@@PaulVinonaama Don't blame me. I got this from a Finnish journalist who was in the stadium in Munich and watched the whole meet, and who covered sports as part of his job. He told me Vaatainen was in a heat of the 5000, and on the finishing straight looked over at Ian Stewart, laughed at him, and ran away from him. I looked it up: they were in the same heat all right, which Vaatainen won. That was only a few days earlier. This injury/illness explanation is a cover story.

@@Finarphin Come on, they have also accused Virén of blood doping, and he was in good shape during all the heats and finals of 5000m and 10,000m and also for an extended period before and after. Incidentally, Väätäinen also returned to much better shape after the Olympics, so a temporary ailment like lumbago seems much more likely.
@Finarphin Жыл бұрын
@@PaulVinonaama It seems you are making the argument that Vaatainen couldn't have gone into a negative reaction phase from blood doping because Viren was also blood doping and he didn't show any negative effects. That's one way of looking at it. The Finnish journalist who informed me of these matters told me that he knew for a fact -- for all the important Finnish runners active at that time, other than Viren -- that they were using something; I forget whether he said steroids or blood doping, or both. As for Viren, he said that he didn't know, but strongly suspected that he was. So either Viren was or was not using blood doping. If he was, he might have had the same reaction as Vaatainen, or he might not: his timing might have been different, his dosage might have been different, or his personal reaction might have been different. So just because Viren was successful doesn't necessarily mean that Vaatainen wasn't using blood doping. The other possibility is that Viren wasn't using blood doping at all. He always said he wasn't. I saw an X-ray of Lasse Viren's chest once, and the cross-sectional area of his heart was at least, AT LEAST, twice that of a normal person's. It recalls to mind Secretariat. How does a person get such a big heart? Genetics, training, and steroids. But we were talking about Vaatainen. If Lumbago is temporary we remember that the negative reaction phase of blood doping is also temporary.

Eminen said the same thing about the Grammy award, and I do agree with them. Basically they nominate big names for the publicity and getting a big excited audience, but always give the award to someone we never heard of. So it's all about politics and power, and after abusing it for to long with this bullcrap they don't hold any respect in the music community anymore.
