Just started playing BF solo after my last game of DnD 40yrs ago. Loving it !!! I get hard copies which is great. My question is, is there BF version of DnD's "Dieties and Demigods" ? If not, is there a suitable (cheap) alternative ? Im not paying $60+ for an old DnD version. Thanks to anyone that answers.

Thank you for a very good explanation for why different versions have different values for descending AC. The Basic Fantasy '20 minus' design choice is clearer now and one I appreciate. I joined the hobby long after ascending AC was implemented, and 'to-hit' tables will always feel like unnecessary complications for me.

Oh good. At least the MM was not gaslighting me. LOL (I started out in D&D in the late-'80s with Modva'sy Basic as my PHB, and I also had the MM and DMG, so at the time I was a little confused by "AC 10", among other things) Years ago, in my games, I did (more or less) the same with Basic Fantasy by issuing out Attack Bonuses. In may case, I issued out +1 AB to 1st level Fighters while Magic-Users and Thieves get nothing to reflect their lack of combat ability at low level. Also, dont get me started on Saving Throws! (More so, the differences B/X and AD&D. LOL)

I'm sorry to hear about this situation. it's pretty gross. Just to name a few... 40K, Star Wars, DC, Marvel, and even grand wizards of the coast who destroyed dnd since 4e. All their books are just chock full of this modern rhetoric, and its the primary reason why they complain when fans and customers dont buy their stuff. Common sense methods, such as pulling the gm aside and layout your concerns, are and always have been the way me and my group and I have done things since i first got into ttrpgs. There was none of this checklist, or hold up an X card crap. If you were that immature, you could not voice the opinion as a group, or were that sensitive, maybe this game, or, at the very least, that group was not for you. Seriously, you see this being spouted from more of these nutjobs who want "fluidity" and "pronouns."" Thankfully, I've walked away from any group that gave off this vibe, and over time, they all fell apart in weeks. Chris, I love your work and have MANY of your books, both pdf and physical. I like the measured stance you took with it, and i do not have an issue with them in theory. I just do not think they work all that well for what they tend to be used for. It is trying to garentee a result in a conversation before talking to the other people; ie, i can not have any plans to have children getting hurt, but the party might capture the bad guy's kid and decide it is a wiz bang idea to hold them randsom. Is that violence, do they expect to have the npc not try to escape so they are not "forced" to stop them, and does that mean they are not going to smash those dragon eggs? This involves a conversation that probably needs to happen as it comes up, but the checklist gives an impression that is not nessicarily shared with the members of the group. It is why everyone still argues about allignment.

I think studying real religions is useful for inspiration to make in-game religions more interesting, not necessarily to create an exact parallel. For example, early European travelers considered Tibetan Buddhists to be demon worshipers because Tibetans would propitiate the representations of "bad" things such as natural disasters in the hope that these spirits would be pacified; this gives us a motivation for the Evil Cult that is much more relatable to the players than "bad cultists worship bad god because they're bad" and gives a plot hook for the party to find a different (and hopefully more permanent solution) to a Famine Spirit visiting the remote village.
