IDK I love it. Ignorance is bliss. I guess. Oddly, my first thoughts upon hearing it was that it sounded like some obscure forgotten artist from 1966 that I dug out of a dusty record bin at a thrift store. Cheers

I'll review this album if a song from this charts on the Hot 100!

Your review may be the closest to my thoughts as everyone else so far, albeit not as eloquently thought out on my end. There are some standout tracks, but on the whole I'm not fully clicking with what makes this album revered by so many. It's interesting how much additional effort it might take someone to really want to listen to this album by downloading the .wav files from a Geocities page, and then manually include the ID3 tags for each track. For a generation of people who only know streaming, it might seem not worth the task (or one might even use slsk to download the fully-tagged files). I'm the weirdo who still stores his music offline, rips CDs, and will occasionally fix a track's tags. This type of rollout might be part of the whole Diamond Jubilee experience for some people. As for me, it'll likely make my Honorable Mentions list for the year, but I'm not fully getting the hype for this album.

I agree is a good album but after 2 hs there's a lot of fillers, if it was shorter it will be better.

I thought I'd poke my head in and take a listen to a critic. Disappointed. 4 tracks in and I'm 59 texting my late 20 and early 30 something kids that this album is a banger. Went through the whole set and yeah, I was right. It's a banger! I was taught by Prince that music is definitely subjective and attracts one's taste. Everybody doesn't and everybody does like Broccoli (depending on whom you talk to).

Honestly, why I think it is his masterpiece is because of the hyperpop tones because, to me, hyperpop is one of the most chronically online genres since vaporwave, both helmed by marginalized folks. To use hyperpop as a jumping off point is to comment on the sound of time wasted and accelerated to the internet. So, when he gets out of that for a few songs (especially with the help of Bartees Strange), it feels like the sound of "Cadence IRL".

You know what, I agree with saying that it 'makes sense' on a logical/emotional level. It doesn't make it any less of a fucking terrible badly produced and performed song that kills any mood of the album, and as your closing track, that's your final note you leave the audience. When you end on such a deliberately petty downbeat moment, the message you get isn't that 'healing isn't linear, which would demand some level of moral ambiguity', it's 'I'm going to spread my capricious, tedious misery elsewhere'. It can make sense in intent, and still be garbage in execution.

Honestly the whole ‘brat’ takeover is so refreshing… a organic, surprise blockbuster album that so many can relate with. The Lana Del Rey line in Mean Girls is also such a serve (I’m a Lana fan and the whole song is so true). I’m happy for Charli and her well deserved success! 💚
