Galadriel is chiding Frodo for offering her the ring, not happily surprised at the idea of having it. And she “long desired” to know if she’d pass the test, if presented the opportunity, she didn’t long desire to have and use the ring. She, like Gandalf, knew it would be bad to have in their possession. Jackson et al didn’t seem to understand this.

the idea of rotoscope fantasy is still so amazing to me. imagine the people/elves are all rotoscoped but they hand draw the orcs and ents and such to give them that other worldly feel. like something out of a story book

I like how in Jackson’s film she goes all crazy when Frodo offers her the ring. But here she just laughs it off like ‘ah that’s cute. But no that thing is kinda dangerous so maybe keep it away from me.’

Thanks for continuing to share this method and examples. We started teaching the Seldon method a few years ago when you first published your videos and had the best English Standard results ever at our school. Due lots of disruption and staff changes, we dropped off with it and I'm trying to reintroduce again after having recently read the CESE document. Being an English teacher, I really appreciate seeing the English examples and love looking at the teacher resources/student books. Is there any chance you could share a bit more about how it works in HSIE and Science subjects?

I like her laughing at Frodo's proposal. In the Peter Jackson movie, Galadriel is still deeply shaken and tempted by the offer and its prospect. In contrast, the almost sassy laughter in this version seems to indicate that this version of Galadriel has already pondered the idea to the end and rejected it for herself. Even though it seems slightly goofy how she's so light-hearted in her dismissal of something of such gravity, it shows her as someone who has already overcome this kind of desire for power, and is thus in a way wiser than her live action counterpart.

Brilliant brilliant acting from Sheen, so poignant, and dare I say so much deeper and more moving than Peter Finch in the 1968 version. Sheen just makes you feel his agony.

I remember someone saying that Galadriel wouldn't be allowed back into the West until after she gave up power, since she was initially banished from there for trying to become a queen...

The term "Ghirlandéina" refers to the "Ghirlandina" which is the Bell Tower of the Cathedral of Modena and which has become the symbol of the city. It owes its name to the double row of railings that adorn it as if they were garlands. The song is not in Italian but in the regional language (Emiliano) spoken in that city.

There's an important lesson here about the temptations of power, even on small scales. Also, the One Ring is like certain drugs, or rather the effects of certain drugs on certain people. Power over others is itself a kind of drug that can compromise judgement.

In this version i can actually understand what galadriel is saying when she was tested. lol. The animation is so lifelike and masterful , amazing and beautiful!!! todays hand drawn animation has nothing on this(Not including cgi graphics of course lol.).

great scene 🎬 Thanks for posting 🙏 ...thing about love is it's so broken n'self sacrificing ...n'still, the satisfaction one gets from it, whether it's between two lovers or many, or even none at all,... ...can be the most transcendent and spiritually moving things anyone can ever be a part of// In movies anyway... ha🎥

I worked with Mike Starr once or twice. He told me a great story about this song. He was at a customs stop in Canada and was singing the song to himself. The lady customs agent said, “YOU’RE SINGING IT ALL WRONG!” Turns out it was a song from her Italian village. She taught him the cadence, etc. I once wrote an episode of Law & Order and it had a big bad guy in it. I wrote it with Mike Star’s voice in mind. WHO shows up at casting, but MIKE STARR! I said, “um, I think he can handle it!” LOL

2:05 I feel like this is the one fleeting moment where she feels the temptation to take it, just that subtle widening of her eyes as Frodo offers her the ring. The speech that follows is where she has already realised that she has passed the test, and won’t take it after all, hence why she seems so light hearted during the delivery. Enchanting performance by the voice actress, and equally entrancing animation.

I will always love this movie. I watched at 14 in my english class and even if I didnt understood half of it moved me so much that i searched for the book and read it. That first time was like magic, discovering a new world and its wonders. Truly an unforgettable experience. So this movie will always have a place in my heart.
