It's a shame that PACs and lobbiests have such a deep impact on our elected officials to the point of ruining our environment. Light pollution is fully preventable, and bright lighting doesn't really improve anything. Thanks for the video and your efforts.

Overall a very nice presentation, thank you. Especially the photos are wonderful. However, I kept waiting for it to stop being people-centric and start talking more about the land (rther a paternalistic view I think). Different kind of presentation I guess. I would add a couple words of advice to those who know we must save nature or humans cannot survive on the planet. First, cattle-grazing wreaks havok on the land. Consider just one day or even one meal, eat beans instead of meat. The other comment is, it looks to me that we are increasingly less able to save large tracks of land. That's because people insist on procreating more than the planet can support. I agree with Doug Tallamy's watershed book, Bringing Nature Home: we must toss the gardening idea in our very yards in favor of native plants and natural landscaping that supports wildlife. Without bugs, we die. Let's bring nature right into our suburban and urban homes also.

I did not know that Texas allows everyone to collect rainwater-----other parts of the United States it's against the law to collect rainwater

In Texas, rainwater harvest is both legal AND encouraged! There are incentive programs in many cities that actively promote setting up at-home rainwater harvest systems. You can learn more from the Texas Water Development Board here: www.twdb.texas.gov/innovativewater/rainwater/index.asp

That's strange. Even a large roof collects only a small portion of the rain that falls on most properties.

ive started planting fruiting plants like escarpment black cherry, dewberry, and beautyberry to try and attract birds, who may drop some seeds from other riparian areas around the austin area. ive also been building small dams to play the role beavers did back before they were hunted into extinction here. doing all that shit can make a seasonal creek into a perennial one.

By small dams, do you mean beaver dam analogs? Stakes driven into the streambed with woven branches between? Great work! I'm glad you have created an environment for birds and other wildlife.

GCDs are governmental intrusion and coercion, nothing more. In most cases it’s the have nots trying to control the haves. It’s against everything the Founding Fathers stood for. And in Texas! Absolutely disgusting.

@Trap_Or_Die_845 жыл бұрын
Yes, rainwater harvesting is legal in the State of Texas. According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, most if not all domestic water needs can be met by collecting rainfall from the roofs of homes and outbuildings. A permit to collect rainwater is not needed.
