing up. And remember if they invite you for 6pm, you should be there at 6pm.
It depends a lot about where and how you talk about it, and it is nonsense that it is a taboo. You should most definitely discuss your salary with your coworkers, to make sure nobody is short-changed by the employer. But you should not use it as a flex with your Danish friends, as they will not be impressed by a high salary. And only your bank and the tax agency are interested in knowing your net worth.

Tbh, I find this true of almost all tourist attractions. You go and take a photo simply to say you were there 🤷🏻♂️. Meaningless.
Uhh no? Its to expierence historical mythological unique locations. The photo part is for egocentric people.
@@nyverdaletabletop1674 Before the internet and smartphones that may have been true. If you want to see a photo of the Little Mermaid you’ll find a much better one on line. Not sure whether you’re old enough to remember a world before the Internet? I’m not saying it was better… but going abroad and visiting places based purely on word-of-mouth or images in magazines/ movies, and then taking a photo (not a selfie 😂) of the landmark with a camera containing an old-fashioned film cartridge; which then needed developing before knowing whether you took a decent photo or not! 😂 only to find your finger obscuring part of the top right hand corner of the photo…. I’m not saying it was better. Just different... Back then we were less well informed (negative) but it was more of an adventure (positive).
So true. I also like going more for the ‘feeling’ or ‘atmosphere’ of being in a particular place. That’s why I think CPH’s main attraction is actually just the biking experience 😀
And why should you care about why tourists still go to this Danish landmark Dude?. They go there, spend lots of money, boosting the Danish economy. So what's your problem, dudette???

If I'm going to live in Denmark then I'll have to learn English and Danish because at the moment I'm using Google Translate. Hugs!!!
Denmark is a fairly good place to learn English 😊
@@DenmarkXplained you natives are edcated I like that
I intend to live in Copenhagen...but making friends is very difficult even if I'm Brazilian...who knows, maybe I'll meet good and trustworthy people!!
Most likely you will if you put in the effort 😀
how inaccurate is the following statement?: 'Expats don't usually get their deposit back'
I’d like to know this as well.
Subscribed! Visited Copenhagen last summer on the way to Silkeborg for a family reunion. My family and I love Denmark. Thanks for the videos
No dont move to denmark, if you dont wanna learn our language.
well salaries in copenhagen is like 20/25 % higher that in the rest of denmark if you have a salery of 46,000 it would be alot outside copenhagen - and remember tax is from 50 to 65 % and if you dont work the goverment gives you around 15,000 pr month

Du får altså ikke ret meget bolig for 6.000,- kr her i Kbh. Hvor har du det tal fra? Jeg har selv boet her i 20 år, og husleje inkl. varme, el, vand og internet ryger hurtigt over 7.000,- /md for 50 m2, og jeg bor i _udkanten_ af kommunen...!

My name is Rabbi, and I'm a professional Digital Marketing expert an KZread SEO expert . I have visited your channel and saw that most of the things were good, and your contents are also good. But, the saddest thing is your videos are not getting the audience reached... If you want to grow your KZread channel, so I can help you about that.
I have watched a few of your videos and it is fun to see in how many aspects Danes and Dutch are alike. But don't confuse us with one another! ;-) It's like comparing Italians with the Spanish.
Which shop is your favourite? Mine is Pedersen
This cinnamon role is from Sankt Peders Bageri - and it was really good. But Wulff & Konstali is probably my current favorite 🙂
@@DenmarkXplained hehe i meant sankt peders yes
Thank you!!!
You are welcome 🙂
Can you do austria?
I don't know much about Austria, so I will let other people weigh in on that one 🙂
oh my😔
Did you say that accommodation cost was for a ‘shared’ room? So not a whole apartment?
Hi John. It is for a private room, but in a shared apartment - typically. You cannot get a whole apartment for that kind of money. Or, actually you can, but you have to be on waiting lists for many many years, or know someone etc. etc.
Horrendous.
I want to move in denmark next year
Sounds great! Good choice of country ;-)
@@DenmarkXplained txt bro!!
@@DenmarkXplained thx bro
very informative video, im new on your channel,i plan to move denmark as a health care professional(nurse)which city is best as a new commer, cheapest residence, near to language schools etc
Hi Abdulhakim. There are many smaller hospitals in the towns outside Copenhagen, Odense, and Aarhus. E.g. Ringsted og Nykøbing Falster. Those could be good. Also, they will provide you with the language training as far as I know.
@@DenmarkXplained thanks sir guide me
København NV isn't even on your radar 😭 But Frederiksberg is, and it's its own municipality (even though yes, I would always include Frederiksberg in Copenhagen). I feel NV is often unappreciated or has a bad rep, unfortunately. But it has changed a lot, and has some really nice qualities - especially if you wish to live in a quieter area or closer to nature spaces (Bispebjerg Kirkegård, Utterslev Mose).
Yes, true. NV could maybe be 'included' in a review of Nørrebro - the quiter Nørrebro 🙂
Helt sikkert arbejde lidt med lyden :D
Ja, min RØDE mic svigtede mig under denne optagelse, så der skulle en del post-production fixfaxerier til at få den på ret kurs :-/
Do they sell food in Netto?!
CAN I AFFORD TO LIVED IN DENMARK IF MY PENSION IS $1,200 A MONTH?
I don't know if you can. Can you? And in that case, where do you live in the country? The differences in terms of cost of living are significant.
$1.00 = 7 Danish Crown. $1,200 × 7 = 8,400 Danish krone. Is this not sufficient enough for a Single Person to live in Denmark?
@@user-rm1zw7so2c That don't sound like much. In the video I recommend 13,000 DKK after tax to be the minimum if you want to live fairly comfortable in Copenhagen - and that is still in the low end depending on your options for accommodation.
That means I need $!,857.14 every month in order to live comfortably well in Denmark. 13,000 Danish Crown ÷ $7.00 = $1,857.14. Right!!!
@@user-rm1zw7so2c Yes that's about it.
very nice try.
Danes never invite people home.
True, it happens very rarely, unless you have good friends with extra time on their hands, i.e., no kids :-D
Thank you! I Agree with you on all points with a little explanation here. I am a Danish citizen, and have lived here for more years than out. I absolutely ADORE the Danish language and Danish smørbrod! I have no problem reading, listening to Danish, but unfortunately I butcher the language when I open my mouth. We (ex) Americans are bad that way, Germans have no problem at all. Yes most Danes can speak English, but when a shopkeeper automatically switches over to English I stubbornly just continue in Danish. Also talking on the phone with, f.ex. the electric company, city, county authorities. Everywhere. I have made a few close Danish friends, we speak only Danish. My friends with English as first language and I speak of course together in English., but to switch to Danish if there should be a Dane present. You are right. Life here is a total commitment and has been for me from day one--knowing I will always be foreign. But that is ok. I love it here. :0) !
Hi Marti. Sounds great, and you probably also reap the benefits now of your stubborn language practice in terms of understanding 'what is really going on', what people chat about in lunch breaks, humor etc. 🙂 I think you are right that it's necessary to just stick to it and continue speaking Danish in conversations forcing the Danish counterpart to take it slow and listen - of course only when you yourself has achieved a certain Danish level.
Thank you! However, I Still butcher the language verbally. It really upsets some Danes . They say my Danish sounds like a movie cowboy :0), but I just laugh and stubbornly continue. That really upset some, others just are amused along with me. As you have pointed out, living in Demark is a life long investment and commitment.@@DenmarkXplained
singing make muscles better to coop with new positions. i see results imediatly, 5 min or so, do the older danish, 70 ish, kim larsen is a good one to listen 2. and like in other contries, every place/town has it own charme, but we are pretty "save" and thats why we are so........hm settlet, dont come and make waves, dull, very country side living and now with this all digital shit, we have no time to be curious. and no service interact with real pbl, no one takes responsebillity for anything anymore, but thats all over the globe.
Expat? Not immigrant?
Expat as in a person, who's not in their home country (ex-patria) - but not necessarily intending to stay in the new host country like an immigrant.
most of this describe zealand and not jutland. BUT most ppl that dont live in denmark wants to move to copenhagen so it is valid :)
Thank you for the tips, very helpful.
You are welcome!
Realy appreciate your effort, 👍
Thank you 🙂
No one cares your all Dutch to us
Dont worry my guy, i can promise you as an english person, i shout english at everyone equally
Unrelated to the video, but amazing view!
Unfortunately it's not a Danish view - It's from Tarcento in Northern Italy. Truely an amazing place!
@@DenmarkXplained Good to know! Though I would be happy to see a Danish view as well 🥰 Urban or nature orientated.
From a Dutch perspective, same here 😂 It's getting old trying to explain it every time (both Danish and German)...
🙂 I always thought that The Netherlands would be somewhat more known in the world and for that reason not have the same problem 🙂
That link cannot open 😢

Socialism there and open borders sucks...

Thank you 🙂
After almost 12 years in Denmark i can write a compendium about how you can not make friends in Denmark . 🤭😁😉
Would certainly be interesting to hear some of those stories 🙂
It's most likely a problem about yourself... What have you tried...?
@@minutsi it s just do not work it for me and it is Ok for me now, i live in my own bubble😉😁 . Danish population is an homogenous , tribal population dominated by ,, Janteloven ,, and just by being different, non-conformist , not in the line with them you are ,, wrong ,, They are very brainwashed by they own politicians. Danish have an tendency to exclude, even Danish are excluding each other , and in my opinion they are suffering from the small country complex. They are very afraid not ,, loosing ,, their culture , tradition , language so one. ( because of the size of the country ) Last but least Denmark , danish people met late in their History other cultures , foreigners, immigrants . In the 1960’s came in Denmark the first immigrants ( turks came to Denmark for work) So because Denmark is a small sized country , with a small homogen population , and danish population met other different cultures late in their history, it is still hard for the most of danish to think globally. Is a little bit funny , I remember the period with Brexit , it was also a wave here in Denmark to leave EU. But danish have seen how ,,fucked up,, is now UK economy because of Brexit, and they forget now about Dan-exit 😉😁. Og hvis du er dansker denne refleksion , min refleksion er også til dig. Det er bare min subjektiv mening om dit land og mere specifik jer danskere … no hard feelings…😉😁😊
The first picture is from Copenhagen and not typical for Denmark at all. We live all over in smaller towns and the landskape between is a lot of farming. We are many islands and fjords. Its very visible. By that we also has a lot small and bigger bridges added ferries here. The rest of the video is very well done and not a tourist cartoon + + +
Thank you, Jens 🙂
I have a tip. Study the language very much, especial in the start, study hard. Your workmates and neighbours will notice your progress. Danes knows the language is hard, so we get impressed when we hear people are progressing in the language. Impress the Danes with your progress. One day I got a new neighbour, she spoke Danish very badly. So we often spoke English. Then I found out she has been living here for 14 years. I was very disappointed, and we didn't meet as much any more. I had lost the interest in sitting drinking tea and just chat, I was annoyed it had to be in English, without any chance it could become Danish in the future. We are still cool, but close friends we will never be. Do what you can to learn Danish, and keep on learning, so maybe I will not turn my back on you, but instead help you. Help yourself, learn the language. Tip! I saw a guy, here on YT, who had problems remembering what things are called in Danish. So he put posters on he's stuff in the apartment. I think it is genius. Good luck!
Hi Gert. The language is a highway to understanding a culture. I agree completely - it's so important to learn the language of country you live in.
it is wery dificult to gome back to denmark after years abrod to take eksambel it took me 2 years to open my bankaccont and to gt id to ofifial info it tok 2,3 years ewerythnig is digitel and dificult togett into
True. I think the digitalisation has been more difficult for many than is currently being reported on by the media.
Tak you. Your session is very informative. My dear friend, Can you educate me on social work that I can do after my job.
Thank you very much. 'Besøgsven' is a nice initiative, where you can visit elderly people and talk with them so that they don't feel lonely. Some elderly also speak English and like to have foreign visitors as well.
Where are you from, and where are you staying here in Denmark 🇩🇰
