    Čovek bolje priča Srpski nego što je Tito ikada. I Titu je trebalo par godina da nauči Srpski, u toku rata skoro da ga nije ni pričao.

    Thanks for sharing your impressions! I was surprised hearing you express concern about the "far right". These are the people who may be able to turn things around. The state is clearly not your friend! We are witnessing it all over Europe, time and time again. But anyway, Serbia seems like a really good place! 🙂

    Alex, how about another interview with a Russian, but with a more profound political reasoning? specifically, what would be your take on modern Russian identity? as we all know, 90% of ethnic Russians live west of Urals, that is, inside the European continent. but, Dugin and the likes have put much effort into positing a Eurasian identity. obviously, Shoigu is a Tuvan, Lavrov is half-Armenian, etc, so this could be viewed as a follow-up to the Soviet era, but it requires a fresh outlook. in terms of Serbo-Russian ties... back in the early 90s, the majority of Serbs voted Milosevic, who promised to retain a socialist economy. he even supported the coup against Gorbachov (august '91) and later on sponsored Zyuganov and the CPRF. this political adventurism ended in a tragedy, and delayed us for a decade, which is evident to both Russians and Ukranians who arrived here lately. i'd like to see your take on some of these issues...

Having her in my life taught me to see Serbia from a different perspective. She has made my life much better for the past eight years. I am glad people are coming over. We need more awesome expats like Paul. ❤

    When she said she is a journalist I knew she gets everything upside down. I bet she knows even less about Serbian politics. Why Crimea joined Russia? Who actualy ruined Mariupol? Was it that Ukrainian army made hell of a living for 8 years for its own citizens who felt more Russian or did Russia do it? Who banned language, history and religion of other side? Dismantling her beliefs is little effort for me or anyone decently objective. Serbian people love Russians who stayed in Russia. Those who came will sell us out tomorrow if similar troubles come again at our border one day. Its the type of people. Want everything handed to them. I am not trying to be disrespectful but I am tired of seeing that propaganda poison people, one that pushed my country into gutters and the Europe along with it. Take this as an advice. Research a bit outside the big name newspapers and mainstream media whos job is to channel military industrial corporate agenda.

    Stupid people like this will never understand that Serbia is Russia and Russia is Serbia. Thats just two tribes of Serbs that was split up during the Great Flood 7000 years ago. One tribe followed Dnjestar river up, and 2nd tribe followed Danube. One DNA, one God, one Identity, Rus i Srb braca za navek.

    I've now lived in Serbia for 3 years, moved from London as well - totally love it. Yes, I miss British cheese and tea, but love it. Pretty much everything he said - I totally agree with. The price of a pack of cigarettes in the UK is equal to a pack of cigarettes and a night out here in Serbia. Love Serbia and don't want to go back to London or the UK.

    @@MarkHebblewhite oh, i guess you're married to a Serbian person then. one more thing... in terms of psychogeography, do you have a different sense of place when comparing life in the isles and deep in the continent?

  • @MarkHebblewhite
    @MarkHebblewhite12 сағат бұрын

    @@odvedokikrema That's an interesting question. There are definitely cultural differences. In the UK, especially London, the work culture is intense and demanding. Here, it's more relaxed, which allows for stronger family and friend connections. London’s high cost of living often keeps people away from their loved ones, while work dominates social life. I feel a strong sense of place here, having visited for so many years. The ability to drive to another country in just a few hours is fantastic. I do miss the fresh fish from the UK, as it's mostly frozen here. However, the friendliness and community spirit in Serbia more than makes up for it. In London, most people don't even know their neighbors, but here, people are warm and welcoming. And yes, I married a Serbian lady, both our kids speak Serbian fluently and one also lived over here for a year. Ideally they both would move over - but that's just a selfish dad speaking, who wants his kids around him.

    @@MarkHebblewhite seaside, fresh fish, leisure, community, family... have you considered moving to proper Southern Europe, like Portugal or Greece? Serbia is more 'south-central' than properly Mediterranean... as for the English work ethic, i get the complaint, but such mentality yields higher productivity and GDP per capita, both unattainable in these parts...

    Talking about UK sounds the same Serbian expats feel about Serbia. And most of us living here feel about Serbia, unfortunately. But, still better then most countries in the world, although that's not much consolation.

    Truth! Pur Truth, I am half Serbian and raised in the US. My grandfather chased me with slippers my whole life! He finally relented and bought be socks with treds. When I married my husband and had a baby, I was introduced to the wet hair, promaja danger situation. I think that the Kosava wind that blows in Serbia is particularly dangerous! Everything is blamed on it. Last free country in Europe!
