I'm a 50yo from the US and have to say that Dunedin scene in the late 80's was one of the best scenes in the world. Flying Nun Records had tons of good bands. what is the scene like now?

This TV appearance was the first time I heard of them in 1988, but I didn't catch the name of the band or the song title. The line about the big, red rubber ball stayed with me as an earworm for half a year, then I told a muso acquaintance about it and he said it might be this band. Then one Friday night a bunch of us went to see them play at the Venue in Auckland. They opened the set with this song; as soon as I heard the first chords blasting out over our heads, I knew it was the band from the TV! I went to so many of their gigs over the next few years, always amazing. In more recent years I saw them at The Others Way Fest on K' Rd in 2019 and Flying Nun 40th in 2021. ❤❤❤

Why is there so much good music from NZ? Whats going on in that island?

I have seen this a few times but only just now noticed Chris Knox is displaying a Van Der Graaf Generator album sleeve in the background, that is so cool. Now I think about it I do vaguely remember him mentioning (VdGG's singer & songwriter) Peter Hammill on student radio back in the day..

Fascinating to hear this rare gem, thank you. I am baffled as to why they did not put it on the B-side of the 'Hail' single instead of (or alongside) 'So Long Marianne'.

I just randomly found this clip, and fascinating to see that after 12 years of no comments, you just beat me to it. A wonderful track that I don't thing I've heard before, or at least must have forgotten about over the years. One of the best bands ever!

@@g4lact1c Yes, this whole era (Hail LP 1988) gets overlooked (even by the band themselves as I don't think they were happy with the production compared to the 1st EP). This Taste Delight is a Kiwi classic of it's time which somehow got lost in the shuffle..

They were pissed off with me for being so ugly on the clarinet while Peter sang the intro... I was pretty drunk, but thought it would be way down in the mix....
