    I don’t know anything about generators, about how many watts is good enough for a whole house?

  • @DadItYourselfDIY
    @DadItYourselfDIY5 күн бұрын

    It depends on your electrical requirements. All of my major appliances are natural gas, I have LED lighting, etc. If I do not run my clothes dryer and limit hot water usage, I can get by with a 6500-watt unit. But if you have central air conditioning, an electric stove, etc, you may require 9000, 10000, or 12000 watts. Some people install a transfer panel that limits what can be used when on generator, like essentials (lights, refrigerator, etc.). Then, they can use a smaller generator, even though they have a higher overall demand.

    I'm no expert, but anyone watching this video, be aware that you have a very important break in for a new generator you have to perform before putting it to work like this, and you also need to let it come up to temperature before puttload on it, and throw the breakers WAY slower, maybe 5mins between additional load. rest is awesome. thanks for sharing!!

    Screw all this😂. Get a 20k portable generac, fuel injected, key start, build a whip , 50 AMP. Your generator doesn't power your entire house! First breaker on after firing up with a small generator like this is your furnace and AC and listen to load. Turn AC all the way down unless you have a soft start installed. Then hit 120 volt breakers. If your electric was tested with everything on house, something to do before you buy a generator, then hit water heater, dryer,........ stove, ............ Do you have a heater/AC because I didn't hear you say you turned them on🤔🤔 Pro tip, I love my family so get a true #6 with #10-#12 ground for 50 amp #8 for 30amp, Icbar makes them cords for harbor freight 🤣. Your electrician can make you a 30'-50' whip rather than an electrical mishap and I seriously, by the weight you were holding is a true #8 and #10 is pushing it at 30amps. Your electrician should have told you this. That many square foot, install a 50Amp plug. If your Ryobi is only 30amps , keep for camping. Another pro tip is all LED lights. Since you're hiring an electrician, generators have apps to monitor the amps as your provider has ZERO clue about your amps drawn on your appliances. Left out storing it too. FULL and gas treatment lasts for about 18-24 months and start every 30 days. 6500watts , no way on water heater and im assuming 4-5 ton based on video of homes unless you're giving up appliances. Generac or Cummings portables go up to 40k. I myself use a 20k EFI generac and 30k on other home in south as I have 3 4 ton ACs. About $4800 20k and 6k 30k for generac and $750 for accessories. Plus electrician if you require one. Power everything and have outlets for neighbors fridges. BTW, do you get coupons on Ryobi?? Asking for a friend! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣. .

    @@DadItYourselfDIYI also appreciated that you showed the depth of the closet being dependent on the drywall, no other video or Google search was straight about it. It seems common sense. But guess for a DIYer who's gonna use 3/8 or 1/2 drywall to finish it, it helps a lot. I figured as much, but I'm always super cautious before cutting anything at all. Also, I think your bump out is called a return, especially if it's a bit longer. I saw a video of a guy using anchors to screw studs into existing walls and ceilings where he couldn't find studs. I don't like the idea. How do you feel about it? Also the caulk tip did drive me mad, but I understand.

  • @DadItYourselfDIY

    I wanted to post a Thank You for these leaf vac videos and for the adapter you made. I just tried out your adapter with the B&D bag, and it makes a huge difference! I have a tolerate/hate relationship with my leaf vac. If not for your fixes, this thing would be in a landfill by now. I was a little unsure about the B&D bag vs. the garbage can solution, but I am really glad I went with the B&D bag. Having the bag on your back is not bad at all; you barely feel the weight. The only negative I would say (and this is a small nit) is that because of the location of the hose, you are forced to always use the tool righthanded. I did put a screw through your adapter to keep it in place. I may also epoxy on a small clip for the bag side of the adapter. You have turned this tool from a huge pain the neck into an actually useable product!

    This was one of the first things that I "fixed" at my mom's home after my dad passed away. Got on the computer found the replacements and now I won't get a call about the smoke alarm chirping...we live 5 hours away. I also bought the long-life batteries specially made for smoke alarms and made labels with my label maker so I could read when everything was replaced from the ground. I did buy extra batteries to have on hand because her power goes out for routine BPA powerline maintenance as well as in stormy weather so depending on how often that happens, I might need to change out the batteries sooner, rather than later.
