I am glad that the Prera can be eyedropper filled. The converter is so small. I haven't used mine, yet, so that is how I will use it. The Eco is such a nice pen. The flow is excellent with the nib and feed. I have the Opus 88 Demonstrator which is a great pen. The ink just flows out of the nib. I think I have to reconsider getting the 580. It seems so nice.

I like this model as with the 9016 and the 9019. I find it is best for me when posted. It is light enough not to be upset if it is a bit back weighted. My biggest complaint is the converter. I think Jinhao missed the chance to provide a slightly shorter version of the converter in the other models. That would have been exceptional. So, I plugged the end of the barrel and made it an eyedropper. It works very well. The Heartbeat nib does pose a problem if you need to floss it. So far I have been happy with the flow as is. Great review, Garry.

I hesitate to say this for fear of jinxing myself, but I have been very happy with the Jinhao Heartbeat nibs I have on several 9019s, 9016s, and 9013s. All have been lovely writers. Although I rarely do reverse writing, I usually check out of curiosity. Reverse writing with pretty much all of the Heartbeat nibs I have is as wet and smooth as regular writing and consistently better than regular writing with many nibs. Lest anyone misunderstand, I have a few very high-end pens, including a Montblanc 146, and and a number of pens in the US$50-200 range, so I know quite what good nibs feel like. I would put the JInhao Heartbeat nibs I have up against many of those pens, all of which are great writers.

Nice first impression Gary. I have the same colored 9016, but with a fine nib. One slight correction, the converter in the 9016 is slightly smaller than the one that comes with the 9019, but definitely bigger than the standard Jinhao converter. You'll see it when you get the 9013. I don't mind the size of the 9019, but the 9016 is a nice size that splits the difference between a 9019 sized pen and many of the smaller pens that are available. Looking forward to the 9013 video.

You mentioned that the 630 has a Jinhao #8 nib. A bit of a flub. I think the Eco is about the same width of the Carene. I think it is a bit surprising that the 630 and the MZG have approximately the same barrel girth. I thought the 630 was wider. For my hand the MZG feels more comfortable. I do not have the same section as you as they changed it with the MZG 2.0. I did an ink capacity test with the 630. It holds 2.0 ml. The MZG is 1.5 ml. As they are about identical weight, it seems the resin on the MZG is either thicker or slightly heavier. It may be the ink but the 630 has a wider line than the MZG. I think the 630 has a wetter nib and feed combination. This is not to say the MZG is a dry writer. I love both pens. They will remain in my collection permanently. The 630 is such a good performer that I have no real interest in acquiring a MB 149. If I was to get another MZG, it would be for an ink window. I do agree with your assessment; the MZG is a better pen. If nothing else, their resins are outstanding. Great comparison, Garry.
