l love my M10 as well, the only issue for me is the sharp edges body design. I scratched my fingers while trying to to pull the iso knob up due to the sharp corners

I agree that the 24mp sensors are the sweet spot for digital photography. Some claim more than 24mp`s can add too much "digital" in a photo. I shot with a Nikon F2 for years but the price of film with development and long shipping times made me reconsider. I wanted a Leica digital camera and decided on a Leica MD-262 after watching a video made by Thorsten Overgaard. I love film cameras and shooting film and the Leica MD gets me as close to the film experience as possible...!

I randomly found this movie and I wanted to share some thoughts about it, hope you don't mind :) I absolutly love the look of this movie, the cold atmosphere is very much visible and fits the mood perfectly, I also like that you change the aspect ratio depending on the time in which the scene takes place I think the title is very well chosen. The Actors are authentic and fit the roles. I can tell that many thoughts flew into this project, it really has quality The only thing I don't quite get is why the protagonist exactly behaved like this, I don't think his anger is understandable for me as a viewer and I also don't quite get why he is putting himself in to the police, why does he suddenly take responsability? He coldly murdered 3 people without thinking too much about it and he didn't seem sorry, but more like a cold killer. But english is not my first language, I'm not sure if I missed something important. And the reaction of his parents could have been a bit more extreme, they seemed a bit to chill to me. first I also didn't understand that he stole stuff from the other dude (consoles and all that) and why his clueless friend went there with him just to wait in the car. Maybe the film didn't need this scene with the stealing because it moved on very fast without really looking back at what happend just there in this scene. Some sequences with slow motion seemed a bit too long, but I get if that was the vibe you were going for and it does fit the film very well. The music was fantastic, it wasn't to loud and it was very fitting the vibe was perfect. The visual language was very cool, my favorite shot was at the party where the protagonist stares at his "friend" talking to the girl and you can really tell that he's extremly angry, I also love the lighting of all scenes. The Police Officer was very cool, it was a nice way of telling what happend, before it happend and keeping some sort of mystery. Overall I would say its a very well made movie and I would love to see more like this. Please note that the negativ stuff I mencheond is really me complaining on a very high level, overall I really think its more positiv then negativ and i just thought you might like to also hear my negative thoghts as well, I'm a young filmmaker myself and can really understand the difficultys and complexity of such a project. You did great! Keep on doing this stuff :)

Hey thank you so much for all that you shared. It is kind of a bizarre story. Because as it said in the title sequence this was actually based on true events. And it happened near my home town in Alabama. So that’s why it might not make as much sense bc this is how life is. It’s messy. The killer really did go home and tell his parents bc he wanted to play it off as self defense but I read the court readings from the actually trial and the prosecution had detective evidence that it went down a different route. And it was over 30or40 dollars worth of weed and he did go really early in morning to rob their house. But I agree with you that the idea could have been fleshed out more and the screenplay could have been lengthened to tell a deeper fuller story. It was made in 2019 and I have grown a lot as a filmmaking since then. Check out the trailer for ‘The Hunted’ that I made this year. It should be my two latest videos on this channel. Anyways, Thank you so much for watching, really happy you enjoyed my film.

Buying a camera just for rental purpose is a bit silly to be honest. It's 2024 right now and you can rent it for 450€/day (so I guess it's even cheaper in dollars). In the real estate business it's the opposite, you ll get more years after years. (Btw sorry if my English is not perfect, it's not my first language). For exemple you can find a ARRI ALEXA mini (full kit) for 18000€ in 2024. And ask your rental company, they will always say that if you want to invest for a rental purpose, simply choose a Sony (it's the most rented cameras out there). I would say something else; buy it if you really need it for your projects or simply if you want it (don't overthink about this), especially now at this price. I'm going to buy an Amira, not for rental purpose but only because I always wanted to own an Arri (I shot multiple times with it tho). And at this price I prefer to get this than a Komodo X, a FX9 or a URSA Cine 12k, I'm just in love with the image quality. It's not even a wise investment, I know that but who cares, filmmaking is my passion before being my job ;-)

Really enjoyed this BTS breakdown! I’ve done a few shorts now as a cinematographer and I’ve noticed time on set is always the underestimated factor in production. We’ll spend months in pre production to minimize time on set, and still time is always crunched. Can’t wait to shoot something with enough time to not rush - I don’t know if it will ever happen lol Can’t wait to see your short 🙌

I really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing, Josh. A year or so has passed since this was uploaded, so I'm wondering if you're still shooting with the M10? If so, do you have any more thoughts on it? I'm looking to get my first M (also an M10), so I'm really interested in long term reviews as well. I know it's subjective, but I can totally appreciate relate to you why you chose the M10.

Hey thanks Darryl. The price is the only downside. As a freelancer when this winter has been slow I have thought about selling it but I love shooting with it so much I can’t. I will probably sell my Summicron 50mm V4 because I mostly stick with my 35mm Asph. I am still in love with the camera and bring it most places with me. Also coming from film I have a screw on Black Pro-Mist 1/8 filter that I leave screwed on to either of the lenses to get a little bloom in the highlight, then edit with VSCO or Dehancer to get more of a film look. You can see my photos with the camera on my photo IG @jmhfilm or my filmmaking work at IG @joshherumdp

Dang the rates in ur area are so different from LA. Full package w batteries, media, tripod, filters, follow focus, two monitors, is renting for 350/day here. And the used price on a 3500 hour mini is 26k. I’m debating trying to get one to rent mostly, but the competition here so fierce.

For the feel, you just can't beat a Leica. It's a brick, but ultra portable. The lenses are every bit as good as the best glass from Sony, Canon, Nikon, etc... but they're literally pocket sized. So you get this perfect weight and heft but the image quality and color stands right beside these pocket rocket modern mirrorless cameras with their baby-leg-sized lenses. It's perfect. I went with the M240 because I don't have the side cash for the M10, and I'm super happy with it 🤘

Great video! I know this wasn’t a scientific test between the two cameras or anything, but I would definitely take the comparison footage between the Alexa Mini and 35 with a grain of salt. Totally different lenses used, and codecs / bit-colors too.

You are totally right with red looking digital, I owned multiple DSMC2, Komodo etc, and all the sensors always had a digital sharpness to them, even with some difffusion it still rendered skin tones more clinically, so its good for TV etc, but anything 'filmic' based, cant beat arri.

I actually side-graded to an alexa mini from an Alexa XT Plus. To be completely honest it was more for health reasons than for the mini itself. I kinda fell in love with the operating style of the "good old studio camera" although this definetly has its downsides. But I started getting really intense backproblems even with an appropriate Easyrig (the bloody thing is almost 20 pounds, just the body and viewfinder) And on recent virtual production projects I pushed it to around 45 pounds. So there was really just the option, getting the lighter Mini or stop working in this Industry because of health issues in a couple of years:( But enough sad storys told; really enjoyed you video mate 😀

Sounds like a smart move for your situation and i appreciate you sharing. I have no kids and super fortunate to be able to buy it in cash.
