My first video was filmed in a sunroom due to the bright natural lighting, and just like that, Sunroom Studios was born! It has since grown to encompass topics ranging from cool things I've seen in nature, reviews of products, and projects I work on here and there. These video projects are fun to make and serve as a creative output. I hope you enjoy them!

I'm doing similar to my 17 4runner. Full bumper, Badlands Apex winch, no lightbar. Already have CBI skid plates so I hope they match up fairly seamlessly. I have 3 friends to help, all named Jack. Floor Jack, lol. CBI rear bumper (no swing outs) too. I'm planning to do it during 2 week vacation (staycation)
That’s awesome! It completely changes the look. Nice to have a big chunk of time to do it without feeling rushed. Good luck on the install!
Noice!! Thank you.
I bought a harbor frieght case. I drilled holes in it. It works. I figure I can put some gorilla tape where the holes are. I put my coleman stove, and electric blanket and my awning lights.
Nice! I also may eventually drill holes for a more secure method once I get a full roof rack and know where all the cross bars are, or I may go with the quick release system like Pelican has. Lots of options out there. Thanks for watching!
Good video. Keeping the budget in mind, things are tough these years. 😅
I've been struggling with the same issue because of all of my prepping gear, but I have a seriously tight budget at the moment. So, unfortunately, I can't go big on all of the sexy 4runner mods right now. This is a great idea. Thanks for the video :)
Yep, I’m trying to figure out some budget ways to use the factory roof rack and keep it low profile.
What is the gap measurement at the rear / between the cover and the rear lift gate?
I just measured it and with that angled flap level, there’s a 2” gap to the tailgate. The last 7” is an angled flap that tilts downward unless you have enough gear to hold it level with the rest of the retracting cover. It’s still holding up well and I’ve stacked guitars, shovels, traction boards, etc on top of it.
Great video. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
My relays are connected how do I separate the.
Good tips. Slightly off topic question. Who makes the case on your roof rack, Pelican, Harbor Freight...? I was talking to an overland at Home Depot a few weeks ago. He said his was from Harbor Freight. He also said he keeps an ax, shovel etc in it. I've seen several over landers with a case like that on their roof racks.
Great timing! An upcoming video I’m working on will be about the case and how I’m mounting it. I wanted to try it on the roof a bit before doing a video on it. It’s a Pelican case that’s over a decade old. There are plenty of great cases out there, but I’m a big fan of Pelican!
@@sunroomstudios8487 I've always heard great things about Pelican, but I was hoping yours was Harbor Freight. The over lander I spoke with said HFs was actually thicker material than Pelican. I'll look forward to your Pelican case video.
Thanks for a very detailed video.... It made my installation soooo much easier :-).... I believe that the two special screws that come with the kit for each side should go together where the bar overlaps the shield, instead of putting one on each side of the bar. It makes sense, because this is the only area where the original screws are not long enough to grab sufficient thread.
That makes sense the security bolts go together. I should have tried that!
Great video!
Thanks!
i did mine by my self takes 45 min.
Nice job!
Just installed it on my 06 4Runner Sport but I can’t find the front diff breather, help please
You don’t really need to install one for the front. The front breather is on the drivers side, but is already elevated to the level of the air intake, so unless you’re going through water above your floorboards, you don’t need to extend the front. It’s difficult to reach anyway. I’m not sure why the rear is so low compared to the front, but all I did was the rear. Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
@@sunroomstudios8487 Oh perfect glad to know, thank you!
What do you think that vehicle is, a refrigerator your childhood dresser of drawers. Looks ill minded.
Really appreciate the close ups and videos showing delicate matters and know hows. I was able to copy it all the way with minimum issues. Thank you!! 😊
Thanks! I appreciate it! Glad it helped!
Great video! Do you happen to know what the purpose of the removable lower grill is?
I’m assuming it’s for added ventilation. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
@@sunroomstudios8487 I can see the airflow advantage over other brands. Any chance it allows you to access the bolts that secure the winch? Or access to anything else that would otherwise be hard to get at when the bumper is mounted? It seems like a lot of effort for them to design it to be removable if removing it has no purpose.
The plate appears to be removable but would require some manipulation. That would allow access to the mounting bolts for the winch, but there’s no chance that winch is coming out without taking the entire bumper off. I don’t see a real reason for this other than possibly an easier manufacturing process.
Good to know! Off to the tire shop!
these were out of stock when I was looking to buy it. So I went with RSG metalworks. The cat shield also act as under body armor that protect the cat and the trans.
I looked at RSG also, but they were about $100 more and had minimal ventilation holes. It really came down to price for me. RSG looks super easy to install though with only 4 bolts, so that’s a big bonus.
I have them as well and they are killer!
I ordered a set a week ago
Do you know what brand of running boards those are?
The running boards came with the vehicle, and there are no identifying logos, other than a stamped number “29112182”. They are 4” tube step bars, similar to Westin Pro Traxx from Carid.com. They are only for a step and don’t offer any protection, they’d fold with any impact. One of my next mods on my wishlist is to replace these with good quality rock sliders.
@@sunroomstudios8487 Thanks for the info. Those Westin ones do look similar. I noticed you have a MN license plate. Do you happen to be near Fargo? If so maybe I could take those off your hands when you are done with them.
I promised them to a coworker when that time comes, probably at least a year from now though.
It is MORE alluring to a thief when they see a cargo cover.
I probably use it more as a separator from my gear with other odds and ends, rather than a sole theft deterrent. It’s convenient to throw a coat on top, and strong enough to support a guitar. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
Very clean cable management
Thanks! I appreciate it!
every time i work on something, at least 1 bolt falls into oblivion...
How do you have such steady hands? Great video.
😂 💪
Great video. Can you reach the lever to free spoil the winch from the opening in the bumper?
Yes, you can reach the winch lever from the bumper cut out to free spool. Not with a glove or mitten though. Kind of awkward, but you can reach it. Thanks for watching!
thanks for this video.
You're welcome!
Great instructions. Thanks!
In my 2007 Tacoma, I ran the wires and tried to replicate your method but no power to the light bar but the switch had power. I also tried multiple mutations but no luck. The aftermarket switch I had is exactly what you had. So I don’t know what I did wrong. I tested out the wiring harness to make sure I don’t get a defective one by using a switch that came with the light bar (exactly in your video) and it worked; however, no luck the other way around. I use the cigarette lighter fuse slot. Any suggestions sir?
That's frustrating. Let's try to isolate the problem. Sounds like you tested the wiring harness and it worked fine, which would include the fuse along the red wire. I'm sure you also checked all connections again, including the battery terminal for corrosion. Are you using the cigarette lighter fuse with an add-a-fuse for constant switch illumination with the yellow wire? The switch should be able to work without this, so you could try that. Also double check the cigarette lighter fuse, and also the in-line fuse in the green wire. The cigarette light fuse is only on when the key is on. You also already checked your light bar, so that's not the issue, as long as it's within the rated amps for fuses (15 amp). After checking all of this, verify secure wires going into the clip that plugs into the switch. If all of that checks out, then it's likely isolated to the switch. If you're using the same switch I did, contact the seller and I'm sure you'll get it replaced. I've contacted them before and they're great to work with. Hope that helps! Good luck!
Your experience is dramatically different from a former co-worker of mine. He had Weather Tech floor mats in the front of his four door truck. They were like ice skating rinks. My feet just slipped all over the mat. My co-worker Mike regretted the purchase. Was your rear liner like that and need a break-in period?
Wow, my rear liner never had that issue. I don’t have front liners yet though and am planning on getting some. I’ve been really happy with the rear so far. I always have floor heat mode on in the winter though, I wonder if that helps prevent an issue with ice buildup?
@@sunroomstudios8487 Oh to be more clear. No ice build up. The mats are hard and slippery. Like and ice rink.
My floor liner never had that issue, sorry to hear that your co-worker did. Maybe the chemical compound is different? There is a lifetime limited warranty. It may be worth calling or emailing them. I’d be interested in hearing what they say.
thanks for the great video. Quick question. i am not going to leave my winch control plugged in all of the time. Can you reach the plug in from the hole in the bumper underneath? i saw you reach your hand up to demonstrate how you could mount a pod light later if you wanted to and im wondering if the hole on the other side will provide access to the winch.
I can’t reach the winch wire control plug from the bumper access holes and could only reach it from the top by opening the hood and removing the plastic cowl cover. I wasn’t going to do that every time, so I left it plugged in. So far keeping it plugged in and running the wire into the cabin works just fine! If you have a wireless winch, then you don’t need to worry about plug access, only as a backup if the wireless fails. I guess another option is to relocate the winch control box to a more accessible location, but then you need to worry about mounting that securely somehow. If your winch is wired only, Harbor Freight makes a wireless controller adaptor that turns wired winches into wireless. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Interesting appreciate. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Are you eventually going to paint the front valance black? I have the same exact 4Runner and can’t stand the silver valances. I have a blackout kit for the emblems but haven’t installed yet. I’ve also been trying to find some budget running boards to help the dogs get in the back seat. Some of the ones I’ve found have holes on the steps and I know sooner or later one of the dogs will rip off a toenail. Nice job, keeping modifying until you get it perfect for your needs.
I didn’t worry about painting the front valence because I recently installed a CBI front bumper. I made a video on that if you’re interested. Couldn’t be happier with it! After removing the front valence, I personally wouldn’t go through the hassle of removing it to paint it. I’d just mask it off well and spray it in place. I always thought the silver valences were an eyesore. I haven’t done emblem blackout yet. I kind of like the topo or carbon fiber texture to be a bit different. I see what you mean about the running boards and the risk of getting a dog leg or paw wedged in it. I guess you could keep a traction board in your back and use it like a ramp. Dual purpose.
I got the same one. Cbi doesn’t offer high clearance additions like other brands, but this good chance to make my own tubular ones.
Awesome! It really transforms the entire look. Good luck on the install!
How does the plastidip hold up on the rails? Any update vid?
So far no issues with the plastidip over the winter. I think the real test will be summer sun, heat, and UV. Maybe I’ll make an update video after that. Thanks for watching!
Yes, I have the same runner and want to black it all out. I bought plastidip but have concerns as to how it will hold up and was thinking maybe paint instead..?? Please do update us about how it held up. Thanks for the video
@@amyd6711 I'll make an update video. So far the plastidip on the rear bumper is holding up well. The roof rack has a few scratches, but no peeling or flaking. It sits out in the sun and weather all the time, never in a garage. I honestly feel it's better than paint, and much easier to touch up if needed. I heard of some people spraying plastidip over the chrome logos without masking tape, then peeling it off around the logo. I didn't know that was a thing. Maybe I'll give that a try on the tailgate. If I do, I'll include that in a video.
Yes, I've plastidiped all of my logos, and it does peel away around the logo very nicely. This is why I've been hesitant to use it on the racks, but you have a good point..it will be easy to touch up if need be. Thank you so much for the info! I look forward to the update video. Have a blessed day 😊
Hi. , please assist me to purchase 2017 tacoma 4 cylinder catalytic converter anti theft shield + catalytic converter Thank you
i bought an 8 rock light kit off amazon. Am i able to use the Nilight wiring harness to wire up all 8 lights?
Yes. You’ll need a spool of 16 gauge black wire and a spool of red wire. Some use 14 gauge, but 16 gauge should be fine up to a total of 13 amps. Connect all the black lines together, and all the reds together. Then connect those colors to the relay. Good luck!
What's the rear gap at the door look like thru the rear window? Great vid
There’s about a finger width gap between the cover and the tailgate, but since the cover flap angles downward, you can’t see anything through the rear window. Thanks for watching!
Hi, do these shields fits for w/ kdss and without kdss?
Yes, works for both. This video is without KDSS. Thanks for watching!

Been looking for good video of how that thing actually fits into the 4Runner. Thanks, heres #821 for you, good luck!
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for the links, made ordering easy
Does a skid plate cover the CC?
Some aftermarket skid plates partially cover the catalytic converters, and some design updates now have wings that improve coverage. You’d need to check specific brands and compare their coverage. I thought of skids instead of the shields but ultimately decided on keeping the factory skids and going with the shields due to price.
@@sunroomstudios8487 Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this video, I knew energy suspension had a bump stop that would work for the forerunner can you tell me what you used for the rear?
I actually didn’t upgrade the rear yet, it’s on my to do list. Not sure what I’ll go with yet, I’ll need to do some research. When I do, I’ll make a video. Thanks for watching!
@@sunroomstudios8487A lot of people are using factory (or equivalent) rear bumps from a 03-09 GX470 in the rear... They're longer than 4runner but bolt right up.
I didn’t know that, thanks for the tip!
Hi, what did you use for the rear?
I haven’t upgraded the rear yet. I’m wondering if the added weight and cost is worth it for what I do. For now, I just use a shackle hitch for a recovery point and it works well. If I had to choose right now though, probably C4.
Cool cover. Thank you for sharing.
This video was very helpful, especially when you reviewed the tools you used. This was not an easy install for a novice and I had to make several runs to the hardware store to get deep socket bits, etc.
Thanks for the feedback, I’m glad it helped! Nice job getting this install done!
Did you notice a rattle from the driver side catalytic converter resting against the driver shield? I dropped the shield down a bit...now no rattling noise.
No rattling on mine. Was that little rubber disc in place in yours? Sounds like you got it to stop rattling though.
@@sunroomstudios8487 yes…the rubber was placed on the shield and is still there but it doesn’t rest against the vehicle frame…its alignment or degree of bend is off…rendering useless.
If I have a blue wire, will it set aside the same as your yellow wire?
Unfortunately, different switch manufacturers use different color wires, so it can be difficult to tell. The wiring harness should connect to the back of the switch in the same orientation though, so you can line up the wires in the same order and see if your blue corresponds to my yellow. Hope that helps!
