Wow! This mare is extremely protective of her new born ... even with the fence dividing them! Am a fan of Friesian horses, which are good mother's to their small foals, this mare is really careful....

Noted that when foal needed attention-grabber as Mom wanted to take baby aways, she forcefully continued stomping her feet which did the trick immediately !!

Yup also notice how she moves her head. Horse language is fascinating & it's beautiful to watch. Love the way the owner stands there n takes it all in as an observer & IS NOT interfering, or trying to tell the horses what there next step should be. Smart lady, 👍🎯

Thanks for keeping them together. This is a very important few days where the foal learns a lot of valuable lessons on how to be a horse from the mare.

Mom doing her best to keep her foal safe. it was interesting to see her stomp the ground a little when she wanted to foal to get away from the other adult horses. Good communication.

I see that when a foal starts walking/running, the mare is having to run after her baby to keep it safe. Just like a human mother has to do when her toddler gains confidence in walking/running. Except the mare is doing it days after birth!

Stupid comments. This is exactly what cairns are trained to do. Go down holes in the ground and bark at vermin. So that dad can blast them when they run out. Kill the waaaabbit.

I know only a little bit of horse language. I noticed that that fall would run this way or that way and that mother would trail him wherever he went. She was teaching him about following and leading. And even though he was a baby he had a chance to learn to command the follower which way to go this way or that way. She also would follow his lead and then when you slow down she would look around and form a barrier in this direction or that which provided the baby comfort and security and also taught him things that he will need for the rest of his life It is fun and interesting as a city boy who only knew a bit about horses to see that behaviour and to learn that horses are intelligent beings that I have needs and feelings and that they talk they teach they think.
