  We stayed at a hostel in Riohacha and someone came in offering a tour, we pulled together a group of like 6-7 people who were down to do it and took off. I can’t really say we had a plan, but you most definitely should utilize a tour because navigating the roads through the indigenous villages and knowing where to go would have been an absolute nightmare even for the most seasoned of travelers. The tour company will usually handle the overnight stay in Cabo de La Vela as well. Hope that helps!

  Definitely wasn’t easy but we both speak pretty solid spanish which helped with picking up Portuguese. We also made it an effort to learn as much Portuguese as we could, my friend Quinn definitely carried us though as he was better than I was.
