Jon Jones didn't prove that he is even better when he fought Cyril Gane for the Heavyweight title. Only if you talk about being better in the intelligence aspect (fight IQ). He was smart, knowing that Cyril Gane doesn't have a ground game, and took the fight to the easiest path to victory. For me, to prove that Jones was even better than before was to beat Cyril in his own game (striking, kickboxing). Jones just wants to extend his legacy, so he wants the easy fight with Stipe, who is old, hadn't fought in 3 years and his last was a KO loss to Ngannou. I am sure that after Jones beats Stipe (if that fight really happens!!), Jones will retire "unbeaten". He wants to avoid Aspinall at all cost. He doesn't want to have new "real" challenges. He doesn't want to end his career on a bad note, being beaten (and most probably finished) by Aspinall. He doesn't want that GOAT status being stained by a young guy that is not yet that famous. It is too risky.
