Interesting, Im in New Zealand and have had a hell of a time trying to find suitable oils for my Emco lathe. Like you I can usually get the recommended oils but only in huge quantities, 20L mostly. I had been using gear oil in my spindle but recently found a spindle oil, I was really surprised how thin it is. I was really suspicious but did a lot of checking and it appears to be correct so I used it and what a change. I had previously found one 5L container of Way oil after years of looking, until then I had been using chain saw, chain oil. It didn't seem to cause any problems and it didnt run off the ways but the correct way oil is smoother running for sure. Seems incredible its so hard to get machine oils is reasonable quantities, its not like there isn't a market.

I’ve got a Clark 1027 and I can’t get the chuck out. Also do my jaws need to be in the machine when doing this? My jaws don’t like going in all together and yes that’s problematic.… haha help

I haven't needed to use the old tap and die for some time, but I have never liked the idea of using a handheld drill to do what should be a precise practice. I guess I will use the drill press from now on.

Im considering a quick change tool post! I like the fact that you did all the milling on a lathe! I don't have a mill , but I do have a milling attachment for my 9" south bend, i wonder i could still do a t-nut? I do have milling bits but no collets yet.. lol

Great video. Concise while thorough plus no needless and irritating music to wade through. Thank you, Man in the Mask, because it immediately helped me get the vintage 1/2 Jacobs chuck off an old USA made corded drill that finally died after 4 1/2 decades of use.

I have a pair of old brass lamp from the 60's. They were my parents. I polished them up and the shiny gold turned to gray. I had used a magnet before I started cleaning it up, and it did not stick. Why is the gold coming off if it is brass? I didn't know who to go to, and thought I would ask you since you seem to be very knowledgeable.

What kinds of BBQs or burners have you bought in the past? I've been BBQing and grilling and smoking, etc etc etc, for 50+ years and never had a burner give out after a couple of years. I've never known of this happening to anyone I know, either. I am very curious what equipment you have used in the past where this kind of breakdown is normal.

New grills suck. I see burners rot out in 5 years easily. It also depends on how often you use it, the environment, etc.

I brought a 200$ abrasive saw today just to cut aluminum and instantly return it because it’s a pos. It bend, bind , slow and over heat metal and aluminum, it bind itself on the saw , and best of all its doesn’t cut straight 45 no matter what I try. Metal then it’s too slow and overheat. And it left bunch of birch sizes double the material width on every walls. Hercules from harborfreight. Turns out my old blue ryobi with new wood blade cut aluminum like butter quick and cold except for the shaving flying everywhere

I am very interested in calipers and how to get accurate measurement of watch crystals. Experts recommend taking a few measurements to be sure. But if the arms of the caliper can only measure the diameter, then why aren't all the measurements exactly the same? (This question is because I am having difficulty with using the calipers.) Thanks!

Awesome video! I literally said "wow!" out loud at the mirror finish. Now I am just a humble housewife (Escape rooms Games Master part time) & I am polishing up some pure brass kitchen pots I have which look really scummy. Here in the UK was use Brasso polish, which I have been using, but its dirty, messy & VERY hard work! My question is: Can I use your method (sanding & abrasion) on my kitchen pots, to get this shine? I ask because I understand my pots surfaces may have been treated with things during manufacture, & I don't want to ruin them. Anyway thanks for the superb video!

I need to do this to the tee nut for my new QC tool post. Was thinking I had to use a milling machine (which I don’t have) but now I see I can do this on my lathe, which is wonderful news! The lathe I recently received is a Sheldon 11 by 44 from 1946, and the lantern style tool post is its chief weakness.

I have no words to say thanks!! I have this old Kodak Brownie camera with an opaque, scratched plastic lens, and I wasn't sure if I should polish it. I was scared to ruin it completely. But I followed this advice and it worked! I used jewelry spray polish and a piece of that microfiber cloth for cleaning glasses. Thank you!
