    Best horror film I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot. Before he goes into teleporter he had already successfully teleported another baboon hence the alcohol influenced decision to teleport plus worried that Ronnie is still seeing stathis by leaving suddenly.

    1. Fury Road 2. Road Warrior (both this and Fury Road are genuinely thrilling to watch due to the evidently dangerous stunts on display) 3. Furiosa (better story than Road Warrior and Fury Road but the action scenes already haven't aged as well, looks like they were inside a sound stage which sadly isn't thrilling to watch). 4. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is actually my personal favourite film of all these but not my favourite Mad Max film in the sense that it feels like a completely seperate fantasy film but the thunderdome scene, final chase scene and Max portrayed at his most heroic are all standouts for me.

    Right, since it's as good or better than Fury Road, I definitely need to see it, and on the big screen, having absolutely loved Fury Road, back in, gosh was it really 2015?? That's scary.

    The more time I’ve had to think I definitely prefer it to Fury Road! I know I was thinking that.. time goes too fast 😩 Furiosa isn’t doing well financially I’m wondering if it’s because they’ve left it too long since the last!

    In many ways, I found Furiosa to be a superior experience compared to Fury Road. The Mad Max universe feels even more expansive and yet more intimate and layered. Furiosa compelled me to revisit Fury Road. An outstanding prequel.

    This is much more of a phycological, political thriller than a "horror film" Richard Donor himself said "I didnt want to make a horror film" and he didnt, hense why the film is so great, its clever the way you sense evil is going to happen, and yet you don't know what it will be all the time. FINAL DESTINATION Didnt impress me it all felt much more like some horror video game, not in the league of THE OMEN.

  • @nigeldonaldson1647
    @nigeldonaldson16479 күн бұрын

    What are the MAJOR differances between EXORCIST & OMEN In the Exorcist were briefly in Iraq the rest of the time stuck mainly in a child's bed room & from the moments the Priests arrive were stuck there through out. THE OMEN the Directing approach is more...traditional drama, with little symbolism, (& when it's used, it works brilliantly the photographs with the eery shadows etc) the film goes on an international quest to understand & stop what's being foretold (a journey that takes us to England uk, Italy (both Rome & rural Italy to a Monastry and Israel the sense of international mystery & suspence is much stronger & the film dares NOT to have a happy ending cop out

  • @nigeldonaldson1647
    @nigeldonaldson164710 күн бұрын

    THE EXORCIST done in the style of a documentry/diary I felt was far too arty for a horror type film, with too much symbolism like in an art house film, best for being atmospheric, & obviously frightening for ground breaking for it's effects at that time, it had the pond to itself

  • @jackpetriereviews
    @jackpetriereviews7 күн бұрын

    That’s interesting you say that, I enjoyed it I felt like it had a more sinister feel to it than The Omen which I liked. I do see what you’re saying but I found I got more into the story of the characters in the Exorcist

  • @nigeldonaldson1647
    @nigeldonaldson164710 күн бұрын

    OMEN the awakening, you might not know was originally a made for American tv offering (hense the puny horror set pieces, they had the nerve in the Uk to put this out at the cinema only) DAMIEN 3 basically a persuit film trying to stop an Evil entity before it's too late & that's about all we got, the weak tea ending was especially disappointing - he gets stabbed in the back & falls, no thunder bolts or slow motion dramatic music, as there was in the beginning. OMEN 2 not bad a bit plodding, but again an anti climatic ending that felt VERY much set up for yet another sequel. THE OMEN itself a VERY important film, about the nature of Evil & being marked for death, also a clever & unique film daring for it's time. THE FIRST OMEN I can't comment (i havent seen it & missed the boat like most modern films it got very little publicity, & a limited cinema run.

    Another nice video. I haven't watched that many 2020s horror films, maybe around 30 or so. In fact I've only seen a couple from your list (to be honest the others mostly don't sound much like my cup of tea from what I've heard about them). Nevertheless here's my Top 10 of the 2020s so far goes something like this (I'm counting anything that's labeled 'horror' on IMDB, whether it's a horror comedy, action horror, sci-fi horror etc): 1. Last Night in Soho 2. Old 3. The Black Phone 4. The First Omen 5. Scream 6. Knock at the Cabin 7. Freaky 8. Peninsula 9. A Quiet Place Part II 10. The Pope's Exorcist Just out of the Top 10: Godzilla Minus One, Meg 2: The Trench, Scream VI

  • @jackpetriereviews

    Good list! Last night in Soho was just outside of mine I debated whether to add it in. I haven’t actually ever seen Old, but I should watch it as I’m a fan of Shyamalan despite all the bad films he’s done. From the films you’ve listed liking I would still suggest you watch Barbarian in particular as that’s quite a bit different to the others

    I haven't seen them in quite a while (aside from the new prequel), but I feel like I would rank them roughly the same as you did, though I am in general less critical than you seem to be and overall enjoy most of them to some degree. I am pleasantly surprised to see you rank the remake so highly when many people online seem to dismiss it as one of the worst things ever produced. For my money it's a very solid remake, well shot with a great cast, just perfectly solid. I believe one of the main reasons fot it being made was to take advantage of the 6 June 2006 release date (6-6-6). Regarding the prequel, I find your comment regarding the ending interesting, as in creative writing you are often told to keep your endings open, not closed, but it seems you like it the other way around! One piece of work that went unmentioned here is the short-lived 2016 TV series which serves as an alternate sequel to the original, ignoring the film sequels. And there are a couple of sequel novels which continue on from _The Final Conflict_ and are apparently quite entertaining (Damien's son is born "from behind" from the reporter he took "from behind" in the 3rd film). But another short-lived TV series I'd recommend is 2005's clearly _Omen_ influenced _Point Pleasant,_ which was sadly canceled after only 13 episodes, but at least they were aware of this after filming the tenth one so the last three suddenly rush to get to some sort of an ending. In any case enjoyable ranking, and I appreciate that you seem to not spoil too much and go into the plot details of the films you're discussing, a pretty rare quality nowadays. Keep at it!

  • @jackpetriereviews
    @jackpetriereviews11 күн бұрын

    That makes sense re the remake! I didn't realise that. It definitely doesn't deserve the hate, it's a decent film. I just found myself wondering whilst watching it why they decided to make it. I probably sounded too harsh on Omen 2, just the fact it's reviewed so well and I look at a lot of horror (particularly modern horror) that receive huge amounts of criticism so wanted to make my point on that. That's interesting, I mean I would agree with that for the original in which it's left fairly open ended. it just sat with me wrong in the prequel because it's specifically to tell the lead up to the events of the OG and to have that story running parallel didn't feel organic to me and more like an afterthought as a setup for potential sequels. Thank you for your comment!

    If I had to make a list of the greatest scenes from the world of horror, I'd probably put the graveyard scene with the mass dog attack near the top. Right along with the pigs' blood being dumped in Carrie, or the closet scene from Halloween....it's one of those galvanizing moments, absolute perfection. I'm a slasher fan, but if I had to make a list of the best non-slasher horror movies I've seen, The Omen would be awfully close to the top(along with Carrie)...
