  • @PPGKyle

    Personally I can hold 17L of gas, I burn about 6L/hr. I could stretch to 2 and a half hours but as you maneuver, climb power, increase RPM, the burn changes. Other motors can get way more efficient but much more expensive/heavier, or even lower HP so its a tradeoff. My flights are about 1.5hrs on average and I only take about 10L total because it gets really heavy.

    What does the speed bar do?

  • @PPGKyle
    @PPGKyle15 күн бұрын

    Speed bar is just a bar with a line that connects to your risers through a series of pulleys and decreases the overall angle of attack of the glider. It pulls the leading and middle lines downwards forcing the angle to decrease and gain lots of speed. Not everyone uses it just due to it being slightly more mechanically complicated but has a lot of benefits. Just requires more power and higher fuel burn to be on it for long periods of time, and tired legs!

    I subscribe to csmith and seen this flight. Was cool to see it through your view going through those maneuvers! Our flying styles are similar and was looking at upgrading wings to either the Nucleon 4, Drift air, Hadron 3, or Viper XC? How long you been flying? I'm in my 4th year/160 flights and have just been stumped on a next wing

  • @PPGKyle
    @PPGKyle28 күн бұрын

    What are you on now? Driftair, H3, Viper are all "3rd Step" wings Nucleon/Sirroco are 2nd step. And the Solo, Spyder, roadster 3 are T1. I wouldn't recommend going from 1 to 3. Driftair is my next glider but you'd be surprised how much you'll gain from a Spyder to a Nucleon/Sirroco. It was definitely noticeable. I don't think it would have been smart if I went from Solo to Driftair. That's a big jump. I'm waiting a bit, probably to the end of the season to upgrade as this Nucleon really offers a lot. That being said Drifty is my next (3rd) wing hands down.

    @@PPGKyle My first and only wing is a Flow Cosmos Power and I'm 153kg all up with 15L of fuel on a 160kg max for the glider. I'm very fast on it and it's pretty agile, same speed as my flying buddy on a 85% loaded Hadron 3. The more research I do, the more confused I get. Roper recommended a Drifty, Ripman said a Nucleon, and Minyard told me a ITV Baja. 3 very experienced pilots and 3 categories of wing??? Any insight is appreciated and really the only reason I want to change is my wing is now on it's 4th season. Keep up with the videos and thanks for the reply! I want something safe, very agile, fast, and lifty if there is such a wing? My wing takes a lot of throttle to maintain flight resulting in 6-8 liters per hour of fuel burn and doesn't climb very fast.

  • @PPGKyle
    @PPGKyle27 күн бұрын

    @@shanewyman9419 I trust both Ripman and Roper. Matt will always recommend ITV but full disclosure I am not familiar with ITV, Flow, BGD, etc. Only Ozone and Dudek. Not sure where yours sits on the "Tiers list". It dosnt sound like a very efficient glider though, at all.... That being said, you're getting different recommendations as its hard to gauge your exact experience level from a few online conversations. We dont want to say "yeah go driftair" and then you launch and youre like "woah this is spicy..." I'd say this; if youre out there every day hitting those wingovers real deep, getting the glider below you, deep spirals, moving into the barrel roll region, and overall prefer to rip around low level, crank and bank, use that PA system on bar - then Drifty is for you (This is how I prefer to fly, hence why Im going to get one) If youre more an explorer, going out for an hour or two, low level flying, efficiency, but still have the ability to play around really well, then a Nucleon 4 or Hadron is your best bet. (Maybe Viper XC but its not as agile as an H3). N4 is a step below the H3 and Drifty so expect if you go to either of those wings it will be a pretty noticeable "woah it takes very little input to get a LOT of bank" And theres always the fact that the higher you go, the greater awareness of collapse recovery you need. Long story long, I love my Nucleon4 and it was a great noticeable step up from the Solo in speed, efficiency and maneuverability. Ive put it through the paces. Im sure the drift air as I increase my loading will be even more sensitive. This probably didnt help you much, I'm just 1 of many folks out there, and only a few years under my belt. You'll just need to determine whats more important to you; efficiency, speed, agility?

  • @shanewyman9419
    @shanewyman941926 күн бұрын

    @@PPGKyle helps a lot actually. I think the best thing would be to try and demo a Nuke 4, H3, and a drift air to see. The Nuke or Hadron would probably fit the bill as I will also fly hands off and try to cover ground but I find myself yanking and banking as I get bored. My wingover progression is getting better and better, I practice every flight with the goal of barrel rolling but may save that for an SIV. I do a lot of spiraling but am also very cautious on how steep I go as I know the consequence of getting too steep.

    Fantastic wing. Leaps and bounds from the Dudek Solo 24m. It really gets playful, 2D steering is great, I've gotten some real steep spirals and wingovers, and its faster trimmed in/out so I can keep up with friends while staying in maneuvering range. And suuuper easy launching. Dudeks launch different but I haven't had an issue yet. I'll be doing a review video soon now that I've got about 5 hours on the wing. Great progression from the Solo while still cutting through turbulence and passive safety. 🤘

    I'm glad you like yours. Mine is an absolute flaming pile of garbage. Bluetooth volume is way to low/un-useable. No one can hear me when I am trying to talk on the radio to them. Waste of $$$ but really the only option we have at the moment.

  • @PPGKyle
    @PPGKyle10 ай бұрын

    Not many options out there is definitely a pain. It's definitely got some shortcomings. Haven't tried taking over the radio yet but over the phone everyone seems to think it sounds fine believe it or not. It's tough because our market is so small that nobody wants to invest to make a truly all in one good headset. But I think this is one of the better options available that's fully integrated. I have my complaints for sure like the noise reduction and the audio quality itself. But for what's available without DIY, it's not a bad option.

  • @abnormallygifted1541

    seeing this video my first thought in imagination went to the same kind of communication motorcycle riders use. In saying that I don't know how much you communicate with pilots or anything or if it's just amongst your friends. But that may be a cheaper and good route to go or try to use. Haven't never done this but always wanted to. Only problem I have is a fear of heights😂
