I’d argue that the fans asking for AC to return to its roots, don’t actually want AC to return to its roots.

My biggest gripe with Mirage was how empty the surrounding areas were. Brotherhood had way more for you to do outside of rome proper and that came out ages ago, a new game shouldn't be worse than an old one.

Y'all overhyped it way too much, I didn't think it was the best assassin's creed in thr world. I knew it was a valhalla dlc with a focus on assassin's that became a game. So i knew what to expect it. I loved and enjoyed it. Over hyping games is a bad thing

AC doesn´t have to be safed. It´s still one of trhe most lucrative series. New and old players buy these games. Even disappointed REAL AC fans buying it. It´s an old franchise. Many other developers have copied things from AC, some did way better games. There won´t be a big surprise in the future, some feature that elevates AC to new spheres. And when you make an old school AC with all its lost features, then many players will be disappointed, because old school AC wasn´t loved by anyone. I think Origins is by far the best overall and most polished game in this series. Maybe not in case of the Assassin aspect, but how many times you want to experience the same formula?

About the "controlling animations not controlling actions" point, I think that's entirely because of Unity. Having watched all this gameplay prior to that point including on other videos, I cringed seeing just how "fluid" it looked doing parkour movements just like Unity. I knew what was happening with the controls by just watching it. Mirage was made as a game to "celebrate" the older titles, and tbh, if I was making the game and heard how much people loved Unity's parkour I'd probably be inspired by that too, but it was just the wrong call. Unity's parkour sucks as much as people struggle to admit it. It certainly looks great but the system is so heavily context driven that it fails at being genuinely fun. You just go wherever the game says you go, not where you say you go. Unity's resurgence in popularity on KZread definitely hurt Mirage I think. It looks pretty but it's not fun to play, so Mirage got the same thing, it looks flashy but where's the controllable inputs to go and do exactly anything at any time?

I'm afraid I disagree profoundly with some of your takes. Particularly calling Jin a hypocrite. However, I hypothesize that some of your opinions may be influenced by some innate affinity for the sense of honor the code of Bushido provides. Whereas I on the other hand, have always innately been drawn to stealth and combat pragmatism, which would be probably why I accepted the story of Jin Sakai more readily than you. It's funny that you don't mention that the Ghost of Tsushima is basically the first ninja of Japan in all but name. However, it is more accurate to call Jin a shinobi, and Jin Sakai is the most purest form of shinobi in modern media. There is the misconstrued archetype that ninjas or shinobi are mercenaries for hire and trained in secluded hidden villages generation after generation, but real historical ninjas are different. Did ninjas know how to be stealthy? Yes. Did ninjas know how to take out a target quickly? Sure. But ninjas, above all else are about survival. Look at Jin, look at all the tools he gathered and the tricks he uses during the course of the game. He stole Mongol technology to turn it against them. He weaponized his growing mystique and turned fear into his armor. Whether it be a well-placed Poison Dart, or a last minute Smoke Bomb, he did whatever it took to defeat Mongols and get the job done, no matter what the cost to his honor and standing. That is the very essence of the word "survival" and an idea in how powerful a person can be when they are resourceful, creative and fearless. Jin Sakai was the greatest critical thinker of Tsushima. Finally, how could you compare Jin and Ryuzo side by side as hypocrites? Remember what Jin's answer was to Shimura about what honor means? At first, Jin gave a textbook answer, but when prompted by Shimura further, Jin's answer to honor was, "Protecting people. The once who can't defend themselves." Jin has never, not for a single second, wavered from that principle. When Jin broke his honor, it was *always* to protect the people of Tsushima. (Again, survival) When Ryuzo broke his honor, he was betraying Tsushima, and selling out the rest of the island to protect his band of ronin. You can see the effect of Jin's principles all over the island. Every single civilian Jin meets respects and honors him with praise and gratitude. A far cry from Ryozo's ronin that actively started enslaving the people during one sidequest.

Dishonored fans need to band together for either a dishonored 3 or deathloop 2. DOTO and the lore of deathloop leave so many open-ended questions, what happened to the empire, the kaldwins, the void itself? How many years were Julianna and Colt stuck in the loop? Why can they use void powers outside the loop at the end if the outsider is dead? Certainly something has to come next, right?

Well said. The game was fine. It has good things and bad things. It felt like a game that did not have a chance to be totally of it's own. Also some story aspects at the end are a bit confusing if you have not played Valhalla. Issues are felt in the parkour at least for me, as you get stuck quite a lot or Basim just moves somewhere else than you want him to move. Also, even though combat is not meant to be the focus in Mirage, it still feels like lack of effort or time to create this game. The old AC games had different weapons with their own animations. In Mirage, we only have the sword and dagger. At the end I felt the game was missing stuff, be it story, unique animations or a certain level of polish. (As others have stated the series at times seems like it is going down with quality with discussion scenes when we should be going forward.) I did not want a 100+ hour game again but surely we could have gotten a bit more at least to flesh out the story and characters. Also After Mirage I started to feel that the AC games are missing a bit of realised potential in terms of the location and timeline setting. I absolutely love certain settings in the series. Origins with Egypt and Mirage with Baghdad. Overall with games in this series we get the world, the atmosphere, the music and a bit of language at times. But what I think is missing, are additions / moments of culture, traditions and actions. There are some but it could be a bit more depending on the game. What I mean by this are moments when you eat together at dinner, traditional crafts of the era, family structure, interactions etc. The setting is left very surface level at times when they could dig a bit deeper and show what these cultures were. That would be fascinating as some of us AC players choose to play only certain entries of the series. And the reasons for that can be the setting at times. I think a lot of us would appreciate a bit more incorporation of the culture of these places to the gameplay / discussion scenes. For example, my favorite moments in Origins were the stone circles that told you stories related to the constellations / gods. With Mirage, I felt wanting more of these cultural aspects.

it took me 12 hours to get through the prologue of valhallah.. also wtf ive watched a bunch of review videos and no one ever said that the main game takes place in england.. probably because none of them ever made it that far.. it looks pretty interesting but i seriously thought it was going to be in the netherlands the whole time.. its honestly very shocking.. its the most soulslike game and a lot of it is pretty good tho not much like a classic ac game. the thing about these games that makes me mad more than anything is getting stuck on walls. lets say youre running away from a bunch of overpowered enemies and you come to a wall and he just stands there and you push the button ten times and he doesnt jump over the wall or once yu get on it he just stands there and you push the button ten times and now he wont jump off.. this happens all the time in combat getting stuck on things, its not very smooth.

For me it was the puzzles that dragged this game down. Badly designed, tedious, frustrating and thrown at the player in very long stretches. I also agree about the story. It wasn't as good or as compelling as the first two games. Additionally there are some truly maddening gunfights where you can die far too easily and it feels like the game is being cheap in those moments. Overall though this is still a great blockbuster adventure. Just not as good as Uncharted 2 and 4 and maybe on par with the first game.

This comment section is telling me that critical thinking when it comes to understanding what a consequence is, is nonexistent. His family being murdered isnt a consequence because its not a result of his actions during the game
