This won't work if you have a new computer that came preinstalled with Windows s-mode. In Windows 11 S mode, both the Command Prompt and PowerShell are disabled for security reasons. Note: Turning off S Mode is permanent. Once you turn it off, you can't turn it back on. You have two ways: 1- If you don't have a Microsoft Account, the only way to get rid of S mode is to disable Secure Boot in the UEFI (BIOS). After disabling secure boot and exiting the UEFI, your PC will reboot. Upon restarting, S Mode will be disabled. 2- If you have a Microsoft Account: Sign in with a Microsoft account, then disable S-Mode permanently. Switching out of S mode in Windows 11: a. On your PC running Windows 11 in S mode, open Settings > System > Activation. b. Find the Switch to Windows 11 Pro section, then select the Go to the Store link. Note: Don't select the link under Upgrade your edition of Windows. That's a different process that will keep you in S mode. c. On the page that appears in Microsoft Store (Switch out of S mode or a similar page), select the Get button. After you confirm this action, you'll be able to install apps from outside Microsoft Store. In this scenario, should you reinstall or factory reset Windows 11 in the future, you can bypass the Microsoft account using the methods we've provided.
