they were nice jets but made a lot of noise leaving Wellington they used to shake the ground. They fitted hush kits to try and cut down the noise these worked quite well.

I never got to ride in a 727. There are so few left of her now in commercial service. But maybe one day...

Thanks for posting! What a wonderful little time capsule....a -200 with eyebrow windows...the stewardesses in their 'lollipop' uniforms...."extinguish your cigarettes before take off"...the residual influence of BBC English on the New Zealand accent... A different world

Flew on the air new Zealand DC 10 twice.when we landed back we actually had stairs and you could see the massive size of them.magere domestic airport was also the international.no passport to Australia it was a domestic flight back then.when I think about it it must of been just replacing the DC 8.

There was always something quite Cool to me about the 737-200, was a good little work horse! And it introduced me to a life long love of aircraft and flying! 👍

Gorgeous ! I love the Boeing 727. I'm sorry to see it leave the flying world. It's interesting how the Krueger Flaps flapped backwards under the wing, and the leading edge slats slid backwards over and into the top of the wings. Aarre Peltomaa

FACINANTE !!...

Wonder if those hush kits really make a noticeable reduction in sound to casual observer. I know I never could tell any sound reduction when the 727s flew over my house back in late 90s when hush kitted.

God, they were noisy, use to live under the flight path in Auckland. When Ansett introduced the BA146, it was like chalk and cheese.

I loved watching these 737s from the observation deck as a kid with family. Now working in aviation in Australia. I was a aircraft worker at Qantas working on 737NG. Now back in ground handling role working on 737 and airbus A320/21. Good memories.

I love this video, as a kiwi who lived in CHCH it brings back memories of a airline golden age. Kiwis are always looking at improvement as you can see from the well trained aircrew.

Flight 2 May 1979 from Christchurch to Sydney. I was 7 years old starting a new life in Australia via a Air NZ DC 10. I used to love the warm flannels and the lemon serbet sweets to unblock your ears upon landing
