Welcome to RtR!
Hey, I’m Rams! I travel around the U.S. living and working on the road full-time. That means my CAR is my HOUSE! So, taking care of it is more important than ever. Over the years, I’ve developed something of a side-job, being my own mechanic. I’ve always loved working on my vehicle, but I never imagined the crazy adventures I’d get myself into troubleshooting car issues in the middle of nowhere sometimes. Sure changing a tire in town is no biggy, but changing it in an Arctic ice storm is something else!
And so, I created RtR, a place where I can share my experiences and knowledge with you. Hopefully, it’ll keep you out of trouble and save you money.
I talk about the technical ways but also show you my quick and dirty solutions. I highlight what tools you need but also show what you can use when you don’t have those tools. Besides, you can do a lot with a wrench & some wd40.
Thanks for being here!

This was very helpful
Good video! Had to put on my spare tire today and there was some very minor sidewall cracking, still going to drive carefully to the tire shop but this made me feel better about it!
Do you crank it manually or do you use an impact in the socket?
WRONG! GEN2 '15-'17 is definitely the best of the 4 generation.
This is the worst explanation. The only reason you would need to know is if your doing major repairs ansd need to replace timing chain.
Was attempting to help a friend change theirs. Mine on my 4runner were easy AF with just a wrench required. The ones on this model.. holy crap they are like STUCK on there. blah. i wasn't prepared for that. they only bought 3, yet there's 4 total (noticed that while attempting to get Bank 2 sensors off) failed. Couldn't get it to budge at all. :( gonna try to pb blaster and a regular wrench that of appropriate size. what a pain. Thanks for the video, quite helpful. Altho i already found them while under near the explanation of bank 1 and 2 was helpful for next go i try to do it. probably next time they don't drive it. haha. When i tried to do the work the exhaust pipes were still burningly hot.. i got scolded a few times. lesson learned. BUT i know the risk. Just bad choices.
Thank you so much! I don’t know what is wrong with mine but have been searching for this answer as I was leaving for a baby trip
I don't see how it's saving fuel when it takes more fuel to start a motor than to keep it running. Also, emissions aren't measured at startup, so guess what, it doesn't help the environment either. The company Ford F150 gets 12mpg with this system. That's the same as my personal Mega Cab with a Hemi.
Ever since dealers say it is a law to only fill out to manufacture recommendations. my tires wear on outside and inside, and the center has 15k miles left on them. Which is a sign of what??? So, I am tired of that crap. 1-- A new tire 99% of the time comes for a tire manufacturer, not car manufacture. 2-- The door plate is in consideration of the car off the ground, so when they drop it, the weight will raise the pressure to 35. The best way to check would be to measure rib widths. Tires usually have 3 or 4 lines in the tire, and they should match across them all. if the outside inside is smaller than the center, it is under inflated. If the outside and inside is wider than the center, it is over inflated. The second way is to learn your tires of using air. air has moisture, so they are usually 3 to 5 pounds less at rest than driving depending on temp. So ((max psi - rec psi) /2) + rec psi -3psi offset should put you close. example ((51-32)/2)+32-3= 38.5 -- then keep an eye to see if it wears flat and even. if you evac and fill with inert gas, don't use the offset
once I started that math, I added at lest 2 mpg. max should be used only if towing and should be set with weight. and if using an air plan for the offset. it is a big reason that there are so many blowouts. filling to Max and not thinking about temp pressure change. or added weight.
thank you for making this video 🎉
This is really good news about Duralast Gold brake pad life. I just replaced all 4 sets of pads and rotors on my daughter's 2017 Kia Sorento using Duralast Gold parts. The new brakes are very quiet and the vehicle stops on a dime (after bedding them in). Hopefully, these particular Duralast Gold brake pads and rotors have a long life as well. I have done dozens of brake jobs over the years, and I usually use Raybestos brake parts, so this is my first time using Duralast Gold brake parts. The Kia dealership quoted my daughter $1,500 to replace all 4 sets of pads and rotors. No thank you! The cost for the Duralast Gold brake pads and rotors, brake fluid, brake cleaner and silicone brake lube (I already have all of the required tools) was around $450 at Autozone (at a15% discount). $450 and a few hours of my time sure beats the heck out of $1,500, and I love working on cars anyway.😊
But it's ok to put one right?
Good video on changing pads. Just wondering why you did not change the routers as well. New pads, new routers. Seems like common practice these days.
Coyote went direct injection in 2018 in addition to port injection. All prior coyote’s were port injection. Please research before you publish videos. Also I would say second Generation is best as it still ran the front crank mounted oil pump, had simple port fuel injection, made 385 HP in trucks. The 6 speed is also a robust unit with lots of parts availability.
Great video with good explanation and some practical tips !
Thank you. That's exactly what I need to know
is it possible to disable it so we can bleed the brake lines?
Not the same on all trucks
Clear instructions and very helpful, Well done 👍🏻 TY!
Why would you even post that? Might as well have just written down what you said and then posted that. 👎
You're awesome, thank you. My dad's truck has been sitting for 4 years now. I'm ready to get Crimson back on the road thank you for explaining gauges. From Daddys Cajun girl.
Why we need fathers in your life.
Could that truck be any dirtier!?!? What's the point of changing filters?
Just pulled my intake manifold yesterday. The answer is yes you still need a catch can. The valve is very clean for what it is. But the manifold and throttle body flap is coated in oil
I have a 2020 with the 3.3l 4x4. Think itll work?
My F150 Auto Stop wasn't working but started again after replacing my warped front brakes.
Many trucks come with those blocks from the factory. A better indication would be to look for a spacer between the top of the front strut and strut tower, and look to match up the strut's part number. Rear axle spring blocks have been common in stock trucks for decades.
Literally burnt over half the oil in my engine in a week and they’re trying to re test it. Like just fix the shit or I’m gonna do it myself.
Just bought a 08 impala with the 3.9 V6. Misfire 6 is making the Cel blink. Doing a tune up next Thursday. July 4th, 2024!
Strongly disagree. 3rd Gen is the worst.
Same here. Bulbs are good. I remove bulb then put back in. It works. A week later arrow blinking fast but bulb not flashing. Got to be fuse or something else. Electrical? I’ll check fuses..
rear pads require putting the electronic parking brake into maintenance mode before doing a brake job on the rear....a whole different procedure.this is front brakes only. Be sure if you want to do the rear pads...to put the truck into maintenance mode..this is for trucks with a pushbutton-electronic parking brake.
My F150 Platinum. Driver side, COUNTER CLOCKWISE. Passenger side, CLOCKWISE.
You should say: Push the gas & brake at the same time while hitting the ignition will cause the computer not to turn the motor all the way on.
Well that told me nothing… which one is H and which is L!? Which do I put it in? TFN
Thank you! 👍👍
Roll of thumb, anything that makes your check engine light come on should be fixed ASAP, but you can still drive to work. The computer will make the car run rich until the problem is fixed and can eventually cause your cat to clog, so don't dally. Now if your check engine light is FLASHING, DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR. That means it's having an active missfire in
What about the intake manifold.. that is still taking in oil
Google: Versus and verses sound alike but are different words. Versus means “against” and is often seen abbreviated as vs. and v. Verses is the plural of verse, meaning “a part of a poem, song, or chapter of the Bible.”
Video cut off bruh bruh
Yeeeah no. I strongly disagree. All I needed was a pair of ramps ($50), and it only took me about 30 minutes to drain it myself. I’d rather take the time to put in the labor myself rather than someone price gouging me.
Yeah, how to change them though??
Yeah ? What year?
I have 2018. With an extended catch can, which it fill up twice between oil changes. Uses 5 quarts of oil in between oil changes. Had the tsb done for oil consumption. Didn't change anything. I'm gonna run it till it goes. Plenty of power, happy with it. Other than the oil burner part. Stay away from this generation. Ford is not replacing my engine due to its "age" and miles. 123,854 on it. And they say it's " normal" to use that much oil😅
I have a '18 f150 with the coyote. I change the oil every 3,000 to 4,000 miles, and usually burn about a quart of oil between changes...
The map sensor isn't inside the intake it's all the way in the back along the heat wall and all the way down. Physically you have to remove the intake just to even see it and sticking a mirror doesn't help.
So you have to remove the intake to swap it out ?
Walmart (slime )
Stupid invention! There is nothing worse than getting a flat while driving on a long trip and on the interstate and then having this excuse for a tire handicap you the rest of the day. 🙄 If you have ever tried to find a trusted tire shop in a city and state that you do not live in, then you know exactly what i am talking about. You might as well buy a regular size 🛞 and put it in your trunk. Who cares about a little extra space lost. And weight? There is no way anyone can tell me a donut (like having three wheels instead of four) is worth it. The donut will make s nice tire swing for the kids. Shalom
that is just patching the problem... and not a fix. Just stick with the TSB and replace the door check arm. The good news, the same part fits left or right side...and is universal.
Cool Thank You! It has not affected fuel consumption. On freeway not a problem runs smooth and fast over 80 mph. Now low rpm at a stop, specially coming from high rpm on freeway to street then a stop light. It stalls, and vibrates stutters til it catches on. Mechanic can't find the issue. I don't know what to do. Changed all spark plugs, 2 bad coils, 1 bad injector, air filter, pump+filter good, changed oxygen sensor even compression tested fine. I would appreciate input Thank you
Okay I'm having that same problem with my tire but I went and got all brand new tires and it still keep doing the same thing so what could it be they said they changed the valve stem
